Thought he was excellent today, hardly wasted a pass. Probably the best game I have seen from him so far. MOM for me. :rtid:
-
Agreed he was excellent as was Alcock.
-
Best player this season for me. Its crucial that we extend his loan in January.
-
Said to my mate he was MOM just before Alcock got it
Great performance by everyone today even Everidge caught some crosses
-
Just needs to add a goal or two to his game

Player of the season for me
-
Agreed
-
He was excellent, along with Alcock, but for me I thought Coppinger was outstanding.
-
Yes, I agree. Keeps it simple. Rarely wastes a pass. He's got everything you need for that position.
-
thought he had an excellant 2nd half, the teams shape looked good today
-
I agree he was good today. I think he only gave the ball away once all game, which considering the amount of touches he had is impressive. I was worried when I heard McCullough was out for the season and where as he's not quite as good on the ball, houghton does get around the pitch well. Worth noting a few crunching tackles from Blair today which was good to see.
-
In the role Houghton plays he almost goes unnoticed. He is rock solid in front of the back four and has that knack of being in the right place to pick up the ball.
As has been said, he has been one of our best players all season.
Nice to see Alcock back and playing well too.
Today we had Alcock, Baudry,Houghton, Coppinger, Rowe,Blair and Marquis who all looked a class above everyone else on the pitch and who are very comfortable with the ball in tight situations.
-
He was excellent, along with Alcock, but for me I thought Coppinger was outstanding.
Really?, i worship the ground Copps walks on, but his first touch was non existent for me today. Several times let simple balls go out of play with poor control..
-
Mason at left back for the rest of the season to. No more Evina hopefully
-

I remember him doing it once, when he hook turned and didn't realise he was so close to the touchline. Other than that, and especially in the first half, he led Hartlepool a merry dance. They didn't know whether to go left or right, he had them terrified.

-
Outstanding today. My MoM. Fergie wants to extend his loan. I really hope so.
-
Class act.
-
He were good.
-
I only saw him once miscontrol the ball & let it run out of play, I said to my son at the time that you could count on one hand the times he has done that over the past few years. He was excellent especially second half today, making runs & linking up play with the front two. Funny how we all see games differently.

Agreed on the Coppinger thing.
His quality shines through in most games and was no different against Hartlepool.
He has to be one of the best players in this division.

Can't agree with that. I went with a couple of lads who had never been before, I pointed him out before the game, and twice one of them turned to me and likened him to Bergkamp. The touch he had both of those times, I found it hard to disagree.

Thing is, we r so used to seeing him ghost by a player and run with the ball as if it's glued to his feet, I thought he was off his usual high standards to day..
-
I thought that Copps was top-class again. I remarked on how he didn't seem to do things at pace but still drifted past players with ease, wrong-footing them constantly. Yes that one hook out of play stood out but that's because it was so out of keeping with everything else he did.
Regarding Mason at left back, there were a couple of cross-field balls to him that would have terrified Evina but he controlled them admirably.
-
I thought Copps was below par today, misjudged passes and didn't look up to see what was on a few times, the pass he should have made to Marquis for a tap in for example. I'm not saying he was bad just not his usual standard.

Agreed, JM was unmarked 10 yds out, and he passes to mandy who has an acute angle and a defender on him. The most bizarre thinking of the day. He will be back on top form very soon..
-
To be fair, I had forgotten about that one but it was frustrating at the time. Radar was a bit out of sync on that.
-
Back to Houghton, he's still young but have begun to get the impression that if he plays well, we play well.
Really beginning to get hold of the team in that number 4 role and really does make us tick. He allows Copps and Rowe to just go off and do their thing. If he had could add a goal or two, he could really push this team forward but that's being hyper critical.
Very impressed by him and the regular games seems to be improving him too. There was one point in the game where he left 2 Hartlepool players for dead by just stopping the ball. Looks a class act.
-
A couple of Copps' passes went astray, which is quite unusual for his standards, but apart from those he was like Messi.

Brilliant clip!

It is on the EFL site. I get their emails and gave just watched it.
Brilliant, it's like something Peter Kaye would do.

Make a great advert for Specsavers that clip. 😀

As mentioned above, Houghton often goes unnoticed but he does look the part. Breaks up a lot of attacks with a well time tackle. Not afraid of putting a foot in. Rarely wastes possession. He'd be a fantastic permanent addition.
Get some money spent Wetzel.
-
Taking this thread off in another direction; anyone know if Peter Wetzel is still around? Dunno if he still goes to matches but I haven't heard owt of him for years.

