Title: Yorkshire CCC
Post by: GM-MarkB on July 22, 2014, 07:33:19 pm
Back to the top of the table today after polishing off Middlesex on day 4....now they don't have another LV Championship match until Aug 15th !!

I hope they don't lose momentum...penulitmate Championship match is against Notts at Trent Bridge...could be title decider...might have to take a trip if i'm not working.

And all this without their (arguably) best 3 players

Brilliant win today in the Roses match, coupled with Notts losing todat means Yorkshire go into next weeks game at Trent Bridge with a 26 point lead in the Championship.

Definitely going next Friday work permmitting...if the game goes that far !

Top banana, gale is banned for the last 2 games though which throws a bit of a spanner in the works, he is a terrific captain.

Fantastic performance ... and although it would (of) have been great to win the CC last year - heigh ho who gives a Donald Duck !

I will be at TB Friday - perhaps we can meet up ? More likely I will make it Thursday though for reasons I don't want to elaborate on here !

Its a bit alien but ... come on you Whites Grrrrrrr

I'm going on Thursday. What is Hooters?

My mate once got me a Calendar from the Hooters in Dallas near to where he was working. He'd gotten some of the Waitresses to sign it for me. Needless to say, the then Missus never got to look at it....

Anyway...great start today. Should be posting at least 450 tomorrow to put the pressure on Notts

Bugger...Ballance just gone for 99...that 450 is looking a little distant at the moment

In Rashid we trust!

450 almost there, would have liked a few more than 500 really as Notts have very capable batsmen. Having said that Rashid will love the turn the wicket is giving. So if 450 is to be it, lets go at 'em.

Well, as near as Damn it is to swearing that's 500, from this position Notts cannot win, and that does away with their title hopes.
Warwickshire look set for a win, so they will be the only team capable of catching Yorkshire, if Yorkshire fail to press on and win. And that is dependant on Warwicks beating Durham and Yorks only getting few Bonus points against Somerset in their last games.

I think there's enough cricket for you to be "in at the kill."

As a Warwickshire member I take my hat off to Yorkshire. Worthy winners of the Championship. A Yorkshire victory increases our chances of finishing 2nd.

5 Down 5 to go...can I justify the expense (relatively small that it is) of going tomorrow ??

Let's see how I wake up lol

All over, 5 wickets this morning, County Champions with one match to play
Title: Re: Yorkshire CCC

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ended up not going, but I couldn't be happier. All over in 65 minutes

What a fantastic performance, doing the business when it was needed. Notts never had a chance from the off. I was questioning Gillespie's tactics during day 2 but it was spot on. The batsmen did the graft on the first 2 days, but Sidebottom & Brooks must be the best new ball partnership in the country. Throw in Rashid who looks a shoe in for the Sri Lanka trip and bob's your Uncle

Champions !!

And did I read somewhere that 10 of the 11 came through the Academy? If true, that's incredible.

Ballance and Brooks didn't come through the academy, but there is a large majority of the squad that did, they reckon the acadamy is teeming with outstanding talent

The piece regarding the above was about the players on the field TODAY. Ballance was not on the field, his place was taken by Richard Pyrah, so its true to say 10 of the 11 came through from achademy.

Will Rhodes is the England under 19 captain and hasnt got in yet. The spinner Fisher is going to be some talent as well.

Yorkshire is great....lets go for independence!

It is teaming with talented Batsmen, unfortunately it's thin on the ground when it comes to bowlers with potential talent to make it at county level which is a crying shame.
I also expect to see Adam Lyth opening the batting for England in the very near future, i know he's on the verge now with the England selectors.

Technically Ballance DID come through the academy - we signed him on academy terms as an 18 year old. Of course as a Zimbabwe- born, Harrow-educated man who we poached from Derbyshire Seconds I'm not sure we can really claim him as one of our own!

Fantastic achievement yesterday, and to win it in that style is great. Lyth must be a definite for the next test.
