Title: Save our clu
Post by: Hitchin Exile on November 29, 2014, 11:23:16 am
As is the finacial power of Tescos they are wanting to build a new store on the site of Hitchin FC.
The site is common land so next Saturday there will be a protest march through the town headed up by Guillem Ballagra if anyone  is in the area please attend.

Additional info on the situation here:

http://savehtfc.wordpress.com/

Seems the unelected Cow Commoners have agreed to sell the land to Tesco without consulting the club.

Easy mistake to make - you're confusing Tesco with Bruce Springsteen there.  We've all done it

Having grown up in Letchworth, my Dad took me to Top Field most Saturdays. Will be a sad day if/when this goes ahead. North Herts District Council certainly aren't fans of local football. Baldock, Letchworth and now Hitchin clubs getting absolutely no favours from them....

The trouble is that retailers now have too much power and money.
They can put pressure on councils legally exploiting every loophole plus a lot of consumers want cheap goods at whatever cost to the local infrastructure.
Who would rather trail round a retail park than a thriving town centre?

It's another reason why football, despite the wealth at the top, is slowly dying on its feet. If I had the commitment, I'd make a list of all the professional and semi professional clubs that have disappeared this last 10 years - and the reason why. I suspect it would make interesting reading.

Bet the FA would never countenance making such a list!

Really appreciate the responses on here.
Am hearing that some Arsenal and Spurs fans are putting different aside and are attending.
Rumour is also a former DRFC legend Rufus Brevett who managers the club who are Hitchins main rivals may attend.
Anyway I will be there with DRFC flag proudly being shown and both me and my son will have colours proudly on show. FANS UNITED :rtid:
