Anybody seen it off here or will own up to it.
It's doing a stint away from that there London and now at Bradford followed by Notingham. It's actually on (last night) when we play the scabs.
Am I a cultured chap by going or a camp cockle. I can't work it out, although I certainly don't like tail.
Never been to the Ballet or Opera in my life and never thought I would

I do like the cultured eclectic mix of topics on this part of the site. Such a welcome change from the menopausal bitching after a losing game.
I had never been to the ballet but when working in Budapest i was persuaded to see Gizelle.
Tickets were really cheap and the setting was the State Opera House. At first all i could think about was a pint at half time, but found myself strangely drawn into a world of men with bulges wearing tights.
However i realised i wasnt starting to bat for the other side when the chorus of spurned virgins did their party piece and i nearly shot my load.

I will unilaterally appoint you as VSA Cultural Attache for that riveting insight

I've been to watch the ballet. It wasn't bad. Quite impressive stuff at times.

Is ballet a bit like Cirque du Soleil? I hope it is.
-
These days you can get cheap tickets more easily for Coventry Garden than Arsenal.
I've never watched ballet but I have seen a bit of Puccini, that was pretty good. I find I listen to classical music more often too, It must be a sign I'm getting on.
-
I don't get the poncing around in tights bit, but I don't mind listening to some of the music...

Whenever I think of ballet, I always think of this:

"Strewth, there's a bloke down there with no strides on!"

I remember going to see Swan Lake at the Gaumont years ago, I remember falling asleep for the third act and not knowing what the hell was going on. I should have read the programme to understand the story which would have helped. I also remember being surprised at the banging and squeaking noises of the dancers as they danced across the stage, I suppose I was trying to be 'cultured', hasn't worked though haha.
-
You wouldn't catch me going to watch Swan Lake. Ballet is for toffs pretending they are more cultured than the common man.
-
My wife and daughter are as "common" as the next man/woman but they have enjoyed going to the ballet. Speaking of common and putting it into context they also like Courtney Love who they will be seeing in May. One extreme to the other one might say!
-
I don't think there's anything elitist about enjoying the arts and would really like to see a live ballet at some point. I quite enjoy chilling on the sofa with one on the tv at Christmas and live performances are always much more engaging than the idiot box.

Ballet's a bit like pole dancing, but without the pole.

I used to have the game. that was good too. Did they have the diver and springboard in the play?

Priceless comedy gold.
In all my years on this forum I have never read a thread that has had me crying with laughter as much as this one.
Thanks guys.......great start to the weekend 🙊

Well luvvies, I went to see it.
I'm sure you lot don't need telling, but it was very Matthew Bourne. Modernised Bohemia, pomp, comedy, melancholy, love in all expressions at its best and the lead girl had a great set of knockers. I was expecting 'fried eggs' with their builds, but they (the blonde siren) were wobbling around too much, even form the back.
Alhambra Theatre
Lovely setting. It was like St James Park at the back of that stand. Don't get on the upper tier though, it's only fit for Warwick Davis types
The Audience
Very surprised. Packed solid and all shapes and sizes, ages. All dressed like you and I and not a smell of Upper Class types. I took a knob of butter for the interval just incase I had to go to the fella's room, for safety reasons, for ease of things reasons etc etc. Have to say there were no fruity types there.
The Music
Tchaikovsky at his very best. Some of the music you will know and go 'Ahhhh I know this' ie Dance of the Little Swans and Dance with the Goblets as well as the obvious signature tune to Swan Lake.
The Tale
It didn't help as I should have researched it before hand. I know a tad re the tale, but as this was modernised it would have been better to read a quick overview.
The Ballet
Modernised and very very good, from the traditional ballet stuff to the modern night club dance scene (that's my favourite bit in the Sw**k Bar). None of that large knacker pouch stuff neither, just normal kit. I more than likely had the biggest scrotum in there in fairness.
In Summary
For 20 sheets it was money well spent, a real surprising eye-opener for me, and I would most definitely go again, infact I will make a point of watching this again, if on tour or back at that there London.

Sitting in the audience for Swan Lake will be noisier and have a better atmosphere than the Keepmoat.

Now this is what I call ballet!
