I was fortunate enough to be at Wembley in 1968 when Man U beat Benfica 4-1 to win what was then the European Cup. The one incident that has stuck with me after all these years was when Eusebio had a one-one with Stepney, the Man U 'keeper, late on in the game. Stepney made a terrific save. Eusebio's reaction? He applauded the 'keeper! A truly magnificent gesture.

I was 10 then, whether I saw it then or I've seen it since, I don't know but I definitely remember it

A class act from a golden era.

How very true! Now, how many of today's top players are worthy of such a gesture? Answers, please, on the back of a stamp!

A superstar. As a man and as a player. He and Bobbie Charlton were almost in love with each other after that semi in 1966. A totally fantabulous player and gentleman.

Actually, your comment above Mark has really hit the spot. Just 3 of he names from 1966: Eusebio, Franz Beckenbauer and Bobby Moore. Ye Gods.... And that is to ignore Bobby Charlton and Ray Wilson. And was it 4 or 8 years later that we first saw Cruyff, Neeskens and other assorted Dutch genii as well?

Eusebio was one of the all time greatest.
