Title: all time record points low...
Post by: Mac the hooped man on January 31, 2017, 12:38:41 pm
i was listening to football heaven and heard somehting that made me think twice..  if you go back to "the experiment",  i seem to remember it being the worst season ever (Post 1998), and we were practically relegated by february, and we still somehow got 36 points.  So a miller rings up and says they are gonna break the record,  jeez, i didnt realize how bad they were, i think they have had a couple of recent wins and they are still only on 16 pts.   WTF..,  after 28 games.   Our side was bad, but christ, what are they watching every week!!.

RTID.

They have some way to go to beat our 8 points in 1904-05 though.  ;)

Do we hold the record for most wins in a season aswell as the record for most losses ?

Yes. Most wins in a season- 33 in 1946-47 and most losses in a season -34 in 1997-98.

PS. Just checking the record of our reserve team in that same season. They competed in the Midland League and took 10 points from 34 games.

So the combined League records of the 1st XI and 2nd XI was Played 68. Points 18 (from a possible 136!)

After picking up 1 pt in 12 games, rovrum now have 31 losses from 40 games. What's the betting they beat our 34 losses record.

It equates to about 15 points in a 46 game season - Rovers only played 34 games that year

By my reckoning Rotherham need 3 more points to avoid the lowest PPG ever... fingers crossed!

Top work Dutch. I have long had an ambition to write a book about football's worst teams. I think I would have my starting point there and unless Rotherham have a "dead cat bounce" I will have another entry to the list.
