Two of my posts today on the England v Wales topic have attracted some replies/ comments that I find worrying coming from fellow fans. What do you think?
-
No and yes to the questions in the title.
Cheers

Is it that time of year already?
-
Grow some plums and just say "f**k em".
-
Are friends electric?

I said on the other thread about how things get twisted when folks disagree with you.. And now you start a thread on the subject????
I suppose you're going to suggest I have had a bad day again??

It's a troll. Do not feed...
-
Rigo, is that you?

The whole internet is toxic. It comes down to degrees of toxicity and this place isn't the worse by any stretch. This place is full of double-denim wearing 50 somethings trying to out-pun each other. Harmless really.

I'm a 30-something double-denim wearer, thank-you please.

And I'm a forty-odd year old, re-adjusting my mankini in outrage at such a slur.

Oi I'm still a way off 30...

Yep, it's a WUM new to a forum that is doing the cliched tactic of starting what is apparently a self-pitying but is actually an attention-seeking thread because he's been rumbled elsewhere on the forum. In a desperate attempt to get the regulars to tell him to piss off so that he can then say that he's been victimised.

Correct. Schoolboy tactics. Go somewhere, act like a tool, get kicked out, scream foul.
Of course now that I've agreed with your opinion I've completed the set. We're a clique. BINGO!

I don't think he's that new. His style is familiar...

I thought so too. Mick hasn't paid us a visit for a while...

The amount of times I have prepared a post with "go f**k yourself" or equivalent, then deleted it because I don't want to descend to that level...

Rigo, is that you?
Haha, that was my very own thought too.

Don't worry, it's not me.
But I do think this forum is an extension of the Jeremy Kyle stand, where you get a load of clowns gathered together - a lot of whom have massive paranoia problems.
Andy, how big is that broad brush of yours?

Think he ought to clean the tar off of it...

Probably a similar size to the massive chip on his shoulder.

In that scenario, you're Kyle himself, trying to justify his existence by poking said clowns with a stick to get a reaction.

You're not a paying punter, you openly said you avoid paying the other week.

Okay, examples of some of the daft comments/things on here...
1) The generic 'bashing the owners' - as daft and as business > football as they may be, they're trying to do their best. Yet some folk hate them because they aren't John Ryan (who did a good job, but had plenty of faults).
2) The 'Rumour Mill' forum. Seriously guys? If a player has a good agent (of which there are plenty), he'll be well connected to journalists - it's an effective two-way relationship to have. And every 'proper' manager knows who is tapping up who in football, etc.
3) Comments last week along the lines of 'the Russian government smuggled the hooligans out of France'. Again, seriously? I think the Kremlin have got bigger fish to fry than worrying about 150 Lokomotiv Moscow lunatics running riot in Marseille (and that's not defending what happened by the way).
This isn't forgetting the 'you're not a proper fan' b*llocks that goes on, on this forum. Whether you've been to 1,000, 100 or one match, every single person is just a paying punter at the end of the day.
Bloody hell, you ought to look at the Rovers Facebook page, you'd spontaneously combust.

You know you've turned into a WUM Rigo, right?
-

Sometimes I pay. It generally depends on who's playing, where, and who I know there.
Anyway, I'll leave you all to squawk and battle it out amongst yourselves - and decide the answer to the question in the title of this thread.
I aint that interested tbh buddy, just happy to point out glaring contradictions when I see em.
Good luck.
-
And lo, Jeremy puts down his stick and scurries away. His job is done now.
-
Christ. I have my gripes with this forum at times, but if it's so god-awful in every aspect, AND you have little interest in the football club it concerns, why spend so much time posting here?

The thread was started by a potential WUM - if you read the other thread he/she refers to..
And you have picked up on some of the extremes of posting that goes on here, much if not all of which gets shot down by the rest of the posters with a bit of common sense and maturity, plus a bit of banter.
If you don't like it, why are you here? That's not a pop at you by the way, your presence is as welcome as mine or as anyone else's, just a question...

Another person going to be driven away. Bye Rigoglioso .
Your not a paying punter WTF

I think that you are underestimating Rigo's resilience. 🙂

If we were all as friendly and welcoming as you, he'd have been long gone already.

By ass kisser I take it you mean anyone who doesn't think Terry Bramall sacrifices babies to the sun god Ra while embezzling the club and pissing in orphanage beds.

I didn't know you were into thrash metal.
They were never one of my favourite bands.😉

How does challenging someone's opinions on a) other posts and b) the forum in general, translate into being an "ass kisser"
IMHO Rigo and anyone else can post whatever they like, including the OP (WUM or not as the case may be) but would then be open to question and counter opinion.
The fact that sometimes a poster makes an inflammatory or controversial post leading to much disagreement, that doesn't make the users "ass kissers" or whatever.
Statements like that don't help do they? If you don't agree, say so, and say why.
Do you get that? Do you understand?

Initial thoughts:
This forum is full of misunderstandings (probably no different to many others)
There are lots of personal rivalries and alliances and prejudices – it would be interesting if we could choose to view posts as anonymous and a few posters might be surprised by the outcome?
Posters may not be open to views which challenge their own, or to ideas which appear a little bit different and may respond by putting negative labels on others like troll or WUM, or by ridiculing such posts or posters - this type of response probably means :
I cant be bothered to challenge or question this so in my capacity as self appointed moderator I will condemn it/ the poster
And/or
I don’t understand this, or the posters motivations, so I will jump to conclusions and in my capacity as self appointed moderator I will condemn it/ the poster
And/or
I don’t agree with this so I will wind this guy up by ridiculing him/her or by calling them a WUM or a troll.
For my part I can reflect on my posts and can see that I have taken stuff too personally and in biting back I am just mirroring the judgmental behaviour of others and adding fuel to the fire. Also I am not a moderator so I should not be acting like one eg by starting this thread, or by whinging about the behaviour of others. If I dont like what I read - I know how to close a tab.
Thanks for indulging me and for helping me to get things in perspective.

Posters may not be open to views which challenge their own
Yeah just like when you say someone hasn't a clue about football because they had a different opinion on something to you, eh. :silly:

Yes - exactly. Thats what I mean by saying "in biting back I am just mirroring the judgmental behaviour of others"
If it helps I apologise for questioning your knowledge of football - I cant think of a worse insult to a football fan and I am not proud of it. On reflection do you still think it appropriate to use the "silly" emoticon? The only thing I cant take back is the opinion that we have both judged each other unfairly.

This.
When it crosses the line and becomes personal insults, however, that's when it goes too far.
Agreed - there are times when I get angry about some posts but I think twice before posting an insulting response - I try and post what I would be prepared to say in person.

In the style of Brian`s Mum - Now listen `ere, `es not a WUM - `es just a very naughty boy.
