Title: Vera Lynn
Post by: not on facebook on March 21, 2017, 09:47:31 am
This passed me the other day as I guess it passed all of us but this grand old lady was 100 years old the other day .

I was not born during Vera's era ,but a certinaly grew up knowing more than enough about this great lady to understand what she was all about and what she meant to the whole country back in her time.

It's a pitty as today's generations will have no idea what Vera Lynn was all about .

This is my happy birthday message to Vera Lynn  > happy birthday Vera.

I must find the white cliffs of Dover song to add to tihis .

Ps the blue birds over white cliffs of Dover was not the type with
feathers

You'd be surprised. I mentioned Vera Lynn to my little 'uns yesterday and my middle 'un (9) immediately started singing 'White Cliffs of Dover'...

He's a bright enough little lad, but I assume (though didn't ask) that her birthday was mentioned in school.

The Forces Sweetheart and the heroine of our nation during 39 -45.

I grew up in the 50's when people would sing in pubs on a Friday and Saturday night and that is where I got to know those songs. Also Gracie Fields...Brilliant times....

I commend whoever got the pictures on the cliffs even the idea alone. Well Done.

Absolutely, bally. I heard about this via the NME Facebook page (I believe young folk might read it):
