Title: Whatever happened to...
Post by: River Don on October 01, 2015, 08:32:29 pm
Sturdy?

Erstwhile Rovers fanatic and the founder of this very forum. I remember he got into videoing sporting events as a business and went a bit rugbyified. I also remember he had problems with his health, a few too many kebab meat pizzas perhaps?

Andy Liney?

Ex VSC chairman and the fella who along with JR drove the whole Keepmoat stadium project.

I know he became disillusioned with the Rovers support and I haven't seen him around the club in a long time. I also heard he had health problems but was told he was still seen around Retford. That was a bit back now though.

Satdi Santa?

Ex Rovers fanatic famed for his enormous voice and festive headgear. Star of the Clarkson Rovers TV piece. Gave it all up for love I believe and started line dancing with his missus on a Saturday instead.

It's a long while since I heard "you can beat these soft southern Jessie's" echoing around the ground.

Andy Liney was very ill. I might be wrong, but some sort of cancer I think. That's what caused him to resign from the Board of the Rovers and from the VSC. He was seen pottering about in, I think, Rosso once or twice, but I've neither seen nor heard anything about him for several years now.

Sturdy definitely went rugbyfied! He used to pop in here on the odd occasion but even that stopped quite a while back now. So, no idea after that.

Satdi Santa (Bill Workman) returned to the fold about 5 or 6 years ago.  Regularly seen in the South Stand, still wearing the santa hat.

I saw something about Andy on a forum to do with boats. He had a boat when he was involved with Rovers.

I think his illness was one reason, but I think there was something else - I don't know what - behind his decision to cease his involvement with Rovers.

I have also heard of him being seen at England games. Maybe one of our England followers could confirm that?

Sturdy was/is a top guy

I remember Sturdy posting one of the best posts ever - it was on the old Confguide forum in our first season in the Conference. All the Confguide users were looking for Rovers fans to have a 'we are a league club and far too good for the Conference' attitude, and Sturdy put up a memorable post, the gist of which of course being that we were just chuffed to have a club to support and the Conference was great. I think after that post Rovers fans were all welcomed as true footballing friends.

I loved Confguide, and its moderator, Hoagy (Yeovil fan) was also a top guy.

Hoagy helped me out enormously. Along with a guy who supported Orient they helped the novice that I was get that website up. Even better, they helped make sure it continued running. Top guys both of them.
