Title: Garratt
Post by: selby on December 24, 2017, 11:43:01 am
The lad was very very good yesterday, and is visibly improving with game time.
In the second half yesterday, when we  came under pressure, his covering and anticipation of the ball inside the full back, and his covering behind our central defenders, and picking up the  runner, shepherding the ball out, or  forcing the player wide, was the best I have seen him play.
Top class defending from a young player, great to see, and credit to our coaching staff.
He was part of a great defence yesterday, which contributed a lot to our win, none could be faulted, but Garratt was my M.O.M. in an all round good day for our defence.

Hopefully getting game time will improve both confidence and awareness of his part in the team.  A few wins will help as well.He does look to have potential.

Can’t be said same of Mathieu Baudry who made Garret’s job harder with senseless ill timed tackles and passes .

He was talking about garratt!
I know let's put something negative about a completely different player cause I can't bring myself to say anything positive

He needs to bulk up a bit because I’ve noticed he gets knocked around and out of balance a lot by attackers.

Personally I still think a left back is priority in January if Andrew is out for the season

He visibly improved in the last home match after being given a bit of a roasting in the first 15 mins. Good to hear his defensive game is coming on.

I would like to see him given the shirt and a proper run in team rather than bring in another young player on loan. Unless we get someone in with experience who he can learn from while Andrews is out.

.. Garratt has really grown in confidence and although not a heavily built lad he is strong and nimble footed .
As for Mathieu .. he is class but not yet match sharp after a long lay off and this was his first start for a while .

Thanks for agreeing about Garratt, I have problems with your take on Baudry, I think he was a big part of a good defencive display. Yes he did misplace a couple of passes, but not in dangerous positions, made some timely tackles and interceptions, and covered Wright and Butler well when needed.
He is a footballing defender, gets about the areas he should do,and looks to play it out, nothing wrong with that at the right time.

Baudry did look a bit rusty yesterday, being out of position a couple of times and misplacing passes. Not least that strange move from the kick-off which nearly led to a chance for them. But that's only to be expected after a long lay-off and returning to fitness. We know he is a class player and will get back to his best with game time.

Like selby I thought Garratt had a good game yesterday. He was rarely out of position, put in a few good tackles and looked good defensively. It was telling that the tricky winger he was up against was taken off after 70 minutes. If I had a critisism of him it is that he seemed to lack the confidence to push forward and support the attack more. He would rather play a simple ball inside than take their full-back on, but again that will come in time. He has only played about 20 games.

Agree with DonnyBaz, I feared the worst against Oldham after first 10 minutes but credit to him he figured it out

Still waiting for Dickos to come on coz Wilts made a negative comment about Baudry.

Doesn't count if it isn't someone he doesn't like.

He MUST like me coz I sponsored him in his charity walk earlier in the year.
