This may be a daft question but here goes.
I have just moved into a new house and there is a combi boiler fitted. Model Potterton Apollo 30.
I just wondered if anyone knows the recommended settings for energy efficiency on your boiler. I am wanting to keep the house between 18-21 degrees to of course not cost me a fortune.
The heating temp control is between 25 and 80 and the water is between 40 and 60.
Any help be much appreciated.

Put the boiler stat on 80 as this will heat the rooms up quicker and then the room stat will turn the boiler off. I'd put the room stat on 21.5 but obviously you can have it hotter or colder depending on how hard you are. I'm quite hard so 21.5 may be a bit low for you.
The lower the setting on the room stat the less you spend on gas and the quicker the boiler is turned off. The temperature on the hot water is a bit more difficult. I'd go for 60 as I like a hot bath. Less than this will be more energy efficient but not massively so. The vast bulk of your gas bill will be the central heating. For the little you'd save by having it lower than 60 I wouldn't bother. The only other thing to consider with the settings I'm recommending is that if you have small children there could be a risk of scalding as the water will be very hot and so will the radiators.

I'll have you know you have to be quite hard to be able to take a hot bath! The other advantage to cranking the boiler up to max on the hot water is that the bath will fill up quicker as well as you won't need as much cold water adding to the mix.

What you need is a wood burner, no need to put the heating on as much.
