For anyone who has an interest, dig out a copy of 'Testament of Youth'. It's by Vera Brittain. The older amongst us will remember it being televised in the late 70's. The book starts slowly, but if you persevere for 50 pages, it will show you beautiful writing, it will teach you a lot, it will get you emotionally involved, and, in the end, it will make you cry. For me it is one of the greatest books I have ever read.  And Vera has another claim to quite significant fame too btw.

That photo brings it home NNK.

And the most striking thing for me. The setting looks just like looking out from the Crags at Conisbrough, across the Don to Cadeby. Where I played as I grew up. And there will have been generations of kids who played at Thiepval before and after 1916.

Places where evil things happen aren't any different to anywhere else. Evil things can happen anywhere. To anyone.

And still the world doesn't learn from past mistakes. Still itching for wars, still wanting to have power over other countries, as well as they're own.
Politicians should be taken to these places, and shown just what carnage, their decisions can lead to.
