Not good at predicting a starting 11. So what's your thoughts. It also looks to me like DF will be trying to go all and win games and he will be prepared to concede quite a few goals. After all you have to score goals to win games in this game.
-
Depends if he wants to play 4 or 5 at the back.
-
I've a feeling Fergie will go 3-5-2 with the wing backs this Saturday.
Lawlor
Wright butler Andrews
Blair coppinger whiteman kongolo Rowe
Marquis mandeville
-
My guess would be
Lawlor
Alcock. Butler. Mason
Blair. Andrews
Kongolo
Coppinger. Rowe
Marquis. Mandenville
-
Mason Butler Alcock
Blair Copps Whiteman Rowe Andrews
Mandeville Marquis
-
Or if he plays 442...
Blair Butler Wright Stevens
Whiteman
Dave. . Rowe
Copps
Mandy. Marquis
-
Playing with no keeper then !!
-

Blair Butler Wright Stevens
Whiteman
Dave. . Rowe
Copps
Mandy. Marquis
Stevens?

i would be a tad dissappointed if he didnt go out to win games?

Some managers don't.

Kongolo only trained with team the first time today. He is right diamond player so partially competing with Copps.

He's also a box to box player too apparently and with copps sitting behind the strike force linking play up last year, I just think Fergie will play them together.
I get he's only trained for first time today too but just a feeling he will play.
-
I think
3-3-1-3
Lawlor
Mason
Wright
Butler
Blair
Kangolo
Andrews
Copps
Mandeville
Marquis
Rowe

Lighten up.
On topic, I think he'll play 3-5-2. If he does, here's the XI I'll expect:
Lawlor
Blair
Alcock
Butler
Mason
Andrew
Whiteman
Coppinger
Rowe
Mandeville
Marquis
Kongolo, Ben Khemis on the bench to ease them in a little bit. Plus I think if he plays 3 in the centre he'll prefer Coppinger to Kongolo for now.
-
Think you have to go with wright, we will be in trouble every ball in the box with Alcock and mason
-
Kongolo and Whiteman will start, I doubt their parent clubs have loaned them out to bench warm
-
I think
3-3-1-3
Lawlor
Mason
Wright
Butler
Blair
Kangolo
Andrews
Copps
Mandeville
Marquis
Rowe
That's a new formation on me!

Kongolo is very unlikely to start if we play three centre halves.

I don't think we will

I don't think we will
I'm not a massive fan of 3 centre halves at this level because I think you need better, more intelligent players to play the system than you tend to find in the 3rd or 4th division. I do think we have been at our best this pre season when we have been set up like that though. I'm sure Fergie has noticed this as well.
-
Don't forget Blair may be a doubt due to his recent bereavement. If so, possibly Mason will play right wing back.
-

I hope that isn't a stipulation within the deals. They're not our players and we shouldn't be under any obligation to shoe horn them into our team. They should be selected on merit and on the basis that the team / system within which they'll operate is suitably balanced for the game.

Not Matty Blair?

Fair enough I just can see him playing them both but we shall see Saturday

I agree with you Jonathan but usually it is a stipulation unless injured
-
Appears that all Gillingham's 5/6 new signings were to add height and strength in the back line so WRIGHT may be chosen ahead of ALCOCK to help counter that threat at corners and crosses .
-
Fergie wouldn't agree to having players that had guarantees they had to start.

This.

Kongolo is a central midfielder and can play the defensive position, as per Houghton. At 6' 2", he is the tallest midfielder we have had for some time and I'd want him in there. So, for me:
Lawlor
Blair
Alcock (or Mason)
Butler
Andrew
Kongolo (Dave)
Copps, Whiteman, Rowe
Marquis
Mandeville (or Williams)
-
We've got options!!! Why was everyone panicking??
-
Re the loans, I'm guessing there won't be such a stipulation in longer term loans so DF likely to use his discretion, although I think Whiteman will be the more certain of the two. He also has the height and is a good header of the ball.
-
Dave is taller!

I think that's the nearest with possibly Mason for Blair with Alcock in. Still think Whiteman will play the holding role but either way, I'll be happy with that!
-
Kante is the best midfielder in the country and he's 4'6. Heights irrelevant.
-
We're talking about defending set pieces!
-
Dave is taller!
He might jump like Leo Fortune-West though. Only player I've seen with sunglasses on the bottom of his boots :coat:
-
whatever side Fergie starts with its going to be backed up with a strong bench, Hold on it could be a roller coaster ride.
-
Hope he doesn't go 5 at the back. Got us relegated trying to play with it last time in this division and we didn't get going last season until he played 4 at the back. You have to have better players than we have to successfully play a 3-5-2

Surely the "5 at the back" is a typo.
Did you mean three.
-
Don't even think Fergie will really know what his best 11 is right now but I'll guarantee he wants all 3 points and same the fact if it means letting 3 in we will just go and score 4
-
One good point is that if we can't pick the team there's no way Gillingham can so they will not know how to set up against us. I know this works in reverse also. Looking forward to it should be a very exciting
game can't wait.
-
i would go with for this game
LAWLOR
BLAIR WRIGHT BUTLER ANDREWS
WHITEMAN
DAVE ROWE
COPPS
MANDY MARQUIS
-
I would have William's in place of Mandeville
-
Probable: 4-4-2 - Lawlor; Blair, Wright, Butler, Andrew; Mason, Whiteman, Coppinger, Rowe; Mandeville, Marquis
-
No idea - possibly:
Lawlor
Mason, Butler, Wright, Andrew
Blair, Whiteman, Kongolo, Rowe
Copps
Marquis
A bench that includes: Marosi, Alcock, Khemis, May (if he's not suspended), Beestin, Mandeville and Williams perhaps?
But that could all change when Kongolo's Man City defender bud and Houghton arrive later today/before midday tomorrow! Lol
