Hope fully there you go

Good to hear that it sounds promising about Houghton.
-
As we were leaving the ground today we were saying that we had probably put on our best performance of the season so far.
Good news about keeping JH too.
-
You could sense his pride and joy at the team that he had assembled was reaping the rewards. Dickovs legacy is gone, bar the odd player, it's a clean slate. A completly different style of play. But alongside the goals, and boy are we being spoiled for goals at the KMS, there's a new found defensive toughness. Craig Alcock always was a quality player.. is he the catalyst for a strong firm back line?
-
Word on alcock some of the cross field balls were perfect
-
Defensively we are really poor
-
We haven't been defensively poor in the last two games.
-
Defensively we are really poor
No we are not.. We are not perfect, but not poor..
The last 3 games, two penalties and one unstoppable free kick..
-
Defensively we are really poor
What did we do wrong today? Was a very solid performance by the back line and they only scored through a wonder strike.
-
Agreed. We were very solid. It's coming together.
-
We have rode our luck not just today but all season defensively
-
We've scored more goals than the opposition all season.
No such thing as luck over a half season length period. Ridiculous notion
-
We have rode our luck not just today but all season defensively
rode our luck today?? They had 3 chances and we had 16...
-
We have rode our luck not just today but all season defensively
hope we keep riding our luck ha

I by and large agree with you, on balance for the season, however today I don't feel like that was the case. They had three chances the whole game, one went in the net and only one of the other two was a clear cut chance. If we're restricting teams to 1/2 clear chances a game then that's goodi n my opinion.
-
He seems to be meticulous on how he wants things done. If you are going to do well you have to have good standards in what you expect from individuals and more importantly the team.
He doesn't miss a trick no matter how well we play he doesn't forget little things that were not quite right. I think if you are a side going for promotion you are thinking a move in front.
If we got promotion, and that's a big if there's a long way to go. Would this side be good enough defensively and offensively to at bare minimum stay up in league one?.
Do we look at this side and say we could retain the whole starting eleven today and it would be good enough to go for promotion again?. Or would it be a mid-table side-a side that just survived or would we get relegated again?.
Do we sense a 'Special' side that can serve us for years or a side that would need breaking up and starting again with?-If we happened to be promoted.
-
If you put to one side the nonsense of our defensive performances at Blackpool and Luton, our goals against record compares with the best in the division.
Personally, I'm now used to DF's brand of 'open' football. Teams get chances against us; the fact that they don't bury them is their problem not ours. However, as you play higher up the leagues, the more likely it will be that better quality teams and strikers will score.
Let's enjoy the ride. At the moment there are only 5 teams up for promotion from what is a very poor division. We're one of them.
-
Since Baudry has settled in and Alcock has come back the defence has looked much better.
Mason is doing well at LB but we lose something from not having a left footed player in that position.

Good post, but what the heck Is a brand of footballl? Can you sell it in the supermarket? Pretentious media buzzwords!!
It's style or type of football. The end!!
-
I don't get this "very poor division" argument at all.
It is the 4th division, so it is going to be a lower standard than what we are used to in recent seasons. But not poor - it is what it is!
-
Can only beat what's in front of you.

I think our team as it is, and I'll include Williams, is top half League One. The weakness may be the depth of quality to maintain a good points average. We'd need quality pushing from the bench and potential game changers.
I think DF will already have his sights on players to improve that depth with, others being moved on.
The platform is there though to push on for the remainder of this season and to crack on next season. Good times ahead I hope.

Agree. When* we go up we should be aiming for the play offs with a few additions. For me, the only position I wouldn't say is taken is the left back. The rest we have quality in.
-
Oh, and I think the style of football suits our Viking name. Raping and pillaging teams, going gung-ho.

I have been watching Mason closely and he is more than capable and does in fact, use his left foot to play the ball forward and cross with his left foot.
He is a genuine two footed player so there is no need to question his ability to be a natural left back.

