Another team below us who earlier in the season scored goals very late on against us to take the points when we looked like getting something from the game.
Since then our results have been better and we are now on a long winning streak of two games.
Add their win in a penalty shoot out, against a young team who again played very well, and could have won, and it seems as though they have had something over us lately.
They are one of the teams in Lancashire whose supporters I admire most in football, supporting a local side in the shadow of the two Manchester teams, and the more recognised sides like Burnley and Blackburn etc.
This season in the league, Cooke their manager has not been able to inspire his team to a consistent run of form and they are sitting in a relegation spot. Their results and stats suggest that they keep getting on the wrong side of quite close games, and only have a goal difference of seven, by far the best in the lower reaches.
Yesterday they lost 2-0 to Blackburn, although playing well and having a good shout for a penalty turned down, and generally playing well.
A word of admiration for one of their players Joe Thompson who has returned to their first team after beating cancer for a second time, Fantastic.
Can we carry on our good form?
What changes is Fergie likely to make?
How many travelling fans on a cold Friday night will attend?
Will we see our home crowd attendence hold up?
Can we have the perfect holiday points return?
-
There managers name is Hill not Cooke.

Thanks for that Bessie, I had just read the Wigan match report, another senior moment.
It looks like we will need the warm clothing on on Friday, and probably the pitch covering before the game according to the weather report.
We never seem to play Rochdale in ideal conditions.
-
We should on paper be beating these. They were shite when we played them at their place in the league and only won because we went to sleep at the death.
-
Having changed the side for the Cobblers game, wonder if DF will make changes again for this game looking to have his strongest side available and fresh for the Posh game, which on paper is our hardest of the festive period.

I have yet to see us win on paper .

If we do win, when was the last time we won 3 games on the bounce at league 1 level?

I am expecting Rochdale to give us a much harder time of it in this game than Northampton did Boxing Day.
In Henderson, Done, and Gillam they have players who have been around the block and have been thorns in our sides before.
They have only lost four of their games by more than one goal this season, and bizarley considering their win in the league against us, have like us suffered from conceding late goals in games.
Lillis the goalkeeper has made a habit of playing well against us in the past, and in Keith Hill they have a manager who knows this division inside out.
There is no doubting our recent improvement in our form as a team, especially in defence and midfield, with Rowe looking far fitter, and Coppinger seeming to dominate games more so this season than previous seasons in midfield.
If we improve our taking of chances created,we could be a force to be reckoned with at this level, and another three point return would be a great points return over the Christmas period, and would also put a marker down for Rochdale's return shortly in the cup.
A reversal of our cup and league defeats earlier in the season should increase crowd appeal at a poor weather wise part of the season.

The crowd attendance will be interesting tomorrow. Visiting fans may be put off by the weather, travelling over the top is not always good at this time of the year, and traffic on a Friday evening is always heavy in the Leeds area.
Our attendances have improved this season because of the clubs various initiatives especially for the younger supporters, and tomorrow could be the best indicator yet of just how successful the club have targeted this area of our support.
The Black Bank initiative has been a roaring success as far as I can see from the west stand, and when they get going creates an atmosphere that had been missing for years.
-
Rochdale wont bring many whatever the weather is.
-
Agree with that one, Bezza. The journey is pretty easy from Rochdale as they're right on the M62, so road conditions will not be a factor. It will more likely come down to the fact that they lie 2nd bottom of the division!
I think is going to be a tricky fixture for us and I suspect it will be a lot more of a challenge than what Northampton provided. Having said that, 2 wins on the bounce doesn't exactly knock your confidence and I think the lads will be up for this one. Another win sees us going to Peterboro' with the best possible frame of mind. If we get a result there, then it might get a bit exciting.
-
Totally agree. Doesn't take much for a feel good factor to come back. If they carry on where they left off and make it three on the bounce, top half of the table, play offs in sight, then hopefully we'll see the Keepmoat rocking again.

Being a negative poster, according to Dickos anyway, I agree with you selby that the Rochdale match may not be as easy as some posters think.
They have actually lost fewer matches than us and only scored two less goals than us.
They are not as defensively poor as our last opponents.
I would expect them to come and play very defensively and frustrate us.
Hopefully we can get an early goal which may tempt them to come out a bit more than they had planned to, although if it stays at 1-0 I wouldn’t expect them to be too adventurous until around 70minutes or so.
Hopefully we can build a 2-0 or better lead because I don’t think they would have enough in reserve to get back from that.
-
Will be a tough game this make no mistake, good manager at this level is Keith Hill. Another 3 points would be brilliant but if we can't we must make sure we take a point going into the Peterborough game.
-
Is it £10 in south stand tomorrow if so the crowd should be ok for a cold Friday night
-
Have I missed something? I know that it IS on Friday night but can anyone tell me why as nobody I speak to that goes Rovers seems to know?
-
Cant answer that - and it clashes with Football on Telly AND not that this will make a difference Donny Knights v Yorkshire Carnegie also live on Sky KO 19 45

Anyone know why we are actually playing tonight rather than tomorrow?
It was a move made early as its a Friday kick off on those little fixture cards!
-
Bit bizarre really . There must be a plausible reason. Racing due today rather than tomorrow so thats not a reason
Races wont affect us either as it will have been and gone (or have been postponed)
-
I think it is to do with evening out the breaks between the holiday period games, and thus giving more rest before Monday’s game.

It's £10 anywhere in the ground.. £5 concessions and £1 under 17 (I think)..
-
Looks like the weather forecast is pretty much spot on for this area and the game should go ahead.
I wonder if they will still water the pitch before kick off?
-

That can't be quite right, Dutch, as that would mean all games should be on Friday night?
-
Maybe Rochdale and ourselves were frightened that international call ups would disrupt our plans.
-
Whatever the reason, it means that our players will have almost a full day extra between games than Peterborough who play on Saturday afternoon.
-
Or the wives wanted the players to have Saturday off
so they could go shopping at the sales.

I think if both teams agree, then they can change it.
-
We always seem to play our Easter Saturday match the day before on Good Friday also.
I think our managers have preferred the extra day off before the Monday fixture and have then got agreement from the club we are playing.
This is the only thing I can think of as a plausible reason as most matches today and Easter are played on Saturday. This is a pattern that has gone on for quite a few years now.

That was a good win, not the greatest performance, but more pertinent in the way it was achieved, in the way we matched the physical side of the game giving as good as we got.
Some time ago I mentioned that I felt we had to man up to compete at this level and were being bullied out of games, Gillingham in the first game and other inferior football teams were coming to the Keepmoat, and physically knocking us out of our game. Them days look to have gone if the Bristol and Rochdale games are anything to go by, where we matched sides openly trying to work us over.
It was not the greatest game to watch, hard graft and good goalkeeping winning the game for us, plus the taking of two chances one from outside the box, which was a great strike, and one from the edge of the box by Alfie.
Much of my criticism of Alfie has been that he needs a touch before shooting, and it is an aspect of his game he should work on. His goal was deflected admittedly, but he did hit it on the turn first time, giving the defender less time to close him down, and got his reward. Nobody was more pleased than me.
After that goal Hill showed his experience and changed things slightly, we got away with a bit of luck for a change when they missed two great chances, and Lawlor who is fast improving played well.
Rochdale went after Rowe and Copps, and it showed how important they are to us when they play well, but it is another three points, and keeps our mini run going. I think the cup game will be a bit feisty carrying on from this game, but for now it is on to an important game at Peterborough.
