I went to watch Orlando Magic a couple of years back just for something to do one evening while I was over there. Didn't really enjoy it, found it pretty boring really, the best part about it was watching the stuff people did when the crowd camera was on them and the mascots arsing about. I think the fact that they score on 95% of attacks just makes it seem a bit pointless. It'd be like football matches ending 80-75, the magic of scoring a goal is lost because it happens so often.

I watched magic a few years ago, I really enjoyed it as a one off.
It lasted 4hours and there's a lot of games in a season so I wouldn't fancy following a team. Although most American sports are only 15minutes a quarter but with time outs and stuff they roll into hours

Used to go and watch the Panthers play at Adwick back in the day when they were at the top of their game and before morphing into the Sheffield whatever there called.
See in the Free Press that the Danum Eagles are starting to make a name for themselves and are looking for a bigger place to play in.
Would be good to have a top team again in Donny

If I had £1 for every time someone said to me "you should play basketball" I would be a rich man. I don't really like it, much prefer NFL from that side of the pond.

Me too ... used to go regularly
Looked up the history of Doncaster / Wilson / John Carr Panthers and was disappointed to see they were not as successful as I seem to remember
(Probably like that Old Guys Rule T Shirt which has " the older I get the better I was")

I used to play for the Panthers women's team. We sometimes did the warm up game to the men's at Adwick.
Great times. There were some great players in that era around 1977.

Is the Adwick venue the big place in Woodlands Park and were there any other "venues" used as I seem to recall watching elsewhere ?
Donny sure did have some great Players at the time and I always watched in awe at the athleticism they showed and all Basketball Players seem to have

Always loved basketball growing up but gradually lost interest once I could no longer play. Always enjoyed watching the Panthers, at a time that was the height of the basketball 'craze' in the eighties when Channel 4 had its dedicated coverage.
Ian Day from the Panthers (and England) was my hero and I was lucky enough to have him coach me a few times. Then I put my back out in a trial for the County, wasn't right for 2 years and couldn't get back into the game at College because of the quality of international players in the squad.
I'm pleased to say that my son is now getting into playing the game, so my interest is being rekindled

nicked from Wikepedia:
During their 12 years in the NBL the Panthers (Men), playing as Team Ziebart, won the NBL and National Cup in season 1978-79, and were National Cup finalists playing as John Carr Panthers, for the next two seasons. They represented England Basketball (EB) in the ' Jones Cup' International Tournament in Taiwan (1980), participated in the European Cup Winners Cup (1979-80 and 1980-81), made two tours of the mid-west USA (1981 and 1982), organised and participated in the South Yorkshire International Tournament (1976-84), played in an International Tournament in Berlin, Germany (1984) and various other tournaments throughout the UK and Ireland.
The Panthers also ran a successful Junior team programme, winning the National Cup in 1972 and 1975 and were Finalists on two other occasions.

Morris Wordsworth was the coach and one of my tutors at college in the late 70's, he was always selling tickets and panthers related stuff. He still works in teaching and must be in his 70's.

I used to go watch them at Adwick too...used to sit with Pete Jacques and the rest of his crew...always a laugh on a Sunday afternoon...Pete is sadly no longer with us

The Adwick venue was at the Sports Centre. Can't remember the road but guess it's probably a couple of hundred metres past the roundabout near where the park and ride is.
All matches were played there during my time.

There's no basketball facilities at the keepmoat though Brendan?

I went to a basketball game in Sofia, Bulgaria where the sport is surprisingly popular. Levski is a 'club Sofia' type institution with several sports including a top football club. It was a nice event as the previous weekend we had been involved in a full scale riot at the football stadium whereas at the basketball all was peaceful and good natured, with cheerleaders etc
