Title: Tomorrow
Post by: mushRTID on April 07, 2017, 12:47:44 pm
Tomorrow will hopefully be the the 5th promotion i have seen in 16 seasons since I first went to watch an average conference side in late 2001 after getting free tickets from college.

Add in 3 relegations and a cup win, there cant be many clubs with so many ups and down's in such a short space of time?

I know we all like a moan but can you imagine supporting an Oldham or someone equally as dull? I wouldnt swap it for anything.

Buzzing for tomorrow.  :scarf:

You can add the two promotions in the early 80s to that list for me too.

.... OR Rochdale ..... what a space there will be on their Honours Board. You are right, some moan but I cant complain !

Rochdale ....Formed in 1907 and nicknamed the Dale, they were accepted into the Football League in 1921. Since then, the club has remained in the bottom two professional divisions of English Football.

The team has only achieved promotion three times – in 1969 *, 2010 and 2014. Rochdale attract a small, but loyal fanbase. With a hardcore following of around 3000 home fans on average per match. Local fixtures however attract a considerably higher turnout.

* Hard luck - Runners up to the Champs Doncaster R-o-v-e-r-s !!!

The promotions certainly outway the relegation s. We will be stronger in league one next season for having been relegated!

Totally agree, it has been quite a ride these last two decades.

I'll never regret asking my dad if I could go with him to the Rovers when we moved to Cantley in 1999.

Not to mention Wembley, the Millenium, and The Conf Play off, even the FA trophy? back in the Conf days, and all wins. The cups full of sugar that help with the medicine of going down. There could be a song in that...

I posted this link a bit back but worth looking at to see how we compare in the ups and downs stakes.

I think this article adds in the conf and early 1900's, and 1923 movements too, and there's a relegation and this years promotion to add, so that puts us equal with Birmingham.

I remember going g to Rochdale in 68/69 season we almost filled the ground, we drew 0-0but had a goal disallowed ref said it was cleared off the line but the ball hit the back of the net and bounced out again as the net was not very deep and pulled tight

Definitely prefer the roller coaster ride that is Rovers to mid table boredom every year. My life wouldn't be complete without that day at Brentford, Wembley, Stoke, Wolves in our first championship season, and yes, Grimsby last week - cracking day! Why would anyone want to support any other team??

Remember us getting relegated from the old 2nd division in the late 50s when in my late teens and thinking it was the end of the world. But I wouldn't have swapped all that's gone on since for a gold pig! And there's still more to come.

I remember that game, I got stuck at the back and being such a little fella I saw very little of the game. Ended up climbing up the asbestos sheeting at the back of the stand.

We were right behind the goal and couldn't believe what we saw or the ref didn't see.
Wasn't it Pancho Regan or did he. Just appeal for the goal?

We couldn't believe it. A good job that we didn't lose.
