Last time I went I stopped at the Temple Bar Hotel! It was pretty cheap and u are right in the centre of the action!! Nice hotel! It wasn't particularly noisy either to say it's right in the centre!

There's lots of very good hotels on O'Connell street. And it's also on the bus route from the airport if you intend to use that.

I found Dublin dull and boring. I wouldn't go again.

It is overrated. Although I would think it's going to be an interesting place to be next weekend when the England supporters are in town. I'm looking forward to it!

Dublin is a great city! Full of culture and full of things to do and places to go! It is however like any city very expensive! I have been their twice and until I went to Edinburgh and Rome over the last 2 years it was my favourite city! Plus if u want a lively night out it is absolutely awesome!!

Had some good nights in Mohill, Roosky, Fenagh, Belturbet and Killishandra in Ireland, and also Enniskillen in Northern Ireland :-)

Hells teeth Filo. Most of those are almost in Northern Ireland. Guessing you followed the Shannon. Get thysen south and West . Mayo, Galway, Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher. Now that's the real Ireland. Ask Donny Dub.
Belmullet, Achill Island, down into Connemara, Inismein, Galway, Cliffs of Moher and Dingle Peninsular. That's real Ireland.

Fished the Shannon system down to Athlone and the Erne system around Enniskillen, and the lakes around Lough Gowna

Get yourself in Lapello's then into Coppers. It's a decent night out, wouldn't want to live there though.

I did some fishing on the River Erne, at Ballyshannon. Not conventional fishing though. There is a Hydro electric station called "Catheleens Falls", built into that is a "Fish way" to enable salmon and such to get upstream /downstream of the plant. There is a holding tank, and , dependent on who was in charge of the plant, many a salmon made its way into my house when I lived there and built Catheleens falls bridge ( 2005 ). Plant can be seen lit up behind bridge .

I was hanging out in the bars catering for the younger ones amongst us. No river dancing in there. Took an Italian Doris from the strip club back to the apartment as well, that's probably why I have fond memories. She will never have been the same again.

Dublin is the finest city in the world. Anyone that can't have a good night out there is severely lacking in charisma and personality.

Take my advice. Get rid of the stiff upper lip and let your hair down for a change. You never know you might enjoy yourself for once.

Avoid Temple Bar, it.s a rip off except Palace Bar at Westmoreland St end, best pint in Dublin and a real traditional proper Dublin pub IMHO.
Try Ballsbridge Hotel, classy hotel and they might do you a deal there.
For genuine trad music go to the scruffy Cobblestone in Smithfield.
Other OK places:-
Odeon and Harcourt Hotel Harcourt St.
Cafe en Seine and Sam's Dawson St.
Italian quarter on the quays.
The Globe Camden St.
Hogans Georges St.
Turks Head Parliament St.
Matt the Thresher and TP Smyths near Stephen's Green.
Market Bar off Georges St.
Toners Baggot Street
Check the internet for hotel offers, they're competing one against another.
There's a tourist office where Peterson's pipe shop was on College Green near Trinity College that will give you all help with tours and places of cultural interest
PM me for any help I might give you.
Good luck!

Christ if "other OK places" is the most enthusiasm you can muster from someone who seemingly lives there I probably wouldn't bother!

He doesn't "Seemingly" live there, he does. And what he states is correct.

Wild Rover - I have no idea where most people on this forum live, I said seemingly as I was going from his name being"Donny Dub" and the fact he knows a great deal about the place. My point was that for what I consider a great place (had 2 very memorable visits) his post isn't exactly positive!

I've been going for Donkeys years, had customers over there so had to do the night scene regularly. Its an OK city (in my opinion), not much more than that.

When you have a night out its not where you are it's who you are with. I've been all over the world but some of the best nights out have been in Donny.

Try the west coast of the Republic of Ireland, Westport, small town in Mayo ,loads of bars ,but no slot arcades or chavy gangs and no litter.

Yes Westport Co Mayo Draytonian is a fine little town but you might not yet have heard of the Greenway, it's a cycle/walking track on disused railway along the Atlantic Coast from Westport to Achil Island, no motor traffic and spectacular scenery and quiet sandy bays all along it.  Family friendly, bicycle hire and B&B everywhere.  I'd recommend it to anyone for a visit.
Good luck!

I'll second that. When Rovers were playing in the South-West a few of us stayed in Worcester for the night out on several occasions. Small town, a few bars, one club but we had a great laugh as we were all great mates together on the pop after a day away with the Rovers. That was before most of us got married and had kids, mind. Different era.

Looks like the Labour Party and GMB union like Dublin. What the hell are they playing at? Why are they having hustings in a foreign country?

Just shows how out of touch these idiots are wasting members money on a jolly.

I've just got back from Westport, I walked about 4 miles on the Greenway, no litter, no dog mess, I'm definitely going back to Westport
