We have just moved to Bessacarr and our cat Woody has gone missing. He is the one in the front of the photo, very friendly tabby cat. He is wearing a black collar with an ID tube and is also microchipped. He has gone wandering before but as we've only just moved here we are concerned he has got lost. Last seen Saturday morning on Thealby Gardens. Please let me know if he is spotted anywhere. Thank you.
-
Will keep a look out for you we have 2 house cats one got out last year tried chasing him for 30 mins gave up as i had to go to work
Got home at 1 and was sat in next doors garden manged to get him back with dreamies lol
-
He's always been an outside cat, did whatever he wanted at our old place. Used to disappear for a couple of days at a time so hoping he is just having a good explore of the new place. Been out on my bike this morning to cover a bit more ground shouting him, but nothing. People must think I'm mad!

It will be out finding wildlife to kill and come back when its blood thirst is satisfied.A responsible owner would have fitted the horrible creature a bell round its neck to warm off innocent birds, wild mice and others.Hopefully its been hit by a car

ouch!
a bit harsh
-
Thanks for your kind words, I won't return the favour by wishing harm on something you love. Nice to know there are some kind and friendly folk around.
-
Disgusting comments Yargo, no need for that.
-
Did you not see The Zoo this weekend. I'd be very worried when it comes back!

Bloody hell, Steve. No need for that. Would you advocate sitting out with an air rifle taking out birds of prey to protect wild mice too? How do you decide which animals deserve to meet the reaper in your new world order?!
-
Can anyone who's got twitter please do me a favour and share this link please? I've not got an account anymore, would take too long getting enough followers for it to be worthwhile! Thanks.

maybe he's trying to find his way home, they can travel big distances, where were you before.
-
We were in Thurcroft near Maltby, so quite a way across railways and motorways, so hope he's not tried to do that!
-
maybe it's worth popping back to have a look, they can find there way home quite easy, usually if the distance is about seven miles.
It's called psi travelling.
-
I've heard of similar instances, Andy. I think there was at least one case in the States where the owners had moved several hundred miles and their cat found his way back to his old home.
A friend of mine has a cat who went AWOL for nearly a fortnight. She was sure he'd been killed but one evening he sauntered in through the cat flap as if nothing had happened. Turned out some geezer had been feeding him, even though he had a collar and didn't look like a stray. So sometimes they do just turn up.
-
As the crow flies it's about 10 miles, crossing the main railway, the A1, the M18 and a couple of rivers. So fair play if he's made it! I might have a look as I drive fairly close by on the way to work. I'm hoping he took refuge somewhere during the big storm on Saturday night and is still somewhere nearby, no sign as yet though.
My mum once had a cat go missing from Retford, it got handed in to a vet in Bolsover 10 years later and they got him home using the microchip.
-
We got our cat back with the use of a Microchip. She just loved them McCain ones and was back in no time after we chucked one in the back garden for bait.
-
Hi Dave, I've put it on twitter and face book for you.. Hope it helps and Woody is home as soon as possible.
As for cats hunting, it's part of natural selection.
-
Thanks very much, I've tried all the groups on Facebook I can think of, going to make some flyers at work tonight and post those through some of the houses close by. There was a huge thunderstorm on Saturday evening, thinking he might have got into someone's shed to shelter and now can't get out. Really hope we do find him, so sad how much his brother misses him, he's really not happy. I feel absolutely terrible, wish I'd kept them in longer but it's done now.
-
One of ours went missing a couple of years ago and was gone for a whole year, then just wandered through the door one day like nothing had happened. She's not disappeared since.
-
Try and think like the cat would, which route would it take back to your old house, follow that route on foot and you might come across him along the way. Get somebody else to take a slightly different route back to your old house doing the same.
Failing that visit the local cats league where someone may have taken him, get all your neighbours to look in sheds and gardens, put posters up all almog the way from your new house to old one.
Advertise it on facebook lots of people have found they're animals that way, put an ad in the shops along the way, visit the cats league places yourself and look, don't take they're word that they haven't got him, phone local vets to see if any injured cats have been brought in, though the chip might negate this advice, something like Balby vets isn't far from Bessacarr for a cat, it might be worth asking.
Has one of your neighbours taken a liking to him, and thinking he hasn't got a home taken him in?.

