On Monday morning I shall be having surgery. I've had increasing amounts of pain in my leg since the beginning of November and two stays in hospital. I've now been diagnosed with Osteomyelitis, a serious infection of the femur (aka thigh bone.) They treat it by literally flushing the infection out of the bone and then by a long course of antibiotics.
So I will be out of action for quite some time, though I hope I'll be able to get to a few games before the end of the season. I'll keep you updated on progress.
-
Best of luck with it John.
-
All the best TRB, wishing you a speedy recovery.
-
Oh dear sounds horrendous, all the best to you TRB and hopefully it wont stop you posting - just kicking things.
-
Good luck TRB.
-
Thank you for your kind replies. Hopefully later next week I'll be able to let you know how things are going.
It has been most painful and frustrating. The only upside is that it meant I missed last Tuesday's game!

Do you think you could get match fit quicker than Steve Brooker or Martin Woods ever did? :)
-
Good Luck I hope everything goes well for you
-
Hope all goes well TRB.
-
All the very best from me as well John
-
All the best from the other enclave of Rovers support in Solihull.
-
Hi John
Good luck. I hope you come out as well as I seem to be doing right now. A scary time. I've been lucky. I hope you are.

-
Good luck. Hope all goes well and you make a speedy recovery.
-
Best of luck, John. Hope the op is a complete success.
:scarf:
-
Still here after a long day in theatre. More operations to follow. It's going to be a long one.
-
Sounds like you have enough frustration and pain to deal with without rushing back for more at the Keepmoat.
Best of luck and fingers crossed all goes well
-
Good luck with the recovery TRB.
-
Good luck John. If you need owt I'm only in Cov
-
Massive setback last night. Still a bit too raw to give details. Now see what today brings.
-
Doesn't sound good - hope it's not too serious and that you're soon on the road to recovery, John.
-
I echo that - good luck John :that:
-
Yes, me too, and like coventryrover i am only a few minutes away.

Nurse punch your knackers when you tried groping her, did she?
EDIT
Apologies cocker. I usually find a bit of puerile humour helps when I'm at my lowest ebb. Good luck for getting through this.
-
I'm not sure if I am allowed to write this - but I'm going to. I have swapped several texts with John today. He is not going to be out of hospital for a while. Certainly not before Christmas and it could be some while after that. From what I have heard I suspect we will all be lucky if we see John at another Rovers match this season.
It's not my business to give any details, but I hope you will all continue to pause from time to time to think of John. He has been a friend of the Rovers and plenty of its supporters for a very long time indeed. And right now he needs our friendship.
John: if you disapprove of this post, I am sorry. I will certainly delete it and apologise profusely if you wish me to.
Regards
BobG

Bob. No problem. All fine by me. I sent a longer post but managed to lose it. Hope to be back at Rovers before the end of the season.
-
Bloody hell John. You take as long as you need and get yourself right.
On the bright side, you've picked the right season...
-

The Rovers will still be here when you are well enough, you need to concentrate on yourself at the moment, theres always this forum and Rovers player (when it works) so you can have your fix
-
Thanks BST. I know your sense of humour and it isn't too far from my own if I'm honest. I'm still quite glad I read your post about the nurse this morning and not yesterday. My diseased thigh bone broke while I was lying in bed. Apparently it didn't come as a shock to the doctors but it did to me!
Fortunately in the overall scheme of things it hasn't set me back too far and I'm comfortable now.
-
Dear God TRB, that sounds horrific.
Take your time and get yourself back to fighting fitness.
-
I'll be following events at Swindon tomorrow. The forum is thoroughly depressing at the moment though!
Great result for the Youth Team last night. Now that cheered me up.
-
TRB, thoughts and best wishes to you for a speedy recovery, from across the pond.
-
TRB
Aluminium thigh-bones. Its the future! ;)
Rob
-
Sounds tough John - and once again all the very very best wishes from me. You are a real kindred spirit for me, and I am with you in thought. Let's hope Rovers can bring some cheer.
-
TRB
Aluminium thigh-bones. Its the future! ;)
Rob
Funny you should say that Rob, because the plan is for me to have a large metal rod to hold what's left of my thigh bone together. Before that they have to get rid of the infection in my leg and system generally.
-
Get well soon TRB
-
Hope this result cheered you up
COYR

It certainly did.

I assume you will be renaming yourself "The Terminator" on here?
;)

I think I'll keep The Red Baron as a handle. Looks like more surgery tomorrow. Wish me luck!
-
As expected, I'll be here for Christmas and the foreseeable future. There's talk about sending me to the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. At least that isn't too far from home.
I got to theatre yesterday but only to reapply the drainage pump to my leg.
Anyway, may I wish a very Merry Christmas to all fellow Rovers. Here's to that long awaited home win on Boxing Day.
-
Get your boots ready TRB. You'll still be quicker than young Curtis.
-
Happy Christmas - as far as it can be - John. I hope things improve.
Sadly, someone else is in difficulty too now. Sarah Watts - remember her? Chair of the Seagulls Supporters Club and a downright smashing lady. She's really not well at all and the prognosis is dire. I'm about to write to her so I'll pass on your best wishes as I doubt you'll be in any position to do so yourself. I'm talking with Liz Costa and Jan Merritt about it - but it doesn't look as if there's anything much anyone can do. b*llocks. An era is coming to an end here John.

