Title: The 5-1 at Grimsby
Post by: andysly on April 07, 2017, 04:29:57 am
I've been at so many memorable games it's almost impossible to reel them all off. It's been done on other threads, from the 7-5 v Reading, 1-0 v QPR, Bruno's winner at Wigan to the more contemporary wins at Derby (first match in Championship) beating Leeds at Wembley and many many more.
All these will, and have lasted long in the memory. That win at Grimsby will still be talked about by the younger fans in 30 years time, and discussed on platforms like this.
The scenes at the end with players, management & fans all celebrating as one was something else, this is a great little club and that togetherness will take us a long way.  :rtid:

If rovers go up as champions ( which looks that way ) then the grimsby game as you pointed out will go into rovers most talked about games over the years.

With the rivers crowd been 1800 at BP for the game ,give it 5 years or so and the amount of fans claiming that they was at the game would have gone up  tenfold.

I remember another game at Grimsby much better. We went there on the final day of the season in 1979. Grimsby had already won promotion and the Big Match cameras turned up to see them celebrate and smash Donny. Jack Lewis scored a hat-trick in a 4-3 win for us.

I was at that 4-3 as well but IMO last Saturday was far better.

I was also at the 4-3 but spent most of it looking over my shoulder to avoid getting punched
