Just a query really. Does anyone know if the club are planning to release a Coppinger DVD documentary to celebrate this landmark season/achievement and his overall career at DRFC?
Reason I ask is because I know someone on here mentioned that he'd been interviewed for a documentary the other month however, I assume that was for the SKY Sports thing that could be viewed t'other week.
The club could make a killing with this if it was produced and presented in a proper way. I'm thinking similar to 'Ashes To Glory', but better!!
I'd certainly buy one anyway!!

The problem with most DVD packages is that they dont sell in significant numbers to make it worthwhile. Those end of season DVD's we used to do sold in very small numbers, something like 10-15.
-
Most other clubs have a decent range of DVDs.

Which means what?

I was in the same meeting as SM and can confirm his figures are correct.

I for one would buy one but never had any of the others. Plenty of action and loads of interviews, if they gave a percentage to charity and the rest to the Rovers youth set-up I think they would sell.

They either make them sell or make a loss on them.
Either way, its about having products available.

You're right, multi-millionaire businessman have no idea about speculating to accumulate.
Maybe they've actually assessed it, you know, like businessmen do, and concluded that the price they would need to charge on a small run of DVDs would not be attractive to the public.

Forget DVDs. They will be obsolete technology soon.
A much more cost effective way of doing it would be to to create a paid-for section on a video sharing or streaming website. Youtube, Vimeo - all the major ones do it or there are hundreds of other sites offering similar services. £4.99 to download an hour long Copps documentary - I,d pay.

I still don't get your point. Because other clubs make them and make a loss on them we should do the same? Seems an odd justification for committing to a commercial decision that means that DRFC will be throwing money away. There is no demand at our club, that's the simple point.

Barnsley seem to have fully embraced the "having products available" mentality...doesn't mean it makes good business sense though.

I appreciate the end of season DVD's will never really sell unless we have a brilliant season which ended in promotion or something similar.
A Coppinger documentary would, I think, sell substantially more copies just because of the man himself and the achievement to the club. Look at those limited edition black JC tops they had on sale t'other month, I forget how many they produced, but they seemingly sold like shit off a shovel. Surely a JC DVD, if produced and marketed correctly and utilising the online shop, would more likely sell a thousand plus?

I can't be bothered to spell it out for you.

I suppose it's about doing Market Research. A simple pole on here for example would give some indication of the numbers that would be expected, undercut the total produced just to be safe and if demand gets more then produce more.
There's no point going out and mass producing day 2000 end of season dvds if they're not shifting. With something like a JC special edition DVD then there would be more interest in the DVD and you could even get JC to sign 'x' amount to generate more interest.

This makes more sense financially to be honest. I store all films etc... on the TV's hard drive anyway so would be simple to download and transfer.
Unfortunately it would isolate some fans who don't have that technological awareness, but it would at least reduce any financial deficit to the club.

No surprise there.

Bloody Poles, always undercutting us.

Put season ticket prices up by £5 and give a DVD of the previous season's highlights and goals to every STH.
This would reduce the cost per DVD and leave some for sale in the shop. I know some families might end up with more than one copy but it may work.
-
Why not 'Pledge' it:-
£5 pledge - This will get you a download copy of the documentary
£12.50 pledge - This will get you a DVD copy, and also a downloadable version.
£20 - Same as the £12.50 however, the DVD is signed by the man himself (limited to first 'x' amount of pledges).
This would easily cover the cost of production whilst covering every angle for the fan/customer. Club won't lose out and everyone is catered for.