The bloke has lost his cat, and you take the time and effort to post, just to tell him you hope that it has been hit by a car. You sir, are a mean spirited, 1st class w*****.
"Blood thirst", "innocent birds, wild mice and other"? Grow up FFS!
-
Yargo you're a prick!!! Dave I hope the little fellow returns home safe and well soon

Well I've posted 100 flyers through people's doors, put posters up on lamp posts and been in both local vets. Annoyingly none of the local shops would put them up for me, but hopefully someone will see him! Also going to go back to my old house to see if there has been any sign. Can't say I'm not trying anyway!

Not a nice thought, Dave, but have you had a word with the council about animals killed on the road? My friend did this and was encouraged that they'd had no reports of cats killed by traffic.
Hope he turns up safe and well soon.
-
Poster campaign 2 has begun. Feel free to share this or print it out if you would like to help, I'd really appreciate it. Had a few promising phone calls but still not found him. Thanks.
-
Good luck Dave, I hope that it turns out ok for you.
-
Dave, The South Yorkshire Joint Railway would be his easiest route back to Thurcroft from Bessacarr, it is the line that runs behind Stoops Lane and then routes through Wadworth Bar, then passing west of Tickhill, south of Stainton through Aven Industrial Park, along the south edge of Maltby then passes just west of Laughton before joining the Sheffield to Worksop section just west of Shireoaks. It is a freight only section that served the collieries in the region for many years but is still in use, the traffic on it doesn't travel very quickly in fact a lot of it is single track.
-
fingers crossed for you and Woody. you seem to be doing all the right things. When the future Mrs Longbridge MGRover moved from her flat in Cheltenham to my house in Broadway, 18 miles away, Harriet the cat she brought with her disappeared a few days after arrival.
we thought she was on her way back to Cheltenham, but had actually gone about 200 yards in the opposite direction and we found her a few days later.she had literally got lost.
cats do seem to be able to find the humans who like them, and most of the replies from our leaflet campaign were from cat owners.
when Tintin, another cat disappeared from our current house,we were able to ascertain his direction of travel by plotting sightings and seeing he was going south westerly. I then leafleted in advance of where he was headed, and that did the trick, as a fellow cat owner recognised him and called him indoors and kept him there til we arrived.
-
Thanks everyone, unfortunately we have had no sightings whatsoever, had a few phone calls but they have all been about other tabby cats. I suspect a few of them have been people seeing his brother Buzz who has settled in very well and doesn't wander very far at all. Trying not to give up hope but it's been a long time now, just wish I knew what had happened to him, even if it's bad news.

This is beginning to sound like "The Littlest Hobo"

