...and could comment on a specific situation?
Being shafted by my employer and need advice.
Thanks to anyone who might be able to help. :)

I'm not saying I'm an expert, but I did spend a number of years as GMB shop steward in my previous employment, so fire away, if I can help/advise I will

Are you in a union RTID? If you are, talk to them asap!

Bob, do you really think Unions have any significance nowadays?
-
INdeed they are 5 real mixed bag. The unions can be good in some ways but spend half the time looking after the top union brass or making political points. I've seen them sacrifice member jobs to make these points. Not good .
-
There ability to call the shots is severely limited these days, however when it comes to employment law they generally are quite switched on and always have access to people who can advise on complex matters.
It's one area that they can use to provide something of value to there members.

Not in a union I'm afraid.
I was all set to post up my problem to a public forum, but decided against on the off chance that my employers might see it.
I'll PM you what I was going to post there Filo.

You could use an alias RTID if you do decide to post it publicly.
And Savvy: yes. Unions are a fantastic resource of experrtise, knowledge and contacts. Ignore that if you like. It's your loss.

The story is a bit too specific for a public forum. The chances of anyone song it are slim, but it's not a risk I can really afford to take.

I just hope you've worked there for at least 2 years, because you have next to no rights if you haven't. (unless there is racial/sexual discrimination involved). Good luck, but unfortunately the government we currently have want employees to have very little rights. Not fair, but true.

Bob, I have just had my missus recieve a written warning for being taken to the A and E at Doncaster upon the advice of the site management, in a company vehicle and then get disiplined for exceeding the 3% rolling absenteism rule!! Having been a manager at the same firm, I know that discretion could have been applied, but the idiots who portray themselves as "Union Reps" couldn't even get her appeal upheld! And yes I've been a Union Rep myself in the Rail industry myself. the Unions in this day and age are a complete waste of time!!!
RTID75 pm me I may be able to be of assistance!
