And what a win that was!  Should have been out of sight at HT but we weren't and it was looking like a 1-1 going into the 90th minute or so, when they took the lead.  We all know the rest!

Am hoping for a less stressful finish tomorrow, as I am going!

That does look again like a 4-4-2 set up unless Houghton is playing at back.

DFP say Richardson at RB. Presume Evina is at LB. Wright and Butler at CB. Potentially with Houghton in back line as part of the failed 5-3-2 formation.

One give away goal in 4 games, this defense even when personnel is shifted around is starting to gain some strength..   Williams banging them in at the other end can only mean good times :-)

Looks like a strong attacking bench, the beast and Calder will be desperate to get some game time after Tuesday.

MORE LIKELY 4-1-3-2 as recently with Houghton in front of the back four.

Natural selection at work?

Maybe at this level fewer goals will be of brilliant attacking quality?

We have defended well lately.
A Coppinger ball into the box has just been deflected onto the bar.
Could have gone in.
Next ball in from Rowe almost makes a goal for Williams.
We are getting on top again.

A great chance, 3 on 3.
Marquis squares to Williams who fails to get a touch.
Apparently too much pace on the ball across goal.

Glass half empty again?  Ain't most goals conceded due to poor defending..

The 3 clean sheets out of 4 before today was due to good defending.  I know which scenario i'd rather highlight.

Superb cross for their goal.  Can't remember who was defending the scorer, Wright or Richardson, but he checked behind him, saw their player, the cross came in and he'd lost him.  Can't let him stay blind side and expect him to be next to you.

That aside, we are playing well, creating decent chances and looking worth a goal or two.

More like sharp finishing by crewe..

Blair was quiet, and until Calder came on we had no outlet down the left..

Richardson looks good for this level, needs to catch up with fitness..

As bad defensively as back in April, they had one or two up front with a bit of quality and we were found out, unless we sort the problem the cost us last season this season will be a massive disappointment.
Title: Re: Crewe v TLO Doncaster
Post by: Beerseller on September 03, 2016, 05:06:30 pm
Well, we ought to have scored 3 or 4 but credit to Crewe, they defended like their lives depended on it and we didn't. We were well on top for large parts of the game, did pretty much as well as we could with most chances and on another day would have come out easy winners.

I was at the wrong end of our terrace to see much of their second. Seemed to go under Marosi and I don't think he did a lot wrong. For their first he had no chance.

I won't be predicting a win against Morecambe ;)

Goals win games we must be more clinical with the chances created if we don't we won't progress.

PRESS | DARREN FERGUSON | We weren't ruthless enough. We've been on a good run & we'll have to go on another #DRFC

DF | I'm not disappointed with the overall performance but you win the game in both boxes & we haven't and we should have #DRFC

We have some good players yet to feature. We'll be right.

The thing is though, we have lost two games in the final minutes that we shouldn't have.
We are giving teams around us an advantage that they shouldnt have over us.

Marosi shouldn't be dropped did 2 or 3 good saves

We had 56% possession against 44%

We had 16 shots against 6.
We had 7 shots on target against 4.

We should have won today. The best attacking players were playing today, no better injured or on the bench. So they must improve.

Fergie has form for dropping keepers after a loss though doesn't he.

Will he drop any of the attacking players having failed to take chances, you can't do one without the other.

Again giving away late goals when we should be seeing the game out and taking the point

No we should have been going for the win.. Which we were..

And now currently we have f**k all, a point is better than nowt

COYR

And now we have nowt, should have seen it out when we pulled it back late on. A point is better than f**k all every day of the week

COYR

But the situation is asymmetric since the introduction of 3 points per win. If you go for a late winner from an equal score late in a match on 10 occasions and lose 5 matches and win 5 you will have 5 points more than if you draw all 10. I would rather win and lose a few than draw them all.

Fair enough Dickos, it was after a draw but following a defeat.
Etheridge took blame for goals in both games.

Also, Stuckman was on the end of such a decision wasn't he.

I don't think he should be dropped.
Dickos must have thought Fergie might do so though because it was him who brought the subject up.
I just added that Ferguson has form in that area.

Marosi shouldn't be dropped. The first goal was down to Evina and Wright. Not sure about the second but it came from a free header at the back post.

Marosi made a couple of good saves. One was very good indeed.

But who says we will win 5 games, take the point when you have it and don't throw it away. That point may be important come the end of the season.

We equalised with around 10 mins to go in a game we had dominated both possession and chances.  Of course we should be going for the win!

I was at the wrong end of our terrace to see much of their second. Seemed to go under Marosi and I don't think he did a lot wrong. For their first he had no chance.

I just watched the Ch5 goals programme - for their second the Crewe player got a slight touch/deflection to the original shot.  That is what beat Marosi.

I'm sorry but at 1-1 with 8-10 mins to go in a game we are dominating, after a 4 match winning run and being in the top 3 early in the season, we should go for the win.

That doesn't mean we should be careless in defence mind..  However their second took a big deflection.

By the way, going more defensive is not always a guarrantee of not losing the match. How many times have we seen Rovers (or other teams) sit back and then concede anyway.

I guess we will just have to agree to differ in opinions Glos

I don't necessarily think we should have sat back after we levelled but i do think we shouldn't have gone gung ho for the win.
A bit of consolidation after we scored so we didn't concede and we still might have gone on to win the game but would have been less likely to lose it.
The radio commentators mentioned that it was likely to bite us in the bum and they were proven to be right.
