Brilliant yet again from the club letting us have our say!
Also note what is said about us having a new supplier that will be announced in Feb, be amazing if we can start the new deal in the Champoinship wouldn't it! :scarf: :bbscarf:

Brilliant yet again from the club...
I'm sure there's a few parents who won't see it that way.
-
Be nice to see a bit of a retro look.
-
I really do feel strongly that we should keep the red and white hoops. For me it is one of the things that defines the DRFC "brand."
The away kit is a bit of a blank canvas, but I'd always favour a return to the African Violet and Black of the early 70s.
-
This seasons kit is nice, needs to be hoops nothing daft.
I still stick with my favourite which is the collared Ledger Mobility one from when we got promoted from Conference.
-

In fairness the club getting the fans involved with kit design and the fact that we're changing kit every year are 2 totally separate issues aren't they?

Agree 100% ... Red and White Hoops are "the" look for us. Make an evocative kit in the same way as Newcastles Black and White Stripes.
I vote every Season for African Violet and Black - but I have to concede it was probably "of the moment" to the oldies amongst us. I would like to see it win somehow and if the younger fans could see what it meant to us as a Club at the time it would probably be adopted permanently. AV & Black Hoops anyone ?
I did like the Blue and White Hoops too when we had them for a season or so
-
+1 stick with hoops.
-
Red and white Hoops for me too. Makes it difficult to keep making it look different and so encourage more to buy but I like it as our identity.
-
I think that the hoops have now become our identity. They can be spotted a mile off they are so distinctive and apart from the odd Hamilton or Wigan RLFC fan they are one of ours.
-
With respect to design, I think the Avec kits have been some of the best we have had and unique to DRFC. If we go with a major manufacturer (addidas, nike, puma) then generic templates are used; something which I'd be disappointed with.
Hopefully not Sondico. Be interested to see who we partner with.
I do understand frustrations regarding the yearly change, but most clubs do that now. You do, however, have the option of buying it or not.
-
Can we go back to black shorts and trim would be nice.
-
That's the conundrum. Being asked to redesign your identity, your brand, every season. MacDonalds, Heinz? A strong brand is instant recognition and we have that above most clubs.
Our shirts can be spotted in crowds very easily. Take the chap at the Cricket in South Africa, the Rovers supporters at the Malaysian? Grand prix etc etc.
Only yesterday referring to the youth of football to reclaim your heritage....the brand, the hoops are our heritage. Let's not play about with the brand it's ours, it's on the badge, it's on the steam loco name plate.
Stick with the same please! It's our identity.
-
totally agree with the hoops, would love a retro design to go with it.
Wonder who the new supplier is?
-
I am one to keep the hoops too. I also like the combo with white shorts.
I'd like to see a return to green in the change kit too.
-
How do you design them on the computer? Any one got links to websites/programs to use.
Do the club give the person with the winning design a free shirt? May be an incentive that would get more people designing?..
-

"If your design is eventually chosen as the 2016/17 home shirt then we promise you a money can’t buy experience!"
on the article

I remember going to see Hamilton Accies in about 2003. I wore my Rovers shirt and the locals thought I was one of them. Until I opened my mouth, that is!

I think I'll need to print the PDF, splodge some crayola over the page then scan it back into another PDF.

If it wasn't changing then it wouldn't need redesigning would it?
Personally I don't mind it changing every year as I'm old enough not to feel the need to buy it, but I appreciate there are some fans who find it incredibly frustrating.
-
I also like to move to white shorts and socks with red trim. Going back to black shorts now would seem a bit of a fudge to me.
-
But we won at Wembley in black shorts ;)
-
What about a hooped kit like the one from 1993
-
But we won at Brentford in green shorts ;)

I think it would be cool to have the hoops similar to this but in red obviously, or some sort of patturn in the red hoops, be something different, maybe with a retro button collor. just wish I knew how to design something myself.
-
I have to say I like my hoops big and bold. And straight rather than squiggly.
-
I would stick to the hoops but with a retro collar in red, as for African Violet away.. well I remember going to Exeter for a Saturday night game when we got promoted in 66, all the way for a 0-0 and could not see anything because of the shirt colours plus we had been on Scrumpy in Torquay all day. I think that plain shirts do not sell very well because clubs see them as wearable with jeans etc in Summer months (probably under a raincoat) football shirts now are a fashion thing and not just to identify people's choice of club I believe
-
I quite like this.....

