Could be 4-4-1-1 with Mattioni and Grant wide and Copps in the hole. Congratulations to JC who today overtakes Fred Emery's record of 417 regular season League appearances.

Congratulations to JC who today overtakes Fred Emery's record of 417 regular season League appearances.

That made me realise there's another set of records in appearances - league starts. Back in the day they had no subs, so starts is where it's at. Come on Copps, keep going, not there yet  :boxing:

Sounded like a classic Williams style goal, that's happened a lot recently, seems he's progressively getting into his stride since Ferguson has been here - tactics or confidence?

Sorry folks - I understand that some of you use (or try to use) player for updates but to be honest the discussion of player issues is getting in the way of the football updates.  Would it be better to have a separate thread for player?

Don't mean anything controversial, nor to cause offence like....

Was Copps injured? One player I wouldn't sub when wanting to see a game out. Only player that we have that's got the intelligence and skill when you need it in tight situations. Chaplow can't hold the ball like Copps.

Glad we held on.

IDM, it wont be easy of course but we are only 6 points away from a play off place just now with 22 games left.
fifteen wins and 7 defeats (Fergie doesnt draw many does he) could see us get in there.

We're at the moment too inconsistent for the play offs. We need to get a run of wins together to have of the play offs, and hope some of the top teams hit a bad run i.e. our opponents this Saturday Southend.

Mid table would suit us this season.  We aren't good enough. A decent finish to build for next season would be best I think.

The form over the last 10 games (1.7 ppg) would see us on 68 pts at the end of the season. Just outside the play-offs. So we need to go on a bit of a run but we're capable of doing that.

Might happen if Fergie recruits well in January. Maybe there is a player exchange involved in the deals for either Forrester or Wellens?

I don't know but we've drawn against Burton, Coventry and Wigan away so I don't read too much into it.

.........and to be fair, could have, possibly should have, won all three games.

What also stands us in good stead is that we've already played all of the top six away.

I don't think anyone is being pessimistic, but being realistic. We are not a top 6 team at the moment, but with a consistent winning run then we could be looking towards a top 6 finish. With PD incharge, most including myself were predicting relegation, no one is suggesting that now. I think we've moved along a lot since the arrival of Fergie.

I was at the Scunny game, i am a STH and sit with the BB.
You may have misunderstood my comment.
CiM had said that the faxt that we have already played the top six away and was making positive noises about our chances of pushing for top six.
I was agreeing with him, hence my "i love it when people are optimistic".

Les, to be fair we are not far away from being in with a shout of top six, i just hope DF brings the right players in in January.
We have lost just two of our last ten fixtures in League and Cup so that indicates we are going in the right direction.
Three or four consecutive league wins is not impossible and that would put us right up there amongst it.

Hound, agree. I think we are saying the same thing in different ways. I did not rule out a top 6 place, only it needs a consistent run of games in which we win for us to move up the table. Presently, our inconsistent keeps us rooted in mid-table. I agree again, that Fergie needs to buy well in January, but also let the right players go, those not in his plans and tactics.
