Having a clear out and come across a photo of the Doncaster Licensed Victualers Association on a trip to Gordons Gin Distillery in London. One sad absentee was Alick Jeffrey who was the Landlord of The Black Bull at the time but had other business to attend to that morning. Time has taken its toll and I can only remember 3 names. There was Biscuit Billy from the St Leger Tavern, Wee Reggie from The Underground and Graham from The Horse and Groom. I have no doubt that some of you will have at least one of these people to thank for pulling your after match pints in and around town.

When was this? We had the Horse & Groom at the end of the sixties so I'm wondering if this is before or afterwards as my Dad usually got involved with LVA stuff...
-
This was taken in September 1975

You struggle to find many smiling landlords these days.
Looking at the check trousers of the guy sat at the front and the wide lapels of the one in the suit at the front I'd say that it was about 1972/73/74 at a guess.
Is the guy with the beard McGuinness from the Beethams?
-
Beat me to it Bangor. Wasn't Terry Oates a lot to do with the LVA then or was he later?
-
Alick Jeffrey was Landlord of the Fox in Stainy from 1974, so he not have moved to the Black Bull by then
-
I guess Stainforth must come under Doncaster for membership of the Donny LVA.
I wonder when he moved to the Black Bull.

Sorry my pet hate !
Terry Oates would not have been "active" at this stage and probably did not taken over at The White Hart (Thorne) until maybe 1978 or so
The Beard on Row 2 seems to be The Beethams bloke as someone said earlier on

Good one - I fully understand and empathise !
Perhaps it would have been better all round if the Race had become The Rockingham after all !