Like that.

We've waited long enough, surely it's time to bring it back...

-
Yes lol thats the one i meant!!
-
Please no. Looks like they've been washed too hot.
-
Why do the designs of the shirts need to change? Can we not just stick on the new manufactures logo on the existing design?

If ever there was a time to reprise that classic it's now. I'd buy two.

I think that you might have your seasons mixed up Bally.
We played them 1968/69 and drew 0-0. I went down with John Barker and the plant lads by train. We went to Torquay then back to Exeter in the afternoon. We went in The Rising Sun I think it was. The landlady would only let us have 3 pints each as she said that the scrumpy was too strong.
We were stuck on the station for hours after the game.

Aye, it'd make grand fuel for the burner in this cold weather...
-
Time for an away kit using this design:

As I keep suggesting and it would be nice to see if anyone else agrees. Please can we have the stars back over the viking badge for all the promotion and cups we have won. Always looks good to show you have won something other clubs do it.

That is the worst hooped shirt we have had. Looks as though someone spilt paint on it.
Just my opinion.
Definitely keep white shorts though look much better as black shorts is too much like Sheff Utd

I didn't realise that we're having a new badge too!
I like the design of the shirt but the dimensions make it look more like a dress.

Something like this would be good. Minus the slash.
-
Let's have collars next time please, much smarter.
-
Yes i would like a shirt with a collar, its about time we had one, i dont mind the white shirts looks smart, and we cant not have red and white hoops, aftet all we are the south yorkshire super hoops.

Must know you then idler as I wor ked at the plant with Barker.
Was in the Rising Sun. The scrumpy tasted like pop but when I got up to leave me legs wouldn't work.
I copped off with a Swedish girl after the game.
I think we slept in the Waiting room on Newton Abbot station that night. The Swede had gone home by then sadly.
What a weekend that was.
-
I went to school with Alex Andrews who was there.
Used to meet the plant lads on a Friday night in the Beehive. Bill Adams, Bill Summers was it (Boxer)? Grahame Parker, Hursty, Hidey, I also went to school with Tony Humphreys who ended up as a police inspector after leaving the plant.
They were good days.
-
Classic!
-
Idler.
Thank you. You have corrected me on that season being later. Never thought that we would not be allowed to get drink when only 16 years old. Now you have also opened another line for me.. Alex Andrews - I have talked to many about Alex, but cannot remember where he worked or what happened to him. Yes I was on the same train as woof woof so would have been near you.
Tony Humphries a sparks at plant, well I was only talking about him yesterday to another Plant Lad - Pete Lakin. we were apprentices together and both joined the Police. Tony actually ended up a Superintendent at Thorne and was my boss when I was forced to retire.. I was crackers they said

The away strip that went with that kit(white shirt with red n green swirls across shoulder n hip) is one of my favourites, especially from that era,but most fans think it was one of the worse we'd had too.

Tony is a great lad. He was at a home game with a couple of his daughters and family about three years ago. Me and him climbed over the wall at Belle Vue a couple of times.
I thought Alex was a draughtsman or book keeper or something but can't remember where. I think that the last time that I saw him was at Huddersfield about 1977 with his mates Tom and Tiny I think.

I've submitted my two suggestions. Home one based on that Grenada top Rob posted.

-
CIM
I think you have just won the competition with those two :scarf:
-
By the way, I've only put the nike tick on there because it looks best design wise. I hope the club consider where the shirts are manufactured (working conditions, pay etc.) when they choose their kit manufacturer.
-

I like the 'button up' on the home shirt but would include the collar you've used for the away shirt otherwise, it's a 'buy one' from me!
-
idler.. Tks that would be Tom Beardsley and either Tim Dixon (Dotty) R.I.P. I believe or Geoff KIng who were always together. Tom in States.. Geoff I believe is in Heccy
-
Copps. Yep I would buy the away shirt too. Well Done I hope it gets the nod
-

Me too !

I really like both of those kits, despite not being big on the African Violet idea. Thing is, we'd need a third kit there wouldn't we for when we play certain teams? Scunthorpe for instance.

Products of their time but I still like both. That time coinciding with me first going to Rovers with my mates rather than my dad probably helps too.

