Reading his autobiography.
He writes about when we played Liverpool in the cup. Says a chance fell to Alick who should have scored if he'd headed it. Instead Alick brought it down on his chest and was crowded out before he could shoot.
He says that after the game he asked Alick why he hadn't headed it and Alick says he could no longer head the ball as he had a steel plate in his head from the car crash.
Don't know whether Alick was taking the piss as I clearly recall his bullet headers during that spell.

I wonder is this only the second autobiography of an ex Rovers Manager . I have an ancient copy of Peter Doherty's 'Spotlight on Football' 18;;; no 1953.
