Post by: bobjimwilly on January 04, 2014, 09:27:26 pm
I didn't go today - did anyone visit the club shop and see any designs and voting clips for next years shirts?

They'll be up on here on Monday. Just wondered if anyone had seem them in the club shop today?

I did. Home shirts were all very similar to this years, but with minor changes, collars, thinner stripes etc...

away shirts; two were the same colour as this year, two green and black and one violet.

Ditch

The blue away shirts aren't quite the same colour as this season. The hoops are two shades of blue, rather than blue & black.

There is a green & black hoop

A blue shirt with a red & white sash

And an Africa violet & black design.

I did vote. I went for the violet away kit, i think it will make a nice change. For the home kit, i went for the very first one, it had a sort of sash on it. Like i say, i wasn't keen on the home kits to be honest. Whoever drew up the designs wasn't very creative... I also didn't realise the blue shirts weren't the same colour ha

The shirts were designed by the guy at Just Sport.

There was some fan input though, we had a meeting where we discussed what we thought the new kit options should incorporate, and from that they will have written a brief.

We got quite a bit of what we asked for but we didn't have an opportunity to review the designs and ask for amends before they went to the public vote.

I agree with Ditch, I think we could have had more variety in the proposals for the first kit. It'll be interesting to read what people make of them.

The VSC tried to get the club and JustSport to take a similar approach to last season, with the fans designing the actual shirts but with tighter guidelines than last year, such as providing actual templates or design standards the fans would have to adhere to, but I think JustSport were unwilling to take another publicity hit after they cocked up so many times last season; they didn't want to risk having to change the fans designs again I think.

I enjoyed the meeting we had and it was interesting to have a chat with the Just Sport rep, to discover a few of the constraints they have in producing the design and to find out a little of the process involved. For instance I had no idea that they print the shirt design on the fabric before cutting and making them up.

I thought Just Sport were very keen to accommodate us as much as possible.

I appreciate it's interesting to learn about the design process, and of course all companies such as JustSport are put under various constraints, but they could have accommodated the fans a lot more if they let them actually design the shirts. It's nonesense that they can't - all they have to do is provide the templates and whatever rules that are imposed on them by sponsors etc. I do actually like some of the designs, but that is missing the point. They seemed to want to emphasize what isn't possible, rather than what is.

Anyhow, what's done is done. Most fans will probably see this as a positive step by the club and that isn't a bad thing. A few of us just feel it's a bit of a backwards step from last season, that's all.

Shaun made it absolutely clear to us from the outset that the club didn't want individuals to be able to put their name to the design and sited some problem in the past. The Just Sport guy seemed open to the idea of us giving him specifications, it should have a red collar etc. We decided on this occasion it was better though to give them a more open brief.

Design by committee rarely produces great work so by leaving flexibility in the brief I hoped the designer could give it something extra. In the event I think they have done a reasonable job.

Personally I would love the opportunity to design a kit outright, it'd be cool as...
