So what do we do about North Korea...THey are racing towards the end achievement of being a nuclear power and nothing is seeming to make them even pause there aims.. threats, sanctions, offers of talks or even the Chinese diplomacy hasn't made a jot of difference and they are racing towards the stage when nothing can be done....
I'm sure if it was solely up to Trump, the bombers would already be in the air and if it was solely down to Corbyn he would be writing a pretty stiff letter asking them for tea and buns...
Given that the vast majority of us don't fancy some crazy loon to have the ability to obliterate the world if he gets out of bed the wrong side..What should the world do???
I've got to admit, normally I've got an opinion on what should be done but on this I'm scared of all the options..A military strike runs the risk of war both from NK and the Chinese...Sanctions don't work though and they wont want to talk while everything is going to there plan..??? Anybody got a plan..?
-
For me the key is getting China and Russia fully onboard and Trump to stop being a dick and work with those two Countries in the interests of world peace. Cutting all fuel supplies to NK would be a start
-
Trump will be biding his time, waiting for North Korea to strike first, thus giving him free reign to do what he wants in retaliation.
-
You see Filo that's the problem, the Russians will never be fully onside because it's a cold war foe problem...They will use it to their advantage the same way USA would in reverse roles...
The Chinese similar, there rhetoric to NK isn't strong enough and I doubt it ever will be,they are playing both sides...Cutting oil is a solution but wont happen because while officially the Chinese are agreeing to Sanctions all the evidence suggests trade is happening as normal with them...
-
Trump will be biding his time, waiting for North Korea to strike first, thus giving him free reign to do what he wants in retaliation.
Then he is a fool NK has no intention of striking first...They don't want war they want the Nuclear bomb, they are goading the USA basically saying if you want to stop us then you make the first move, banking on the Chinese risk to negate that while they continue on their way to they achieve their nuclear ambition...

The problem is, everytime the international community does nothing the little fat boy with no mates thinks he can get away with a bit more. At some point it has to end, and that end game is a conflict wether we like it or not
-
The thought of this going into a nuclear conflict is frightening beyond belief.
-
it is Hound I agree...I see today the South are saying they are seeing evidence of another North Balistic missile test imminent...If they do and pop that over Japan again...I fear the worst...

It's whether China really want to get involved. Do they want to risk all out nuclear war, or turn a blind eye to what happens.
-
I noticed that it was reported in the press the other day that Kim the leader of NK has a so called secret son tucked away in NK out of public eye.
Question is if fat boy Kim was taken out with a bullet to his head ,who else would need to be taken out alongside him to prevent a like minded family member or close by loon that would step in to run the country on the same path and terms as today.
-
I stand with North Korea in their endeavour against the fascist AmeriKKKa.

As they are a bunch of lefties, there are those on here who would no doubt say that therefore they're just shandy-drinking, nancy, lily-livered, namby-pamby, powder puff, do-gooder, snowflake jessies and nothing to worry about.
After all, all lefties are the same, aren't they?

How many South Koreans do you think he'll be happy to sacrifice when he retaliates?

It depends what the retaliation is.
It's more likely to be a conventional aerial bombing campaign than nuclear - at least to begin with, in which case there will be no South Korean collateral.
-
How much actual evidence is there that they are anywhere near being able to produce Nuclear Weapons?? How much of this is getting blown out of proportion by the media??
-
So Glyn just out of interest...What do you think should be the way forward...???

Well the nuclear test at the weekend tells you they can create the explosion itself, the ballistic missile tests prove they have the delivery system..So the only thing in question is how far away they are from miniaturising it to fit...So either the photo of kim standing next to his warhead was false and it was filled with foam or they are still working on it...Either way the timescales are short...
-
So Glyn just out of interest...What do you think should be the way forward...???
Whichever way is it is, it's got to be with the full agreement of the South Koreans. They're the ones who are in the direct firing line.
Long-term, you have to work with the Chinese, they're the ones who can effectively pressure NK.
Trump acting like it's only and solely down to him to act unilaterally really isn't helping.

