Post by: Drover on December 26, 2017, 06:02:32 pm
Im an exile who only goes to winter games.Today I took my grandson and it's is first time I gone in car and needed to park for a couple of seasons.Parked in Lakeside and got a ticket. Now I know for future,I have no problem parking elsewhere, but wondered where I stand on the ticket already got today,I hear some say don't pay it,they cannot enforce it,but others say it different now, best to pay?

I sometimes park at Lakeside and have never had a ticket.
What is the ticket supposedly for?
If they say for match day parking tell them your wife was doing some shopping while you went to the game.

Yes hound,I read the parking signs and all it said was, customer parking only and if you leave the lakeside, you may be liable to a fine.I spotted a few others match bound parking there and ive parked there often in the past and never got a ticket before,Thats what we are thinking, saying the missus went shopping, but we parked there at about 2.20 was in the ground about 2.36.Ticket says 1st seen at 2.47,ticket issued at 2.47?Im thinking they must have seen us to decide to issue a ticket to car after only about 30mins.But why wait 30 mins before issuing ticket if they seen us leave as soon as?

The issue is around the “driver” leaving the site - doesn’t matter if you leave the wife there. I’d challenge them to show you leaving the site - you could have gone for mc d’s, before looking at the shops😁. It’s not a fine, it’s an invoice, and you agree to the contract by parking there. The signs are clear, if they can show you leaving the site and they take you to court for breach of contract you probably will end up paying a few hundred £ in charges and added costs. Increasingly they do take people to court. I previously challenged based on above and got my ticket withdrawn.

Drover, the club provide car parks you can park in for £5, it goes into  the clubs coffers and is taken into account for football fair play, allowing the club to have a bigger turn over, and  spend more on players.
It might save you a few quid as well.

I have genuinely parked there, gone to the game with my mate and the two wives gone shopping.
Quite a few times.
I would have thought that shopping receipts would be proof enough that the car park has been used for Lakeside shopping.
Can they prove who was driving I wonder and would consider whether they would know whether the driver has been to a shop before leaving the site.

You are liable to pay, all depends on how much they want to enforce it. They probably issue 100s of notices a year - the odd one they might pursue via court action.

Yes,Selby,I was in 2 minds to do that today, but little one said he did'nt mind a short walk,so decided against it.I will use it in future. But £60 fine today is not a nice late xmas gift, over the top, like they always are.

Really! I did'nt know that, but it makes sense. If I knew they enforced them before going,I would have parked at ground.

Private companies can issue parking tickets and may call them Parking Charge Notices, but they are not the same as the Penalty Charge Notice. They are not backed up by law. ... If the car park operator wants to force you to pay, they will need to take you to the civil court, which is costly and time-consuming....
Off T' internet. I understand that only the police can FINE you....

I currently park near the Vue cinema and do the five minute walk round the side of the lake to the ground, unless of course the wife wants to be shopping at Lakeside.

If you want to park for nowt, there's the road to the right of the roundabout as you enter Lakeside, all down that road (or the majority of it) you can park and there's usually a few spots to be had in the hashed areas, just as long as you're not on double yellows.

Never been ticketed for it. Or the Vue if you want to be in an actual car park. Also done that plenty of times, no ticket - if you don't mind walking.

Its easy for me to say but I would wait for Filo to respond - he seems to know the "latest" info. Also go on Martin Lewis website and put in Parking Lakeside Doncaster and there will be loads of info. There is on Donny Airport and other "places around Town"

The signs say something along the lines of "liable to a parking charge" unless they have been changed recently. £60 sounds unreasonable for a parking charge ,I would have thought.

Tried looking but found nowt except "Parking Enforcement Officers will be watching for others leaving the Site and may issue Tickets etc etc" (part of the Lakeside Village Site info)

So if they saw you leave they may think they "have you" but did they see the ahem Wives head into the Centre itself ? If not and ahem the Wife was driving as well ask them for proof of what they have

Come on Filo where are you ?

I wonder what would happen if the wives went shopping for a couple of hours and then left the car park to go to the match?

Thanks, just had a good look at ticket and it's titled "Parking charge",It also says "A parking attendant No: **** had reasonable cause to believe that the following breach of the terms and conditions of parking occured on private land(details of which were clearly and prominently displayed and agreed to by the driver by the act of parking the vehicle):-

Yep,doe's not say how much on sign, but on ticket it actually says "A parking charge of (a space to put whatever they like) and actually £100 in different typing which will be cut to £60 if paid in 14 days.

Its also dependent on the Contract between them and you becoming legally binding by you seeing reading and agreeing to the Terms posted. If you did not see a sign (or the Driver did not see the Sign) you cannot have entered into said Contract so it has no validity in "law"

That is why these Private "cowboys" are often on a hiding to nowt ! They exist because perhaps 10% of people they "fine" pay up

Check out Pepipoo too

Wolfe, that point about the driver not having seen the notice is a good one.
Could they ever prove that the driver had done?

Well if they was sat in a car and watched us,unfortunately they will have seen me read the sign.

I always used to park there personally I believe the £5 parking charge is extortionate for the club car park, if they matched the other ones nearby at 3 or 4 quid? That pound reduction maybe would tempt more fans to not use the other ones.

Last season I think it was the Grimsby game the signs first went up? I had members of staff there at a few games paying attention to what I was wearing and even watching me back to my car.

Hence I got the silver membership just to save the hassle, I always was curious if that was part of the reason they advertised this to deter from parking at lakeside.

Do they not have to prove that you've seen it?

What do you mean about the Silver membership?Do you get a discount on car park or something?

Just had a read up,you probably mean Silver plus membership, which includes on site parking. We've got half season tickets and it says silver membership,I assume it means standard silver membership.

Yes sorry mate I meant the Silver Plus one, I personally don't think it's worth it better paying £5 even thought I think this is over priced it should maybe be something more £3 then it would probably deter fans from parking at Lakeside.

Just isn't worth the hassle in my opinion.

Maybe BT could bring back their Charity Parking (for Bluebell Wood)

They offered it a few seasons back for £3 I think but at the time Carolina Way was available for free and no Yellow Lines so it did not work and they jacked it in

Now however it might work with the only downside I could see being getting out onto Carolina Way

Thanks for all the advice guys,we are going to appeal(nothing to loose),with the advice from Martin Lewis site.Although Im not confident, although private they are members of BPA and say they act within their guidelines.I just realised,I've been going to Rovers games for 40 years in 2018,visited nearly 60 stadiums and this is the 1st parking ticket I've ever had due to that. :woot:
