Car driven at pedestrians on Westminster Bridge and a police office stabbed outside St. James' Palace. Kitsons.
-
Spent a large chunk of last year working and living in London. Didn't feel safe at all down there.
-
Had a horrible 45 minutes after hearing of the attack trying to get through to my partner, who by sheer misfortune happens to be in London on this one day. She and her mum are safe thankfully. It's just awful.
-
One year to the day since the suicide bombings at Brussel's Zaventem airport and Maelbeek metro station.
-
If indeed this proves to be a terrorist attack, which I don't think we know for sure just yet, then it is almost impossible to prevent this sort of thing from occuring.
-
JUst shown up sky news the suspect being stretchered away probably still alive.
Why do we bother treating him!
-
Two reasons really.
One is that medical professionals are supposed to put their prejudices or preconceptions to one side and just try and give help to anyone who is in need without discrimination - regardless of how they came to be in that position.
And two is, if it is a terror attack, the intelligence you'd get from someone who is alive is likely to be better than that from someone who is dead.
-
And then we get The Civil Rights Mob "Was was it necessary to kill him"? plus in my opinion "Why put a Policeman in danger of being jailed for murder or manslaughter " and there are many on this site who would go down that route.
-
He's dead now. May he rot in hell
-
Yes. He killed four innocent people and injured many more.
-
This guy is worse than McCormick

They should knock the fcuker clean out and lob him off the stretcher into the Thames

Count me out on human rights for the fcuker
-

Can honestly say I haven't seen a single person say this.

This is absolute nonsense from Bally. Of course, it's beneficial from the point of view of the investigation that the perpetrator survives but nobody will question why the police took the action they did.
-
It's a matter of hours since these tragic events occured and it's not even been confirmed as a terrorist attack. Nevertheless, the usual suspects on here are already dishing out their own brand of 'justice'.

I think you should read over certain very recent posts on this site, there is certainly an anti - police brigade on here. PLUS History will tell why was it necessary to fire three or four shots into him when one to the arm or leg could have stopped him. But you obviously know more than me. And as I have been told I speak nonsense I will not post further on this subject. I thank U
-
This sort of fighting (albeit from the safety of a keyboard) is precisely what bas**rds like the one who committed this despicable act want. They want to divide people and they want us to hate in the same way they do.
I hope that, given that it's the anniversary of the Brussels bombings, there isn't more to come.
-

It is confirmed. The authorities will know exactly who he is by now.
-

Given the firepower surrounding Westminster, HoP stil on lockdown, the deployment of the Counter Terrorism Unit, i reckon it's a safe bet it terrorism, the Security Services have probably already identified the attacker, if he weren't a terror suspect many of those Security Services will have been stood down by now
-
Where has it been confirmed? I saw they were treating it as a terrorist incident, given the nature of what's happened and the location, but I haven't seen it confirmed as such.
-
And this is where is gets sinister... I saw this tweeted about earlier on, but I couldn't really make sense of it. However, the coordinates of the attack were apparently posted on a message board yesterday. A clearer/more level-headed explanation is given here: http://gizmodo.com/coded-4chan-post-hinted-at-westminster-attack-a-day-in-1793527996 (http://gizmodo.com/coded-4chan-post-hinted-at-westminster-attack-a-day-in-1793527996)
It could be coincidence, of course.
-
I think someone is confusing being anti-illegal police action with being anti-police.
-

The Met Police are now calling it a terrorist attack, rather than referring to it as one.
Are you really going split hairs about this? Have a bit of decorum.
-
Again, could you point me to where as I can't see anything official on this, from the Met Police or otherwise?
-
Sky news are reporting that the Police have identified the attacker, Counter Terrorism Unit still deployed, draw your own conclusions
-
Again, could you point me to where as I can't see anything official on this, from the Met Police or otherwise?
Listen to the head of the Met.
-
I prefer not to draw conclusions on such an incredibly important and emotive matter. I'll let the experts deal with it and await their findings.
Mr Frost - I have checked the Met website and Twitter feed. They both refer to this as an incident.

Listen to his interview

I have. They declared it a terrorist incident, which is their default position. They have not confirmed anything.

Define a terrorist attack for me would you?

It's one of the most high profile terror preachers in the country that's done it. Shows security and intelligence services are not fit for purpose.

Oh give over would you. How many attacks have they prevented since 7/7?
-
That's a very good question Mr Frost. It's semantics isn't it ultimately. But in this instance I would await confirmation from the Met Police or the Government that there has been a "terrorist attack".
Until that time I don't think it's very useful to be second guessing and getting worked up about who to blame, as inevitably there's only one way that conversation will go, and it will be of an increasingly divisive nature.
There remains the possibility, as far as I'm concerned, that this could have been an individual with a serious mental health issue, but no political axe to grind as such. In that scenario, this would not be a terrorist attack and I would hope people wouldn't be so quick to hope the perpertrator "rots in hell etc."
-
A British born hate preacher!

OK, fair enough.

There is a name trending on Twitter - but there are also reports that he is still in jail.
So it seems it's still as clear as mud as to what's gone on.
-
The mayor has called it a terror attack
-
Don't matter if was a terrorist or not ,it was correct to shot dead the idiot involved.
You don't need a court appearance to find out if he/ she is guilty after ploughing a car into the public and stabbing a officer .
Saves the human rights fcukers having a platform and brief fees and also leaves a bed not taken in the crammed prisons .
-
The Met Police haven't confirmed it so we don't know who did it. Didn't this just happen in Berlin last year? And then the attacker got away but because there was so much hysteria surrounding the wrong suspect, the manhunt was severely hindered and the attacker went on the run for days?
-
In the statement I saw from the Mayor he said, like the Met, it was being treated as a terrorist attack. Not that it was one.
I've made my point, I'll leave it at that, as ultimately people hear what they want to hear.
Whatever has happened though, this is a very, very sad day for this country.

Seems like some people are desperate for people to be offended about it so they can in turn be offended that people are offended.

It must be a terror attack as likes of William hills ladbrooks sky bet etc etc have closed all books on it been terror related ,and the bookies are never wrong

As I say, desperate for someone to be offended by the shooting.

That's generally how these things start. PIRA started in order to defend the catholic community from Ian Paisley and his like who were burning them out of house and home. the Mau Mau who had the best recruitment tool ever with the way they were put down in kenya. I could keep going.

The name mentioned on twitter, last night his solicitor said he was still in jail, this morning they are saying they haven't spoken to him since January 2016 in court
-
I'm in London currently with three family members and was at a play at the Globe theatre when this happened. A British teen was next to me and kept us updated on the events and it was very terrifying. I was also getting info from the US on what at was happening here. Once exiting the theatre, the police presence was overwhelming and we thanked them as we passed by.
We avoided the tube and took cabs for the rest of the night and remained vigilant when walking. At one point we popped into a pub where everyone was carrying on as usual as I was particularly upset whereas my sisters in law were calmer.
What I'm finding interesting this morning is that instead of running down sidewalks of tourist crowds the terrorist chose the less crowded bridge and went for Parliament, where he was sure to be apprehended fairly quickly as was thankfully the case, and my thoughts and prayers for those killed and injured. At this point they are also referring to "Islamic inspired terrorism" and wondering is this could be more Brexit related? Just a thought as the verbiage is very carefully worded. But this remains to be seen.
In the meantime, we will just carry on with eyes open. It's actually easier being here now because I know if we had not yet arrived, the unknown would be more terrifying. The police presence is very reassuring.

.... I think as a society that is what we all will have to endure ad infinitum. We simply cant stop living and worry about what might happen although I have reduced my Flights to the US to nil. Thats the problem with society today as far too many glow worms think they know all about police operations or how they should work.
They will watch and pick out so called faults or wrong doings within the police as in most cases we never real have to deal with police in really serious situations.
But got forbid something happens to a family member or a close friend and the police are needed to solve whatever then the said glow worms need the police and never second guess.

Another thing that hasn't been said, but you've got irked at.

Over the centuries, this country has been attacked by bigger and nastier enemies than the piece of shit who committed this. And you know what? We've seen the fcuckers off each and every time. I hope the bas**rd burns in hell.
I work with quite a number of Muslims and whenever something like this goes off they know that the chances of them being abused or attacked increases significantly so it puts them in fear too. At work they're always very quick to condemn these acts as they feel that they're having to apologise for the actions of a complete lunatic. Quite sad really.

