Didn't Ferguson say last week he was hoping to have most of his signings done by this Friday. Idd say there's not much chance of that happening with it now being Wednesday evening. Hopefully with out of contract players becoming free agents tomorrow, we might see some new arrivals.
-
Can only hope he's got them all tied up but not announced anything yet. Just have to wait and see.

He did, he also has said nothing since..JM was all signed up directly at end of season but has not done so yet. I think he learned these tactics from his old man, who did not do badly.
-
He has got to inform the silver members forst
-
Yes Dave
I saw that too, that really will get people to part with £150.......
-
It's almost as if Fergie doesn't have to reveal all of his dealings and negotiations with the public as he does it.
-
Well lets hope we have a silver member among us that will spill the beans.

Silver membership is a standard Season Ticket. Silver Plus is the 150 quid extra thing you're referring to.

Yep Forst is code for Mr Frost.... he will reveal everything.
-
The club announced that they will inform Silver members about transfer news via email before announcing on the DRFC site.
-
By there's some moaning barstewards on here. 8 weeks before panic needs to step in. Oh if you want to know first buy a silver membership and sto whining
-
We'll see what happens tomorrow. I suspect any news will be in the public domain before many of us Silver Surfers will have had chance to read our e-mails.
It's all a bit of a gimmick, although nice to receive the transfer news directly, it wouldn't inspire me to buy a Silver membership if I didn't already have one.
I may be a bit greedy, but I'm hoping for more than one announcement. Watch this space!
-
Reminder, must check my emails tomorrow(cannot wait)
-
I'm a season ticket holder again now but didn't even give them my e-mail address, so I guess I'll just have to find out ten minutes later like every other layman.

Oh in that case when they e mail me I will feel very honored I will be impotent. Yes I spelled it right

1 have been told DF is on holiday so I don't think we will here about any signings this week.
-
Well, if at least one signing is in the bag, it doesn't need DF's presence to announce it.
Now the club has prepared us to receive e-mail notifications, it will be bad form to raise our expectations if there is nothing in the offing.
-

that's fine but if one did put it on here someone would stick it in the rumours bin
-
It's Gavins and the chairman's job to sign players DF just tells them which players he wants

As I said previously, a lot of money to receive an e-mail...Sales talk just to sell season tickets, it is getting a bit over the top now for my mind and if DF is on holiday why spout dates and deals will be announced when there is no intention of doing so....

I was a STH for the nine seasons before last and getting an early email wouldn't have made me feel any better than other supporters.
Does this now make fans that aren't STHs feel less valued though?
-
It isn't me who has profiled the Silver membership but I DO certainly agree with you. There should be no select group at all, to be honest it would never work because someone who may get a mail will open it to all, Sales Gimmick and I am getting fed up of it. Just like all of us on this site ten times a day to see of any news.
-
Mick the club don't put enough on other than selling stuff in closed season. Mansfield do a weekly managers interview but for the week fatty is on his hols, most clubs put things on there site once a day to keep people interested or they go off the boil

No

Dave, I was told towards the end of the season when the final tribute was going to be paid to all our lost loved ones and fellow Rovers supporters, that the club would not mention it as they did not wish to use (quite rightly to I may add) the now deceased supporters to sell more tickets, I cannot put it in any ways other than that, they did not wish to detract from the deceased supporters and at the same time push sales of ST, I was alos told that if enough st were sold then the owners would believe that the public are behind the club and release DF the funds he needs. If a poor sales record on Season Tickets were sold the it would be a make do season....From the Club and neither will I divulge who said it. BUT we are now in June and the club appear to still want more Silver Members and using the early notification of signings, I got my season ticket and daughters before the end of the season, as we were sailing to the title, knowing that I would not be able to get to about half the games, but I put my money in as all of you others have, I do feel a little mift to be honest.

Weekly?, they will have been having daily interviews with their early signings, currently totalling 11. 11 out and 11 in and its now just into June - not bad going that!
-
Will be a signing today according to Liam Hoden

I think it's great if you achieve success by signing anything and everything in sight! I'm not sure that's a tried and tested method.
Where we are concerned, I'd prefer us to pursue quality over quantity and there's absolutely no need for us to have everything done yet. Two confirmed is a good start, more to come over the next month I'd expect.
-
Two? who's the other? or is that including Mason?
-
Yes it does he was on loan now he is ours
-

Yes, if my memory serves me correctly Mason has been confirmed.
-
I'm not suggesting we even attempt to go down the Mansfield route, Jon, far from it. But then, the manager did commit himself somewhat by saying he wanted to get the business done early. The higher you go up the pyramid, that is less likely to happen, purely because you need to secure the 'right' sort of player.
We now seem to be approaching another lull period where nothing much will happen.
I've been thinking about our numbers whilst there's nothing much doing and, I must admit, things don't seem quite right. We have released 5 initially, including 2 midfielders, and have put a further 5 on the transfer list, which includes another midfielder. Out of the presumed 5 we are bringing in, we are reportedly going to be signing 3 midfielders - Mason is the first. The 2nd is likely to be the lad from Sheff U and the 3rd reputed to be a young lad from the Premier League.
So, we'll have McCullough, Mason, Copps, Rowe plus 2 more loanees. Unless I've forgotten someone, We're going to be light on numbers in midfield. Yes, we have Beestin, etc, but they will be part of the Dev squad next season, surely. We need another one in there, hopefully Houghton.
With another CB on board, we will be ok in defence, and with the other possible loaned striker, we'll have cover up top, assuming John signs his extension.
It's obviously going to depend on the movement, or otherwise, of the 5 transfer listed players.
-
Why all the fuss about getting an e.mail from the club on new players signed? Who cares so long as we get details of the new players signed.
-
It was the club who tried to make a fuss of it.
-
Free Press saying DF wants to firm up 3 additional signings this week, including a permanent centre half from a prem club, plus midfielder and striker.

It's of a slight concern to me that we seem intent on relying significantly on the loan market. We've released and transfer listed a number of players. Whilst not all of them need directly replacing, it's important to build our own squad.
Whiteman will arrive on loan, and according to the article the other midfielder and striker will also be on loan. They may be good players, but they're positions in our squad that are in need of filling and bringing players in on loan only rolls the issue forward to another transfer window.

It seems that this could be a better way financially , to loan better players than commit contracts to players who may not work out , as we need to be more competitive with strength in depth in the squad.
-
And if they do work out (although unlikely in Whiteman's case I'd have thought) there could be provisions for a permanent deal in place in the loan arrangement for all we know.
-
It's worked ok in the case of Mason, and let's hope it could be the same for Houghton (fingers and toes crossed).
-
Personally I think loans are a great way of assessing a player - try before you buy if you like
Loan players also are there to impress either their parent club manager and or the team they are playing for manager
Have to make sure they fit in also
Chance that parent club assists with wages too
-
Dont all lower league clubs have five or six loan players most of the time.
It seems to have gone that way over the last few seasons.
-
To get the level of players to compete in league one will cost money whether permanent or loan. We will still be paying 5 transfer listed players until they leave. So loans are the best way to go intially if the 5 players manage to find other clubs we could use their wages to bring in maybe two or three better players.
-
It might be worth mentioning that it worked exceedingly well for Huddersfield last season!
-
And Blackpool to get them into the PL.
-
I think it would be difficult for most lower league teams to compete without loan players.
-
I'm not suggesting we do without loan players, I think it's a great way of adding a bit of exceptional quality or covering an injury.
What I wouldn't like (and I appreciate this is a personal preference) is to have the core of the team on loan. That's just my view. I hated the short termism and lack of identity of the infamous 'experiment.'
-
I think most fans would have disliked that period johnathan.
However, in recent years we have had quite a few loan players in the team.
-
Loan players have served us well and gone on to sign permanently over the years. Sure, there's also been some duck eggs but better than signing duck eggs permanently from the off.
Well, I've never known it so quiet on the rumours front. We haven't got a clue have we who these new players might be have we?
-
Hopefully business being conducted behind the scenes in the right way and not a case of "well I gave you the pen to look after"