Any news?
As a catman these sort of posts always put me on edge.
We lived on Bawtry Rd and lost a 4 month old kitten one night. Kids distraught etc. 3 months later, after a heavy night out I was having my traditional 5am wee when I heard a mewing and there she was!
She's obviously been hit by a car but lasted another 18 years, albeit she was a bit gimpy at the back.
Hope there's positive news soon.
-
Nothing as yet, I rang the pet crematorium today where all the cats that have been found on the roads get taken and he's not there, so that's a bonus I guess!
My biggest fear is he has got onto the train line and been hit, no one is going to find him if that's the case so won't ever know. Still, like you say they can go missing for a long time so not giving up hope yet. Just not really sure what more I can do, I've posted 200 flyers through doors, put up over 20 posters over quite a wide area, regular posts on Facebook and other online lost/found websites, walked and biked miles shouting him (people must think I'm mental).
Did have a phone call off an old lady last night asking if we had found him. When I said no she said she was praying for him, which I thought was nice. Bit of divine intervention to get him back would be much appreciated!
-
I wouldn't think a train would be a big threat - the rails vibrate like bugger as a train approaches for some distance - if that doesn't scare a cat away nowt will.
Hope he turns up, but as many have said, it isn't unusual for a cat to stay away for a time.
-
Dave DRFC- Let's hope the little old lady was feeding him some nice steamed fish as she rang and her conscience kicks in at some point!
He's a handsome devil, so if he's friendly, someone will be looking out for him.
-
Have you updated your new address with the microchip people? Just in case?
-
Yeah I have, was the first thing I did when I moved house! Also bought them both collars which they've never had before. Had a phone call yesterday from a woman who was certain she has seen him on her garden a few times, maybe 400 metres from my house, but I've been down there shouting a few times and nothing. Thing is, he's a tabby cat so they aren't exactly rare!
You are right though, he is a good looking chap and also a bit of a flirt so wouldn't surprise me if he's found some old dear to feed him salmon every day. Just wish I knew what had happened to him!
-
I really was hoping you were going to say he had come home. :(
Mind you, as it turns colder he just might decide to venture home if he is on a jaunt somewhere. Cats do like to be warm after all.

I keep seeing a new post and check back and hope the same

Has anybody moved house near you, and he has climbed into a removal van?.
-
Come on Woody, you've had your fun. Get your furry arse home!
-
Any news
-
Nope, we are still a one cat household I'm afraid. Keep getting phone calls every so often but by the time I go to look there's no sign. I've joined loads of lost pets groups on Facebook and it's amazing how many cats just seem to vanish into thin air.
-
We had one go missing for six months, we thought we had looked everywhere, but as you do didn't ask everybody on our street, he was living in an empty houses outhouse on the other side of the street from us, at the top of the street, and the next door had been feeding him all that time.
We couldn't believe it, my advice would be to ask at every single door in your neighbourhood, and if there are empty houses climb over and have a look in the yards, we were too polite and didn't but luckily we got him back.
-
Can't stand cats. We used to get one knocking round our back yard all the time for ages.
I used to shoo it away, shout at it, try and scare it away but it still returned.
Then a friend suggested leaving some cat food laced with diesel.
Bought some cat food bobbed some diesel in and watched from the kitchen window.
True to form the cat appears, steady walk upto the food and gives it a sniff. I watched as it ate it all. Licked the bowl.
I carried on watching but nothing.
Then it started sprinting round the garden, screaming and howling. Then bang drops to the floor.
Apparently hed ran out of fuel

A woman called me last night, said she had been feeding Woody for THREE WEEKS but now hasn't seen him for a week. I'm not happy, god knows why she didn't call me before, she even said she had seen my posters so knew he was missing, her daughters even called him Woody! She said she is going to try and find him (cheers for that) but I don't understand why she didn't just ring me when he was there!! The search goes on...
-
At least you know he's around and you may still get him back?
-
Did you find out where this woman lives? If you did and plot her house on a map along with your current and former residences you have our search area.
When my friend's cat went missing we found out he'd been fed by someone who lived just round the corner. She spoke to him and he claimed to have seen the cat. 24 hours later the cat came home. We think this fellow had been feeding him and keeping him indoors.
Don't be too surprised if Woody turns up soon.
-
Yeah, she lives about 4-600m away from me on a fairly new estate. I've been out shouting him this morning and posting leaflets round the entire new estate so if he is around there hopefully someone will see him. Fingers crossed!

What an absolute bell end!

