Recall going to Batley when the dons played there for a very important RL fixture for the dons yonks back.
Must have been early 1980s and the dons won .

Little Plough sell Barnsley Bitter @ 2.40 + 2 other real ales
Draughtsman sell 5 or 6 but i've never paid less than 3.10 for any of them

I live in Batley. Didn't know there were any other Donny fans there!
-
I work there. Fortunately I get away again every night...

It's a gym now I believe.
-
BVC used to be owned by Gymmy Corrigan so come full circle eh ? :coat:
-
It's the Batley Frontier that's now a gym. Is that the one you were thinking of, Hoola?
-
Batley Variety club became the Frontier club in the early 80's.
-
Some old soak at work says taxi to South elmsall then buy a £7.80 day rover. But stay in west yorks
-
I did it last week Stalybridge and Greenhill weren't worth the effort . And I had too much to drink but stuck to real ale and no hangover! Too much for me is 14 pints 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

I do in Birstall
-
Truck ,I recall the days when I could neck 14 or more pints in a goood session .
I struggle with 3 today ,and for sure sure if I go over 5 Iam spewing my ring up .
I honestly think that the most strict Muslim can down more pints than me in a seesion today ,and for sure I seem to neck far more pints of noggy milk than ale.

Must be an age thing, though I must admit beers is a lot stronger these days.
-
Yes .... a lot of the Beers brewed are stronger on average than their counterparts of "yesteryear" and mostly you cant tell other than reading the Pump Clip.
I was drinking an Axholme Beer which was very nice a while back (Little Signal Box Cleethorpes) and was half way down it when I looked at the Pump Clip and it was 8.2 or 8.3 and I said to the Man that runs it - that cant be right 8.2 - really ?
Yes he said it is. Well I had the rest of the Pint and a second one and my Plan to go back to Caravan and drive to nearest Chippy less than half a mile was "blown". I was ratted tbh
-
8.2 % thats like Tennants, carlsberg, orange bloom shite wot you see in the hands of the hard core street drinkers. Was it sweet, they usually are at that strength.

No that was my point - a lot of Bitter type beers are being brewed which give no "clue" when you taste them that they are really strong alcohol wise.
This was a Barnsley Bitter type style and "taste" but there was no way I would have been potty enough to drive after 2 !
-
Carlsberg Elephant beer 7.2% is lovely. I am sure that a lot of the German stuff is more than 5%.
-
Lots and lots of German Beer is 5% and more - and the Belgian stuff also ups the strengths too with Leffe Blonde at 6.6 and its stable mates much more
I got to 150 different Belgian Beers and as high as 12% which was almost undrinkable - far too strong tasting. Dubuison Bush it was - seared on my memory but cant spell it !