So you don't think the NKs would be able to fire off any one of the hundreds of missiles permanently pointed at South Korea at all?
-
NK has its hands on a very very dangerous infact the most dangerous nerv agent known to man todate.
Think it's called VX or something .
They used this stuff when two girls took out a North Korean called Kim whatever at a Malaysian airport.
They snoook up behind him and wiped his face with said dangerous chemical stuff.
Bloke died sometime after the attack.
They could stick that stuff into a weapon and fire it off to cause havoc I guess.
the sooner this idiot Kim and his like minded sect are taken out via whatever means the better for all I guess.
All those idiots that thing that this kim chap is a run of the mill chap and is not a threat due to this and that ,would you feal so secure if you lived in South Korea .

There isn't a long term option Glynn it will be too late by then and the Chinese would have to be 100% committed for that to work and it's pretty obvious with there rhetoric and booming trade between the two countries that they are far from that...The Chinese are playing both sides surely that's obvious to all...
-
Above all else the Chinese want stability, that's what they're committed to 100%.
It's bad enough that there's one unpredictable element in this mess, Trump making it two unpredictable elements really isn't helping.
-
I cant agree with you Glynn....Your hanging your hat on a Chinese utopia that simply isn't there...They simply are not commited enough to put the required pressure on the North Koreans..
North Koreas actions surely must give you a clue as to how much they fear Chinese intervention??
-

I think Trump has handled it pretty well. Clinton would probably have already started military action by now.

Sorry but how is he?
Another thing to consider... if North Korea collapses and the Korean peninsula is unified, they'll potentially have American troops on their doorstep, which they might not be too keen on.
-
The Chinese today have said they are not prepared to cut there own throat as regards a total trade ban with the North Koreans...Therefore they cannot or wont put the required amount of pressure on NK to halt there persuit of Nuclear Missiles....So that isn't going to lead to a solution...The North Korean actions are designed to drive a wedge between the USA and China because they know China is only going to go so far...
As for NK collapsing...Nobody should be looking for regime change...But he cant be allowed to achieve his aim of possessing nuclear weapons surely???
-
What Ching news last night a report on the main bridge into NK from China, the entire place was in darkness, they can't even affford the lekky bill let alone a war.

What? Just because they don't want to toe the line regarding Trump's ridiculous trade bluster you extrapolate that they're doing nothing and that nor do they have the resolve to do anything?
-
Don't Japan have a say in all this as it's their country that the last missile was fired across into the sea ,as they had the right to blast said missile right out of the sky since it was in their air space .
Find it odd that I don't see nowt on the news about the japs fealings in this .

'The required amount of pressure', being what exactly WC? Do you really think the Chinese (and Russians) and jumping up and down in joy at the prospect of a nuclear war on their borders?
When we discussed this two or three weeks ago I said there were three options:
1 Wait for NK to launch a first strike and then retaliate - with the probable massive loss of life in, North Korea Japan and South Korea
2 Launch a first strike on a nuclear power and hope you have hit enough of their munitions to minimise the deaths in Japan and South Korea if not North Korea - but risk contaminating and/or civilian deaths in China & Russia and the escalation from there
3 Diplomacy
The North Koreans are supposed to have enough material for 50 nuclear bombs if that helps.

I bet my last $$$$ that there are body's within NK or living outside of NK that would be more than happy to run the country in a far more good neighbours way.
Take out kim with a bullet to his head and other close by like minded or follow on family that would rule the same way.
Hand over country to those that can see today how badly the country is run by way it treats many of its nationals with slopping out time etc etc.
NK took out one of Kim's possible thorns in his side in that Malaysian airport incident so live by the sword die by the sword.

As far as Iam aware there are no Muslim nut jobs in North Korea ,infact Iam sure that NK dont cling onto any religion in huge numbers.
One that most of North Koreans don't get access to is outside world via internet etc etc.those that have jumped ship from NK across to SK and beyond seem to have woke up and smelt the coffee.
The North Koreans that have smelt the coffee is where the next leaders of the country are once kim and his close quarters have all taken head shots.
You can't have yank special forces in NK doing this as they would stick out like sore thumbs since they are all land of the giants against normall North Korean midget gems.hence you need special forces from South Korea to step in as they are all about the same size midget gems .
It was a good plan in Iraq and Libya too. Until it was carried out...

Yes there are people who would run the country 'in a more friendly way' - they are known as South Korea. They fought a war in the 50's which led to around 1.5 million casualties, 500000 dead, including 800 British and 55 000 US. That was in a conventional war.
You forget of course that the current regime are 'friendly'. To China. There is no way on earth that China would accept a regime that was 'friendly' to the west on their border.