I love both of those kit. Had both, still have the away somewhere
-
Alex Andrews was a mate of mine for many years. I first met him on that train down to Torquay. He's retired now but he and his wife foster children.
He ended up deserting The Rovers to support Man City.
-
Tommyyoes
Thanks for that, I have been corrected by PM ref other matters on this thread, now for Alex I can forgive him for being retired and fostering children as they have needed a family environment, my late wife and I did it for a while. BUT deserting Rovers for another team...never. ha ha ha, up to the individual no prob
-
I know Bally, I gave him some right grief about his treachery.
I did see him at the Keepmoat once or twice in our first season in the Championship, but he was still making the trip to Manchester most Saturdays.
-
Alex was never into sports when he was at Oswin Avenue. I was in the same class as him there for four years.
-
Copps,
love the home top, like the design of the away shirt but the colours are absolutely vile.
-
I like the home top with the grandad collar and buttons too.
Away colours are horrendous though on that, maybe try a version of it in the blue we have adopted in recent years??
-
Any thoughts ?
-
Very clean lines. I like that, but the "fitted" look might not suit a few of our fans... Ahem
-
That's Athletic Bilbao with the stripes turned into hoops isn't it? I like it, much prefer our shirts to be more red than white. Think I am one of the very few who would prefer us to play in all red, my favourite Rovers shirt is the Asics one from the conference. Even if it was only for a season seeing as we change every year anyway, at least it would be something different!
-
Guys! I've just been mucking about with matching various colours and have just invented this combination. What a great away colour choice don't you think?
Never seen before either!
-
I'm sure Arsenal played in something similar a while back. Not in hoops though.
Can someone please knock up a plain African Violet shirt with black trim, collar and cuffs? That would be the away shirt I'd vote for. Teamed with black shorts and black socks with A. V. Trim.
-
Hoops forever with red shorts and socks . No black please

Love the Green and Blue hoops, but the rest...............
-
I like them too, plus the purple. Agree otherwise... :)
-
Just some ideas, of the ones I posted I would take the first alternate home design, the violet/black, and/or the white shirt/green shorts change.
Happy to see other designs!!
-
I like your second home choice, with the red collar, and the Dons away kit.

More efforts:

Good effort.
I like the single red hoop and the one that looks like boca jnrs
-
Ok so how do I add my first attempts? LOL
I don't appear to be able to copy and paste em!
-
Hang on I may have sussed it - as attachments at least!
-
Shorts too.

What program are people using to do this?
-
I've submitted my two suggestions. Home one based on that Grenada top Rob posted.

I like the 'button up' on the home shirt but would include the collar you've used for the away shirt otherwise, it's a 'buy one' from me!
Same from me love the African Violet one.
-
Folks just had the club asking me to remind you that you are submitting serious designs to media@clubdoncaster.co.uk with your names please and good luck.
Cheers

I've been having a go with this one:

I can't find any online that will let me do the idea in my head, so will have to be good old pen and paper for me, if and when I can be arsed!
I like your home kit Al, ditch all the DRFC, RTID and dates off it though, makes it look tacky (in my opinion of course!). Never liked it when we used to have Rovers Til I Die on the back.
-
Me too Dave - just assumed we'd end up with summat on it like that anyhow! LOL I will ditch them when I send my finished designs in!
-
I'm loving CiM "Grenada" home kit and Al's modern retro Blue Yellow X.
But and a huge BUT
Please can we have hoops and not horizontal stripes ie ones that go all the way around with none of that side panelling b*llocks. Just saying...
-
I'm loving CiM
What you do in your free time is nothing to do with us.
-
Hang on I may have sussed it - as attachments at least!
Love the blue and yellow away kit
Have said it before but bring back the tam o'shanter

I went here, but can't put them together as whole kits. Also this site allows me to click on the image link for posting here.

This is fun!!!
Keepers - One for the BFG?
-
Not sure this would ever take on - looks a bit 'speedway' but with a bit of work you never know!
Not for me to be fair but interesting idea nonetheless.
-
Al they are disgusting
-
Just to try to get something different than the basic hoops....

