Will the curse of paul dickov come back to hornt us letting bury walk the ball in on the opening day of the season
-
Please can we not use this excuse - if we hadn't done that I would have seriously considered stopping my support after 50+ years.
If we should eventually be relegated by 1 point, the ref at Rochdale might be a slightly more legitimate target, but by far the biggest fault is with our players gaining no wins and only 4 points from 16 games when a measly 6 out of those 48 points would have been enough.
-
Not at all.
Try looking at the Colchester and Blackpool games.
-
There are many moments/games to look back at that could easily have given us 2 or 3 more points this season,The stonewall penalty at Chessie to add another, but the Bury walk in is not one of them for me,it was the right thing to do and I have never regreted it happening.Even if we go down.
-
Some people will use it, just like some people still use the excuse of the called off Charlton game being the reason we went down from the Championship

Totally agree Dutch. When you consider the last minute goals conceded againt Peterboro and Rochdale, the goal in the last 5 minutes against Blackpool and the mauling at the hands of Colchester there have been numerous times when we could have taken a point only to be let down by a lack of professionalism. What happened against Bury was, thankfully, a better example of our players behaving as professionals.

Agree and this reminds me of the Charlton waterlogged pitch " incident" when people were saying those were the points that cost us relegation
Wrong cos I as pointed out at the time we lost to 10 men the previous game (was it Barnsley) so we may not have held our lead for a whole half v Charlton when we had only 10 men.
Truth is nobody can say either way - and after the Forrester goal v Bury if we had not let them walk it in they may have got mad and scored 2 or more goals anyway AND crocked a few of our players . Again its pure speculation what would / could have happened (as I have just proved)

it just so happens my favourite club at the moment for obvious reasons ( Chesterfield) are at home to Bury next Saturday -- think we ought to remind Bury of Dickov's kind deed and call in our marker and get them to make an extra effort
assuming rovers win both matches then chessie would have to win at Bradford if Bury won
-
Far too many poor performances under Ferguson since he took over to blame Dickov for the position were in this season!
-
Imagine if we stayed up on goals scored
-
No excuses if we go down, we will have deserved it, one game wouldn't have cost us, this sort of attitude is why we struggle to improve, winners adapt, losers find an excuse. If we go down we haven't been good enough over forty six games.

Because 45 games isn't enough to "recover" from a draw on the opening day??

Yeah that !

Anyone who REALLY would want us to stay up through having refused Bury that equaliser should take a couple of days off, go for a walk and think about their life priorities.

If we do go down by a small margin there will be plenty of if-only moments to look back on. However that Bury game on the opening day really shouldn't be one of them.
-
Posh will be and should be the biggest one.

Posh will be and should be the biggest one.
My top three would probably be:
1. Rochdale away, and the referee's eccentric timekeeping.
2. Peterborough home. Stuckmann's brain fart in the last minute.
3. Burton away. Missed penalty by Williams.
-
Sorry, yes, it was Rochdale I was thinking of. Christ knows how I got Peterborough from that.
But agree with the above. Possibly Gillingham at home as well when, as I put a while ago, Williams shat the bed in front of goal at the death when he could've won it.

4: Shrews goal direct from corner at the Keepmoat

Williams's missed headers against Shrewsbury and Chesterfield.

Missed one against Blackpool as well didn't he?
-
and here's my 3 injuries that stopped rovers making the play offs
1. keshi anderson getting injured -- i could not believe at the time how he started tyson and left keshi on the bench for that match
2. that classy everton defender getting injured
3. conor grant getting injured
and 4th (reserve) tyson getting injured later on
does anyone else believe rovers would have made the play offs if 1. and 2. had not happened
especially keshi
the right initial QUALITY LOAN signingS were made
according to the present rules (which i believe change next season) and the momentum would have snowballed
-
We lost it at Easter for me. Should have taken 6 points that weekend
-
Keshi was a huge loss. We didn't replace his type of player until McSheffrey came in.
I think Ferguson thought Gooch might do a similar job, but it didn't work out.

1) Agree totally - The pivotal point without a doubt
2) Andy Butlers missed header v Stoke might have won some bugger £250000 BUT had he scored and we took the "might" Stoke back to their place we may - just may I hypothesise - come out of the Tie with more money but more importantly more confidence going forward - as in we took Stoke to a replay what terrors do Teams x,y and z hold for us ?

I think you can only do it just the one time mate.

Genius!
-
For whatever reason, they didn't, they got themselves in a mess and now they're having to give 110% to dig themselves out of it and get their own good results, but that still might not be good enough.
If you are expecting our players to alter the laws of physics/maths by giving more than is scientifically possible, then we are truly screwed.. :-)

What's your thoughts Elmsall on " THOSE two points" ? Would it have been right for us to have stopped that goal being scored under any circumstances ? Oh and is our current predicament due solely to " the curse of Dickov " ?
You posed the question and I'm just wondering if you have changed your mind on reading the posts of others ?