You have a valid point about the kitchen sinks mr wilts .

No they haven't and no they wont. Nor will they send one to the US. To do so would see their country totally destroyed. What they are doing at the moment is demonstrating to the US that they have the technology to defend themselves and cause massive destruction should the US attempt regime change in NK.
As for what the US will do about it - depends who you listen to.

I went back and redeciphered what you wrote and that is indeed what you said. However, I can't see South Korea wanting to get involved as their capital city and major population centre is only thirty miles away from a massive arsenal of missiles permanently pointed at them.

10 years or so ago would anyone had ever thought that NK would have had the arsenal to be able to fire a missile into the sea and while doing it fire it over Japan .
What will NK be doing in another 10 years time to test the yanks hold I ask .
As setting off test missiles over Japan into close by sea won't be news anymore and hence not effective as a NK mind game.
They will have to do something a lot more close to the edge ,like sending a missile across Glynns roof too as he holds he is still holding his head in his hands and Missile lands in Atlantic Ocean .

Same as a jock is a person from Scotland aka sweaty sock.
Noggy is from Norway
Yank as in septic tank.
Mick as in Irish
Frog as in French
don't see nowt wrong with these terms what so ever and it's plums like yourself that get upset due to PC .

Glynn when this kim chap at NK orders the murder of another NK national becuase he was a threat to his rule of NK via the dangerous chemical agent known to man at the Malaysian airport incident with one hand > then with the other hand he is setting off misslies tests into the sea and threatening this and that > i for one take him seriously due those actions at the Malaysian airport.

Of course they do, but China are North Korea's biggest (probably only) ally and 90% of their trade is done in China so they could cripple them, but it'd have huge implications.

Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a world were you just say the word diplomacy and puff..Everythings sorted..You could go out have 12 pints come home to the misses covered in lipstick and say "diplomacy"..However back on planet Earth that only works when you have 2 party's who want to talk and resolve issues...NK don't want to talk, why would they?? This is all going perfectly for them..The can break international law every week with nuclear testing, throw missiles over another countries airspace at will and threaten USA,Guam and even Australia knowing that nobody's going to do a thing about it until they have their finished product... China would rather have a rogue nuclear power on it's borders than risk a friend of the West so we cant count on them for anything other than words and rhetoric..They wont even back a call for tighter sanctions it would seem....
One day and very soon a Crazy man will have his finger on the nuclear button,he wont have to go through protocols, command chains, advisors or procedures..It will be at his whim,he could have a mental breakdown and just do it and his Generals and their notebooks wont dare raise a word against him...That for me is to high a risk to the world and if he cant be brought to heel through the normal channels, then the military option although risky is the only alternative left on the table...
-
I know a man who has his finger on such a said button WC
He is fat and round bounces off the ground with a two bob haircut ,and it's not Sammy lee it's the Kim loon from NK.
He has proved to the world that he is a nut job by ordering that hit at a Malaysian airport on another NK called kim funny enough .
The two non North Korean girls that did the hit are due up in Malaysian courts soon on whatever charges as they both were trained and sent in by NK to do the hit.
Be interesting to hear what they have to say infront of the beak ,as NK is claiming it has bugger all to do with them .
Would not surprise me if some NK midget gems have been ordered to infiltrate Malaysia in attempt to take out the two girls in question before they stand up in court.
-
He is not on his own in that department though mate..Lets face it every major country in the world is not adverse from making potential problems disappear...The difference is most intelligence services are a lot more adapt at it than throwing a hanky over the mouth in a busy airport that's all...it's done quietly efficiently and nobody ever hears a thing about it....

How many country's in the world would have used that very dangerous lethal chemical agent in such a slap stick way at an international airport ,which in turn I guess could have been far far worse outcome.
As you said a snot rag with said VX or whatever it was then help a chap called Kim to blow his nose.
NK Trained up two tarts incase one failed in her attempt would by my guess.NK had various midget gem spotters
at the airport so they could point out the correct target to be hit .then they had to hang about and check that the hit had been a success ,which it was.
The fact that as you point out the NK opperation to take out this kim chap was so slap stick is a huge worry as for the other kim in NK with silly haircut ordered the hit > the exact kim who has his finger ove or will have ove r a nuke button .
If carlsberg did hit jobs it would not have been close to how NK do theirs

Maybe we should consider our own and America's foreign policies and question why North Korea are so intent on developing nuclear weapons to aim at the Americans.
To start we may want to question why the Americans have ran over a 1500 nuclear tests since 1945 and North Korea have undertaken 6 and question again who is the real
Problem in this scenario.
-
Peace is not an option for the US, it's economy relies on selling arms and ammunition.
I found this article about US/Korea very interesting.