Al they are disgusting
I know but it's been a giggle mucking about with the website for a bit!
I have sent a coupla real entries into media@clubdoncaster.co.uk and I hope loads of other folk do too!
My stepdaughter (aged 12) has managed to design some she's hoping to send in too on the same website as I linked earlier - have you had a crack on it yet Red it's pretty straightforward when you get messing about with it?
Stepson has had a go too.
All good fun - some ideas obviously more successful than others! Ha!
Ha
-
Hahaha, certainly entertaining, I'll give you that.
It's a shame there's not something (ignoring photoshop, and paint which would be a bit shit anyway) that you can easily do this on on a PC.
-
I haven't got a clue how to use photoshop so the https://www.owayo.co.uk/football.htm link has been pretty cool to be fair!
-
Just to try to get something different than the basic hoops....
Just no :)
-
My understanding is that there's a terrific prize available for the winner of this years competition. If you have half an hour to spare I would get a design entered. You never know!
-
Rob, I posted this a while back which is a bit similar to your idea and looks good I reckon...
-
I have regressed to my 12 year old self and put these together with good old fashioned pen and paper! Tried to do something a bit different and used pinstripes (or pinhoops) similar to the Celtic shirt that was on here. Also done one mostly red (which I prefer) then the other mostly white for those who like that sort of thing. Keeps us in hoops but a bit of variation. Would maybe work with a black collar and black shorts and socks too.
-
I agree with SM - it's my understanding that the big prize really is a once in a lifetime jobby! C'mon folks get designing and sending to media@clubdoncaster.co.uk with your details!
-
Done an away one using the same colours as my running club Danum Harriers, think it looks ok, bit of a variation on what we've had before.

That shirts bute. Would love us to have that.

Aren't they the Belles' colours as well?

You need to be careful not to copy somebody else's kit too closely otherwise manufacturers get involved in disputes over copyright.

Yeah, I like that! Can we have this one please!!!!!
-
Just a couple of days left. If you want the big prize then get designing!
-
And once more make sure it's sent to media@clubdoncaster.co.uk for judging/shortlisting for the final group!

I think it would be cool to have the hoops similar to this but in red obviously, or some sort of patturn in the red hoops, be something different, maybe with a retro button collor. just wish I knew how to design something myself.
Might be a good idea, the famous quote from the club shop,"theres only so much you can do with hoops",well this might be worth a shot for a season. Can any techy's on here photoshop the green to red and swap badge?
-
d
-
I stuck to the traditions and sent two home ones similar to these in (red with white hoops and white with red technically! LOL)
My stepson and stepdaughter have gone for more solid blocks of colour.
Me - I prefer the hoops now - they're OURS! Ha!
-
My Step Daughter Abbie's go.
-
And my Stepson's.
-
And now I'm gonna stop hogging the thread! LOL!
Apologies all!
-
some great designs! I don't think there's too much wrong with the basic hoops. Stick an England flag on it, and its perfect ;)
-

I like that as its a "nod" to our original kit - at least colour wise
Would still like African Violet and Black Hoops though !
-
Had another go.

Love this one, if it had a grandad collar instead of a v neck it would be perfection to me.

That Home.
Al's Stepson's Away.
-
It would be nice to know how to get a rovers badge onto a short you are designing, i would think are quite a few like me that can't enter because they don't know how to use these kitbuilders and then be able to post it.
-
Scissors and sellotape works. It doesn't have to be digital.
Proper paper drawings are also acceptable.
-
wasn't the deadline 5pm yesterday?
-
No way!. Was going to do some kits this weekend but seems like I missed the deadline. Should of made the deadline midnight on the 24th

Thursday evening is a bit of an odd deadline? Maybe the new manufacturers are in town today or this weekend?
-
I'm disappointed by such a short deadline and have said so in my e-mail which I have sent with a design anyway,
I'm someone who loves the club and its increased attempt at fan inclusion but between work and family I have to plan time to sit down and do something like this, even if it is to scribble onto a piece of paper.
Anyway I've told them that mine can be the winning design for the kit next year.
I'm not sure how to put a picture onto my post so the attachment will have to do
I'm now going to take my ball home and sulk under the stairs
And I've just realised that I need to do it as a pdf to stop stuff moving about. I'll try again tomorrow
-
I'm just more impressed you did that in Word, Godlike
-
now in pdf
-
There are good reasons why the submission period was relatively short. However its not for me to go into detail about it but I'm sure the club will be very happy to discuss this and other issues at the MTO on Feb 4th.

I'm sure there are but the club is not reaching out to everyone by putting such a short deadline are they. Next time, if it is done over 2 weekends then that would give everyone that little more chance