Are you my internet stalker mr syme ,as you seem to just about jump on every reply I post .
If I don't post for a few days would you suffer withdrawing symptons .

Hi DW,
Yes, we had made plans to come ooop north for the match. 4 yank women! Sadly the day AFTER I bought the train tix, they decided to move the match to Sunday - on the day we are leaving so we can't even watch on tv. Tears, but as always a huge thanks to Rob as we were planning to meet up with him for the match. I do usually try to coordinate my trips with matches and it's always great fun to come up north on the train and meeting up with Rob and many of you all, so this was very disappointing.
But please feel free to come to the US though. Trump is mentally ill we believe, so hopefully justice and sanity will prevail. Well fingers crossed anyway.
Thanks so much for your kind words and we will be sure to enjoy the rest of our our trip despite the sad events.
P.S. If anyone would like 4 free tix from London Kings X to Donny and back on Sat, please IM me.

I have to ask this about the Muslim community ,but why are they not taking to the streets in great numbers across Europe in whatever city to demonstrate against such incidents as yesterday .
The tide will only turn when the muslims start to get their house cleaned up not western governments
-
I tend to agree with Brendan Cox on this "the Westminster attacker represents British Muslims no more than Jo Cox's killer represents Yorkshire."
-
To be fair they do mate. It's just perhaps not documented and publicised much. In August 2016 over 30,000 Muslims took part in a convention in Hampshire to demonstrate their rejection of terrorism and extremism. The President of the convention said:
"We have much to be grateful for in Britain which has allowed our community to prosper and contribute to British life for over 100 years. We count ourselves proud to call ourselves British Ahmadi Muslims."

Don't bother mate. Whatever Muslims do to condemn atrocities like this will never be enough for those who don't want to listen to them but would rather keep on demanding on online messageboards that they do 'something' so as to make it look like all Muslims are somehow complicit in, or at the very least condone, the atrocities.

They do. Publicly and privately. They also provide support for victims of terror attacks, financially through charity and emotionally. And the Muslim community at large is a key part of keeping security forces informed which has kept this country safe from Islamic terrorists for a long time until yesterday's attack.
Not that people like you would notice even if they held a candlelight vigil in your front room.

Proof, if it were needed, is here. This is just one way that Muslims in London are doing their bit.
https://www.launchgood.com/project/muslims_united_for_london#/ (https://www.launchgood.com/project/muslims_united_for_london#/)
Frankly, we need to stop referring to this person (and those he may or may not have been working with) as Muslim. He wasn't a Muslim. He was a British-born radicalised* terrorist.
*I am making a (small) leap with 'radicalised'. 'Terrorist' would suffice.

* What a "bugger" - and another example of TV taking over the world / dictating how they want things - to the detriment of anyone who has done a bit of forward planning. Held against the recent events its a minor inconvenience of course but b****y annoying all the same
** Trump is certainly like my Jumper / Jersey - a weird fish but he would not deter me from my US Trips, but I am probably not following my own advice and staying away from Transatlantic Flights although statistically they are safe beyond reasonable measure !
*** What a very nice gesture. I hope someone takes you up on that AND throws in a few Pounds Sterling too
Enjoy the rest of the stay and I will give a 50% louder cheer for each significant moment on Sunday on your behalf Cheers JT

There's even a handy list of things that Muslims have condemned, for those of you that think that they should be doing more condemning. It's called the 'Worldwide Muslims Condemn List': https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1e8BjMW36CMNc4-qc9UNQku0blstZSzp5FMtkdlavqzc/edit#gid=0 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1e8BjMW36CMNc4-qc9UNQku0blstZSzp5FMtkdlavqzc/edit#gid=0)

I trust you apply that logic to all acts of terrorism, and that because there aren't worldwide demonstrations against the acts of the Real IRA that that means all Christians are either complicit or condone their actions?
-
Yeah, you must have missed these headlines:
'Christians Bomb London/Manchester/Brighton' 'Christian in Terror Attack on Quebec Mosque' and 'Christian slaughters 77 and injures 319 in Norwegian Terror Attack'.
Admittedly, it's easy to miss headlines that would never, ever be written. Can't think why...