Have the Americans fired nuclear missiles over neighbouring countries of late?

Has anyone? A missile 'capable' of carrying a nuclear warhead maybe.

Yeah, fair enough, good spot.
However, still very provocative.

What really really gets my goat about the yanks is they do are matters far worse after sticking their oars in at times.
Look at Afghanistan ,they only stuck their two bobs worth in that country because Afghanistan was having running battles against the Russians ,and the Russians back then were yanks only real threat .
So yanks get involved in Afghanistan by supplying them arms and training just to piss the Russians off
and now look how many yank troops have been sent back in body bags from that region .

Not that I am aware of and neither have North Korea. They have however fired a misile. How many have America fired directly at other countries recently?

A conspiracist would say it was more about taking over the supply of the opiate manufacturing trade in Afghanistan. Others would say it was in retaliation for the acts of Obama bin laden but if that was the case you would have to question why they flew the family out of America immediately after 9/11
-
Yanks were in Afghanistan way before bin laden had is day .
Some pillock yank from whatever American agency started to run arms out to Afghanistan in the late 1970s or early 1980s I recall.
In a short space of time the Afghan hill side fighters were taking out Russian helicopters with hand held rocket launchers supplied by the yanks.
-
Yes it was known as Operation Cyclone. Although not quite organised by 'some pillock'. It was a proper CIA run operation.
Also not quite true about Bin Laden. Bin Laden was in Afghanistan during this period, he was one of the Mujahideen fighting the Soviets. It is disputed if he was ever directly trained and armed by the Yanks, but he was there and they provided arms and training.
-
Thanks for filling all the missing gaps in mr wilts.
why did the CIA feal the need to get involved by backing the Afghan fighters ?
Last but not least ,did the CIA backing of the afghans back then lead America right into today's mess that they have to put boots on Afghan soil to try to clear up present day mess.?

I wasn't meaning bin laden himself, but his wider family. This is what I was referring to.

Because they backed/supported/started up opposition to any group in any country where communist forces or ideology might be. Including their own.

Yes. There is a direct line from the Mujahideen to the Taliban who ran Afghanistan in the early part of this century when Bin Laden was running Al Qaeda from there. There are also links from the Mujahideen to Al Qaeda.
Glad to help.

The Tom Hanks film Charlie Wilson's War was about this, though probably not 100% accurate.

Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to notice the USA was fighting a proxy war against the communist USSR...
-
I see they've fired another missisle over Japan, like it or not the fat odd shaped boy will not stop until he gets his arse slapped
-
He's not stupid he can do what he wants because he doesn't believe there will be consequences...It's the same old story.. fire a missile, wait a few weeks while the doves call for negotiations that he doesn't have any intention of having, thrown in a security council resolution that gets watered down by the Russians and Chines so it has little effect..In the meantime his scientists get that little bit closer to the end game....He has to be stopped and the sooner the better..I just wish we all knew how..!!!
-
I wonder what both china and Russia would do if said fired missile was going over their land.
I guess it would not be a watered down solution to the problem.
Don't the japs have anti missile launchers that would knock any NK missile fired across them.

I think last time out they noticed that the missile was gonna fly over them so decided not to shoot it down to avoid any escalation
-
Well the japs or anyone else should should blow out of the sky any missile that's going over their airspace .
I mean the Russians have taken out aircraft that have wondered off by mistake into its airspace before.
NK Are taking the piss .

Shooting down missiles is far easier said than done. Shooting down aircraft is easy.
-
This one was 400 miles up in the air when it went over Japan - higher than the International Space Station.
-
Back to the drawing board then ,suppose they will just have to let Kim get on playing silly buggers
-
Wilts, Very good point and that puts it well in to perspective. This missile not only flew near 150 miles higher than the ISS, hard but not too difficult. But whats more frightening is NK have the capability to successfully re-enter the vehicle intact, not so easy.Taking in to account not only the heat and friction and rapidly increasing dynamic pressures involved, but being able to hit what is a very tight angle window for successful re-entry.