I think he's now resident overseas Mike, Israel I believe, although I could be wrong on that.
-
Cheers Martin. Hope he's doing ok wherever he is.

Unless he's moved on fairly recently, he's in Cyprus.
-
Interesting. Houghton has recently changed his profile pic on Twitter to show him in the hoops.
-
I think Houghton is a class above. He has great touch with both feet and he thinks quickly by playing the right ball often first time. He's one of the best I've seen in that position for years. He's well ahead of Keegan and McCullough.
I'd be surprised if we could do anymore than extending his loan as I expect he's destined for better things.
-
"I'd be surprised if we could do anymore than extending his loan as I expect he's destined for better things".
I was kind of hoping that so were we!
;)
-
I've heard he's out of contract at end of season.
-
think he will stay until the end of the season then be allowed to find a new club but if we do go up i think he will end up doing a matt mills and finding a new club.
i do hope he stays as he could grow with the club ala copps
-
A lot thought we wouldn't get Tommy Rowe, what ever happened to him?.
-
Bit different. He told his agent he wanted to work with Ferguson and told him to make it happen, according to what he said at the Retford branch meeting.
The two situations are nothing alike.
-
Houghton is playing regular football with us, and playing well...
Isn't that what all parent clubs want when sending out players on loan, regardless of what league they are loaned to?
If he is out of contract at the end of the season, then he will want to be playing regularly to get in the shop window, which he would do with us.
If he gets a new contract, then there is no rush to go back to the parent club.
If they are doing a deal with agents with (say) a championship club for the summer, then there is a situation where he could go on loan to that club from January pending transfer, but that is pure speculation.
I reckon he will re-sign with us to the end of this season.
-
I agree IDM. If we are still in the top three in January then it would be great experience for him to get to know what success tastes like.
-
I don't see why we should rule ourselves out of getting him permanently in January...He's a good young player but lets be honest,he isn't going to make it at Chelski and I don't think there would be a big queue of championship clubs either...I would be surprised if he was offered anything further at Chelsea so a cheeky bid might suit Chelsea and a decent length of deal might suit him for the security of having a platform to further his Career...
-
I'm not saying we won't. Just that the situation is incomparable with the Rowe signing.
-
Why won't he make it at Chelsea? He could have a good 2 or 3 more seasons on loan where other clubs can develop him then they get the return later??
he may not be ready for them now but why not later??
-
Ryan Mason was patient, was prepared to go out on loan and learn his trade. Even with a glut of foreign t
Players in the Premier league, he became a regular at Spurs. Danny Rose the same.
There's no reason why Houghton can't achieve the same if he keeps working and developing.
-
Good player Mason! Pity we didn't get to see him fully for us! I was under the impression (but could be wrong) that he was almost a permanent signing for us before injuries scuppered it!
-
Houghton imperious again today and richly deserved to get on the scoresheet.
Once again he made things look simple. There were times today when he took passes under pressure and calmly took control and moved us forward in a blink.
He's also smart and agile and wins the ball when the odds are against him. I just pray we keep him and keep him fit.
-
Yep, top notch again! Makes room for the others to play.
-
Take the opening post from this thread and place it here and it applies once again.
-
Got the goal to compliment his game today, a worthy MOTM today
COYR
-
keeps getting better and better, some good signings by Fergie
-
Absolutely justified MOTM award. Superb today. Some of his passing today was real "eye of the needle" stuff. His vision and ability are top notch.
-
So good in the role plays.
Allows Rowe and Copps to do their stuff.
Hope we have him for the whole season.
If we get promoted he may want to stay.
-
Said to my mate he was MOM just before Alcock got it
Great performance by everyone today even Everidge caught some crosses
Dame Edna in goal. Goodness!!!!!
-
Not sure if I am setting myself up here but didn't Houghton get MoM and Everidge caught some crosses?
-
Not sure whether Etheridge caught any crosses. Maybe ask Marosi if he saw that happen seeing as he was playing?
;)

Look at the date of the quoted post. It's 19th Nov. Last week against Hartlepool.
-
Cheers, I hadn't noticed that.

I thought he was passing to Lee Warren, advertising board
-
There is a slight worry in keeping Houghton, what are his wages at Chelski and what are we paying as part of the loan deal? Could we afford him?
For me player of the season so far I really do hope we can keep him to the end of the season
-
He's made sounds in the Free Press that he'd be happy joining us next season if Chelsea don't want him.

He gives the most non comittal answer to a question I've ever read.