It's weird, last season Evina was on fire, he gets a 3 contract, then loses.form and drops to the bench. Through injuries and nothing else he gets a chance again, looks not bad, but then becomes hit and miss again.. such a confidence player...
-
I think if we go up, he'll keep the core of the squad and be allowed to add to it for the next stage! Be interesting to see if there's any 'statement of intents' signings in January! It's a balancing act tho - things are going well at the moment - a few new signings in Jan may upset the applecart! For me (and I'll admit I've missed more games this season for one reason or another than I have for a long time) I'd try and tie Mason and Houghton down for the season (altho Mason may already be here - not sure) let Calder go back - try and get another striker, possibly an undisputed number one keeper (marosi is doing well and I still think etheridge will come good long-term) a quality midfielder and defender so 4 in if poss! And those four may include Mason and houghton!
-
Retain those we have first, though as above i would let Calder return to his club. I would get an experienced keeper in for the run in and loan one of the others out.
Get a left sided winger in, maybe somebody who can play left back and left wing, James Husband wouldn't be a bad loan. And a quick striker something slightly different to what we have. Then loan Beestin out for some experience.
-
I don't get this lack of confidence in Marosi.
He is proving over and over that he thoroughly deserves the first choice tag.
His save from the header late on against Orient further reinforces that.
While i am on the subject i am astonished also that some posters still think Etheridge is a better keeper than Marosi.
-
I dont believe anyone has said that Etheridge is a better keeper than Marosi hound, what some have said is that he has the attributes and potential to be a better keeper. Same, same - but different.
-
But you can argue that Marosi has all the attributes to remain a better keeper than Dame Edna also.
I have seen nothing to suggest that Ross has anything to suggest he could be the better of the two.
-
For me, you get in an experienced keeper who is either warming the bench or out of contract. He acts as deputy to Marosi while Etheridge goes out on loan and regains some confidence.
-
Marosi reminds me of Sam Johnstone more and more. Extremely mobile around his box. Very agile as the save on Saturday showed on the penalty saves in the cup game. He's quick off the mark, as shown in the smother when he raced out. His catchings good and his decision making is improving all the time.
-
Marosi has 'fact' performances, Etheridge just a few very bad one's and a decent one, after that it's potential with him. He hasn't give the manager any reason to select him over Marosi.
Players at this level tend to have a few weaknesses don't they?. Maybe Etheridge isn't strong enough mentally to cope with pressure. Not being disrespectful to Accrington but the pressure is a touch higher with us than them.
Just like the pressure our players have is nothing compared to bigger clubs than we are. The mental side is underestimated. You can get two players, player one thinks there's nothing like himself though not as good as player two he produces better performances because he has confidence.
No matter how much a coach works with player two sometimes you can't unlock that talent because the guy doesn't believe in himself. I know personally because i was player two when i used to play.
-
Let's bear in mind that Marosi and Etheridge are babes-in arms in goalkeeping terms. Marko has made giant strides over the last year and who's to say Ross won't do the same with a run of games.
I'm more than happy with our options at present.
-
I'm with you on this hound. I don't have a problem with people using the 'p' word in debating a player's attributes but I asked on what basis had they formed that opinion based on what he has done for us thus far and nobody gave any kind of explanation to justify their opinion.
Following their logic, I would say that Marosi has the potential to be better than Etheridge and back it up by this season's performances.
-
I don't know how much it counts for but Marosi was in the Slovakia Under-21 squad.
-
I guess it could be seen as 'nit picking' on my part. We are going along nice not much wrong with what we've done so far. I'm just thinking ahead if we face a really tough 'backs to the wall' game. Where the keeper can be the difference are the two we have going to win us the game?
It's a fine balancing act changing things in any squad. The spirit seems good at the minute so you have to be careful that any new people can mix in with the rest.
I admire Marosi's professionalism i haven't heard of him moaning to the press because he doesn't play. That's despite him probably being fed up for a long time not getting true opportunities to play. So far he has done pretty well. Maybe i've been spoilt by the previous keepers we have had?.
Etheridge so far has disappointed me i see him as a good prospect but he hasn't done it so far. I do want a young keeper that we can develop and for them to be with us for a long time.
It's just i think a short term older head training with them both, stepping into the side when needed would help all concerned.
-
"Really tough backs to the wall game"
Like Colchester? Like Portsmouth? Like Exeter
He got us the points in these games
-
I love the contrast that's so often apparent when you two write: prolixity on the one hand and and brevity on the other! And both often with interesting things to say.

Thanks bob, I do like to be brief 👍
-
I like this conundrum - I do believe etheridge will be a more long term option but Mario has done really well - he's taken his chance and grasped it - top man! But I saw enough from etheridge pre-season to believe we have potentially a very good goalkeeper there! But it is all potential and confidence - at the moment Ross has more potential imo - and Marko more confidence! While ever we are going well marko will play I'm sure - current form and confidence dictates that - unquestionably! Longer term I would still stick my neck out and say etheridge for now marosi deserves the shirt! Neither seem to be moaners - so it's a great situation to be in! I still think tho that we'll be looking for a keeper with more game experience in the window to up the ante on the pair of em tho!
-
If we're near the top of the League come January and not leaking goals it would make no sense whatsoever to bring in a third goalkeeper!
-
Thanks bob, I do like to be brief 👍
Yeah i've heard that about you. ;)