Its only words but from one John to another - keep strong and get well soon as possible
I will raise my cheers an extra 3 decibels if (sorry WHEN) we score tomorrow - and again as we clinch our first "homer" of the Season. So you will be represented tomorrow while you concentrate on YOU !
All the best JT
-
Thanks DW. Will be trying my best to keep in touch with events this afternoon.

Thanks DW. Will be trying my best to keep in touch with events this afternoon.
Keep your chin up if you can .... I would be hopeless at it.
I have been warming my voice box up to keep my promise of the extra decibels on your behalf
Surely today IS the day we get three points !
-
My best wishes to you RB for a rapid and complete recovery, and just to help it along, I'm confident that today is our day for a rare 3 home points and a performance to match. I hope you can listen in.
-
A quick update. I had several hours of surgery on Saturday and now no longer have the drainage but have acquired a large metal frame on the outside of my thigh. This is to hold what's left of the bone in place. The infected bone has been removed.
Today the physios got me to stand on a zimmer. I managed this and although I expected it to be painful it wasn't but I had the oddest sensation in my leg. Apparently my right leg is now shorter than my left so that is something I will have to get used to - at least unless it is corrected by a future operation, which I am expecting.
Basically I'm going to be here for some time to come!
-
All the best .... looks like I will be doing the extra cheering on your behalf for as long as it takes - BUT let me say it is no inconvenience when measured against your situation
Will buy you a beer in BVB as well as soon as poss I hope.
-
Bless you, it sounds like you have a long haul ahead of you. Hope it isn't as long as it sounds and that you are back home as soon as possible.
-
Good luck with the ongoing works John.
I'll get you a beer too. Get a few more pledges in and we'll get you legless.
-
Christ! After all John's been through too.....
Lol!!
Good luck John.
Bob
-
All the best TRB hope all goes as well as it can do, I've had more than my fair share of surgery this year (spinal)
-
All the very best from me too John
Cheers
Brian

Still in hospital. Infection seems to be under control but I'm very restricted in terms of how much I can move. I'm able to get out bed and move to the chair but not much further. I'm sure that will come but it is a long haul.
At least I'm not in much pain now, which is a big positive.
-
Bless your heart. :( Glad the pain has eased at least. xx
-
Good luck TRB.
Better a long road to recovery than a short cul-de-sac. :)
At least when you get back we might be even more consistent with the way we are improving. :scarf:
-
Latest news. I am still in hospital but slowly getting more mobile. I am walking with a Zimmer and can manage about 20 steps. Still on antibiotics and will be for 2-3 months. I expect to be in hospital for at least another month and even then I won't be fully mobile. Still hope to be back at the Moat in April.
-
At least you are getting there albeit slowly, All the best for a speedy recovery
-
John,
See you at Solihull station when we catch the train down to Wembley for the play offs
-
Hang in there John - see you at the playoffs then :scarf:
-
I'm targeting the Good Friday game v Bradford. A lot will depend on how soon I can drive. Would be good if we do make the play offs.
-
Barring any mishaps I will be going home next week. I am still walking with a frame and will have to live on the ground floor. But I will be home.
The physios will be coming to see me and hope to have me on crutches and able to tackle the stairs within 2-3 weeks of me going home. Next stop The Moat!
-
Bet you can't wait keep at it you'll get there, Physioterrorists I've had more than my fair share of them!
-
Some good, a lot indifferent, I'll bet. My experience of Physios is very mixed. I still have some private health insurance so I'm looking at getting additional physio once I have the discharge date confirmed. My money is on Wednesday for going home.
-
Good news RB, I bet you're excited now!
-

I know a good private practice all mine has been private via Bupa 2 lots of spinal surgery numerous steroid injections etc etc cost Bupa a fortune I have! just going to send you a pm
-
Still in hospital. On the day I was to be discharged I had a very severe stomach upset. I suspect this was due to a change of antibiotics.
I'm back on my old antibiotics and am feeling better now. Not sure when I will be able to go home but probably within about a week. At least the leg continues to heal.
-
Good news, Baroni. I expect you will be climbing the walls by now. Get well soon, pal.
-
Funny that I gave this thread the title MONDAY as it seems as though I shall finally get home next Monday. I came in to hospital on a Monday as well, 24th November, although I did manage to escape for about a week in early December!
There's still a long way to go and I can only manage to walk short distances with a Zimmer frame. The next step is to get onto crutches. That will have to wait till I am home.
Still hope to get back to a game before the season ends, but realistically Copps' Testimonial may be my next game.
-
Never mind realistically, your goal is a game before the end of the season :) go for it and I'm glad things are moving forward for you, get well soon!
-
Wonder if you could like ;'rentaroom' in the KM? I heard tjhey got plenty of spare ones. Save you having to worry about the travel. They might just throw a box in with it even.....
Good luck John! My trauma is now stable - but crap and will remain so for 2 or 3 months yet,
Bob
