If you're the type of guy who goes into the gents after a game like today and says 'if we don't stop conceding we'll get no where' - you're a wet lemon.
If you're the type of guy who goes into the gents after a game like today and says 'Yeovil look the team to beat in this league' you're an absolute microwave turkey.
Two of the amazing things I heard today.
Fergie doesn't understand hard earned away points, 'decent nil-nils' or keeping clean sheets. He's gunna score one more than the opposition - and that's absolutely fine with me. Why it troubles anyone we have a mediocre defensive record when we're a cut above everyone in this league I do not know.
-
Because most people from Doncaster aren't happy unless they've got something to moan about.
-
Maybe coz its bad on the old heartstrings
-
Nah it were comfortable, never in doubt. If they get three back we add one extra, that's how it works in the Fergie era. People need to cotton on because these bog-time conversations are doing my nut in.

Fergie was lamenting a 3-0 win in his interview. I dont think "We'll score one more than you" is really his plan. Nice when it HAS to come off, but rather it didnt HAVE to.
-
There is no doubt it is exciting to watch but it is a strain on the nerves.
It is worse when you aren't at the games though.
I can't get to many away games and I find it to be a bigger strain than watching us at home.
-
maybe he's really Kevin Keegan's son if you score 5 we'll score 6
-
When i go in to the bogs, i like to show off the name of that famous Welsh railway station tattooed from one end of my knob to the other: Rhyl.
-
I had 'Llandudno' tattooed on mine when I was in Tenerife in August, but it said 'Ludo' when I eventually managed to find it hiding in my thermals last home game.
Bloody English winter.

That's just face for the cameras Rob.
Fergie's loving it as much as I am, he's played this way his whole managerial career he aint going to change now.
Only the cardboard cut-out, nerds want a defensive masterclass every game as opposed to a heart-pumping 5-4 er'.

I still look back fondly on Dave Penney's 2003-04 vintage. Plenty of goals and attacking intent but also rock solid at the back.
If you could take the current front six and pair it with the back five from then you'd win this League by a record margin.
-
Never known a team with as much pace as the team we had back then TRB
I'd love the mentality of if you score 5 we'll score 6 but when you are 3 up it's got to be different
-
I've abandoned all hope Fergie can coach a team defensively other than signing some good defenders. It's helps your enjoyment watching rovers once you realise this.
In many ways SOD was the same.
-
Yeah but thank f**k he doesn't chuck on a centre half and go five at the back when we're drawing 1-1.
-
We are exactly like his Peterborough side. It's the way he sets teams up.
-
It's not a problem this season because the teams we are playing against are not good enough to turn us over.
It'll be one hell of a problem in League 1 next season against better teams. I don't think we've all quite forgotten how bad we were in that division last season with Coppinger, Williams etc
I really don't see us dropping out of the top 3 at all now
-
The last 2 posts are bang on.
-
A league higher and scoring chances will be fewer due to better defences.
The other side is that opposing forwards will be sharper and put more chances away.
It would be nice to have a defence that won't need too many changes if/when we go up. It would make pre season far easier too.
Enjoy it while we can but be aware of improvements that need to be made.

I can only get Cwm on mine , big boy. :)

Does this mean we are now known as "Newcastle of the south"? :chair:
-
He can't coach the defensive side he has proved that with every side he has managed. When you play like we do you don't get a watertight defence it just needs to improve slightly.
Lately we've been a bit better on the conceding front, Saturday was a bad off day for us defensively. Luckily we were bang on form going forward.

Did you not say on the other thread you thought we'd tighten up after a while?
-
Yes i did but i don't see us ever being noted for our defensive play. We will tighten up as the back four get's more used each other. We will let less goals in but clean sheets will always be short on the ground for us.
We had been doing a lot better back there over the last few games we just a real bad day defensively. The way he likes to play there will always be opportunities for the opposition but hopefully more for us.
Alcock has 'stiffened' things up a bit back there and Baudry has added a bit more ability at using the ball. At full back we have defenders now not half and half wingers.
-
But you completely contradicted yourself across threads... not even for the first time...
-
I said pretty much what i said in this one. He isn't a manager who bothers that much about defence. The players will tighten it up themselves slightly with familiarity. Have you got a boil or a pimple that needs squeezing?.