Spent a large chunk of last year working and living in London. Didn't feel safe at all down there.
Out of interest, where were you working and living at that time? I've lived in various places in SW London for 8 of the last 9 years, and worked at (amongst others) Blackfriars, Canary Wharf, Soho, Oxford St, Battersea and Hammersmith. At no point have I felt any less safe than I would in Doncaster, Leeds or anywhere else. Admittedly, I wouldn't go looking for trouble after dark in some of the rougher areas in eg Peckham or Tottenham, but likewise I wouldn't do that in the dodgier areas in Doncaster. I think it's harsh to judge the whole of London as "unsafe", even after yesterday's events.

Other than Trump I've not seen anyone suggest that
-
I believe it is trying to make the broader point that we shouldn't stigmatise an entire religion or race based on the action(s) of a small group of hate-filled shits. Though I did see Farage suggesting that we should better vet who comes into our country... Of course, that wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference given that the attacker was born in Kent. Maybe we should vet who goes in and out of the home counties more thoroughly?
-
Even better just build a big wall around Home Counties and get someone else to pay for it
-
Other than Trump I've not seen anyone suggest that
As one of the dead was an American tourist, will that mean the UK will now get added to the list of countries whose citizens' travel to the US he wants to disrupt for no apparent reason whatsoever?
-
Looks like it was very well planned or coincidence.
A French national of North African origin has been arrested in the Belgian city of Antwerp on suspicion of driving at a crowd, officials say.
A car was driven "at high speed" on De Meir, the northern city's main shopping street, before it was intercepted. There were no reports of any injuries.
Knives, a non-lethal gun and some unidentifiable liquid were found in the car, prosecutors say.
Belgian PM Charles Michel praised the authorities for an "outstanding job".
The attack comes a day after a car was driven at high speed along London's Westminster Bridge, hitting many people, before the driver got out and entered the grounds of Parliament. He was killed after fatally stabbing a police officer there. Two other people died and 40 were injured in the attack.

It was also the day Belgium marked the first anniversary of the twin bomb attacks in Brussels, that killed 32 people and wounded more than 300.
Rapid response
The car was spotted at around 11:00 (10:00 GMT), Antwerp police chief Serge Muyters said.
"The vehicle was driving at high speed on De Meir," he said. "Our army colleagues spotted it and tried to bring the vehicle to a halt.
"But the driver broke free and drove through the red light towards the port quays."

Police were contacted, he said, and immediately sent a rapid response team, intercepting the vehicle and driver.
"The suspect, a man of North African origin, was immediately arrested," he said.
The federal prosecutor's office, which has taken over the investigation, named the suspect as "Mohamed R", a 39-year-old French national and resident of France.
"Different arms were found in the boot - bladed weapons, a riot gun and a container of liquid that is still unidentifiable," the prosecutor's statement also said.
An army bomb disposal unit was sent to the scene to inspect the vehicle.

Well at least this family know we are not animals in this country.
Sadly tho
A Romanian woman who fell into the Thames during the Westminster terror attack has died, police have said.
Andreea Cristea is the fifth victim of the attack on 22 March, in which Khalid Masood drove into crowds on Westminster Bridge then stabbed a policeman to death, before being shot dead himself.
Ms Cristea, who was on holiday with boyfriend Andrei Burnaz, had been in hospital since the attack.
Her family said in a statement that she had died on Thursday.
The statement said: "After fighting for her life for over two weeks, our beloved and irreplaceable Andreea - wonderful daughter, sister, partner, dedicated friend and the most unique and life loving person you can imagine - was cruelly and brutally ripped away from our lives in the most heartless and spiritless way.
"She will always be remembered as our shining ray of light that will forever keep on shining in our hearts."
The family said they would now like money donated for Ms Cristea's recovery to be donated to charity.
"There are no words to even begin to describe the crushing pain and emptiness that is left in our hearts," they continued.
"Our family, together with Andrei, are deeply touched and eternally grateful for the unimaginable efforts and never-ending dedication provided to her and us by the entire medical personnel of each and every hospital involved. Their kindness and empathy are beyond compare."
