I'm after a camera that I can use when out on my bike and also as a dash cam in the car.
Anyone got one/got any recommendations?

The bog standard go pro hero is good, and you'll get about 4hr30min of recording from a 32gb sd card. £90ish on amazon

Hi Mike
Sorry to go off at a tangent but you may have thought of this already ... are the Cars more vulnerable if they have a Dashcam permanently wired in and on show pls? After all the Satnavs actively said to tea leaves ... heres my Satnav help yourself and please make sure you break my windscreen to get to it !
Been considering a Nextbase 212 from Halfords which looks ok and gets good reviews but wont fit on your Bike Helmet I suppose !

Someone suggested to me to just use my mobile in an appropriate dashboard holder, when I enquired about one.

Dunno, JT. I've seen dashcams that are very inconspicuous and elsewhere seen reports of them being left in convertibles with the top down and not even noticed by tea leaves but I suppose with a dual-purpose cycling/dash camera it would be more of a bracket-mounted thing that could be more theft-worthy so I'd take it out with me.
the Mobile idea isn't bad, BB. I'll have a look for a dash cam app then I would only need a go-pro type thing for cycling.

Yes it was one of the things suggested on a Forum I read about Dashcams. There are holders (just seen one in Costco) for the Mobile but then people just bung them on Video I think. Then I suppose when you have done your trip into Town or wherever you take out the Phone and delete the Video providing you don't need it ? Don't know how long it would record for if you were on a long journey ,,,, or what would happen if someone rung you ?

I wondered what would happen if someone rang you Wolfie, regarding whether it would continue filming while you used it in hands free mode, providing you could of course.
Probably it would be best to use an old mobile just for filming.

Not a bad idea, BB. I've got an old iPhone 5s in the bedside table. WOnder how long the video will record for...

Ive got a transcend 220 in the car no good for a bike but tbh its hardly noticeable outside the car unless you are really looking.
I wondered about the car being a bit more of a target but Ive had no hassle at all and it helped a young lady who was driving round a roundabout down Lakeside who just suddenly spun round in the icy conditions all captured on my dashcam

I downloaded nexar as a dash cam on the iPhone. Great quality and also has number plate recognition although not always accurate but the app was free
-
How long will it record for, WR?
I do a fair few 3-4 hour journeys and I could wipe it after each trip if nothing noteworthy occurs.
-
Hi Mike,
The longest journey I have used it for was just over an hour with no problems. I think it may be unlimited recording

My old Samsung Galaxy ace Video's for an hour and then stops videoing. I just tried it tonight! The battery was nearly flat also.
