The finest blues guitarist ever and inspiration to many other great guitarists, B B King haspassed away RIP
-
Thanks for the compliment mate, although the news of my death is somewhat exaggerated.
-
I always thought his burgers were better than ronalds😋

Boom Boom
EDIT:
Nope. That were John Lee Hooker.

I had the pleasure of seeing BB King in concert, I guess 20 years ago. It was at the time when Peter Green was clawing his way back to some semblance of normality and the two played a little on stage (though I'm not sure how much playing Peter Green was actually doing because he had a guitar-playing chaperone who appeared to be doing most of the heavy lifting). Oddly enough, I was also fortunate enough to see John Lee Hooker on stage in Los Angeles mere weeks before he shuffled off to the great jook joint in the sky.
Both legends and musical greats. Sadly, as the last of these guys die off, it's looking more and more likely that a musical genre is going to be no more. It will almost certainly be gone before I draw my last breath.

Will it chuffs. You don't know what you're talking about. Haven't you heard of Joe Bonamassa? He's taken the blues a whole new level. He's far better than any of the old guard.
-
Bonamassa? I've seen him twice now and possess most of his material but to suggest he's taken the blues to another level is complete poppycock. He's a decent blues guitarist but hasn't got the soul, the voice or the real passion like the old guard.
-
I was lucky enough to see BB King with another great guitarist Gary Moore, I thought Gary Moore was awesome, but he wasn't fit to carry BB Kings plectrum
-
Bonamassa doesn't do a damn thing for me. I am well aware of a lot (if not all) of the new(er) blues guys and gals, and very few pass muster (compared to the old greats) and most take the music away from what I would consider to be blues. Which is why I said what I said.

BB King deserves his place in history as a pioneer. He is certainly a legend and all guitarists have a lot to thank him for.
However he was not fit to lace Bonammasa's boots. Technically, melodically and vocally Bonammasa is as good as it gets. The stuff BB used to play could be learned by a beginner guitarist in a couple of weeks. Try learning some of Bonammasa's stuff and you'll still be at it in 2 years (not me though).
I'm all for bigging up the original artists but it is a fact that the new generation are much better and this will ensure the blues will never die.
Doncaster even has it's own fine blues guitarist - Mick Simpson. He is also much better than BB King.

Get over it.

Paul Lamb and Chad Strenz ( Google 'em) are playing the Roots music club at the Ukrainian centre on Beckett road Wheatley this Friday and they're making it a B.B King special so if any of you fancy it get yourself down . 8 pm start
-
Thanks for once again sharing your thoughts on this matter, Mick.
I am unaware of the young talent that is Mick Simpson, though I am sure that when the sad day comes and he takes his Fender up into the sky the music world will respond in much the same way as they did when BB King did: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/05/15/bb-king-dead-twitter-tributes-celebs_n_7289500.html (http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/05/15/bb-king-dead-twitter-tributes-celebs_n_7289500.html) ;)

I doubt that very much.