-
I can imagine how you feel, but at least you now have a trail.
good idea to leaflet again, using this woman's house as the new epicentre??
and its encouraging to know he hadn't wandered far. he'll soon be with you again, fingers crossed..............
-
Woody has been found! A woman who had seen my posts on Facebook found him outside Toby Carvery on Bawtry Road tonight. Unfortunately I was out in town at the time but she has very kindly taken him home and I'm picking him up in the morning. Can't believe it, 5 weeks tomorrow since he went missing and we're getting him back!
-
Great news!!
-
Woo hooo
Get some butter on his paws the next time he goes out.
-
Excellent news, sometimes things do turn out alright in the end.
-
Good news, I think if i was on the run I would hang about the carvery for some scraps
-
Yes! My prayers worked, proof if it was needed that there is a God.
-
Yeeeeee HAAAAAAAAA
Bloody brilliant!!!
Better buy him a nice long rope now!
BobG
-
Thank god for that .. I dare order a chinky tonight now.
-
Great news.
And Mrs DaveDRFC can look forward to getting a nice pair of dangling furry earings for Christmas.
-
Fantastic news. Great to hear that.
-
At least some good news today
-
Oh that is the most wonderful news. I'm so happy for you.. :) :) I'm guessing he is going to be under house arrest for foreseeable future now.
-
I'm on holiday in Spain, soon to head to the airport home .
So you can imagine how we feel, but now me and the Mrs have both got smiles on, cos of this news.
I hope you ground him for a while now!
-
He is under house arrest for now, with occasion supervised garden time! Will be a while before we trust him outside on his own. Very good to have him home, although Buzz doesn't seem to think so!
-
Maybe Buzz has forgot him. A few weeks to a Cat seems a lot longer than it does to a human. To Buzz it might seem like light years since there's been more than one moggie in the family.
-
Fantastic news!
Our cat has been missing some 2 years now, so it's great to hear you've had a happy ending.
-
I lost a moggie once. Years ago now. Can't believe how upsetting it was. Anthropomorphism gone mad tbh. She never came back sadly.
BobG
-
The wife's always been a bit of an anthropomorphist, and I'm strictly of the opinion that an animal is just an animal. Ironically, our cat always strolls straight past our lass and throws its arms around me when it wants attention.
-
There's a good reason for that too BB! Cats don't like being looked at. It's some sort of dom/sub thing. So them that like cats, go cooeee and such like and look at the damn things, always put the cat off. Whereas chaps who don't like cats, ignore the little perishers, don't upset the cat in the slightest so said moggie makes a beeline for the lower leg rubbing post!
BobG
-
Poor cat, thought he had made freedom and now he's been captured again.
-
Just for Woody's fan club, here he is having some supervised outside time...
-
"That's a funny looking dog you've got there, mate." ;)
I too have had to take a cat for walkies. Not easy!
-
Bloody hell Dave! She's the spitting image of my Minnie who went walkabout a few years back now. Where did you get her from? Minnie must have had time by now to get from Gloucestershire to Donny. Can I have my pussy back?
:D:D:D:D
Bob
-
Congrats to all!
The fan club demands a WoodyCam livestream please.

Well Woody is only 4 and also a boy, so unless he discovered time travel and had a sex change along the way I think we can be sure it's not the same cat :)
He is a fine looking chap though, we got him from some flats on the same road as the Sheffield United academy. A woman who lived there saw a stray cat give birth to 4 kittens in a recycling bin so took them in, we were looking for some kittens and found them on Sheffield Forum. Ended up with 2 of the boys, Buzz and Woody, very nearly a third as someone let her down last minute but she found the other boy another home - I think he is called Kenzie now and their sister is called Angel. We still get yearly texts off the woman we got them from on their birthday!
-
Oh that's brill Dave. Actually, the village where is live has a significant population these days of cats whose maternal great, great, great etc grandma was Minnie. She had 2 litters before she disappeared and they were snapped up across the village.
Cheers
Bob
-
Just look at that tail, full of naughtiness. Little rogue. Lol.
-
Just for Woody's fan club, here he is having some supervised outside time...
Is there an address we can send to for a ''Personally pawed letter''?!, or where cat treats can be posted to him?, i'm really happy you got him back, we have took strays in a lot, and once you win their trust, you couldn't get a more loyal animal, some part of them remembers the bad times i'm sure of it.
