NEWS | Rodney Kongolo is looking forward to continuing his development at Rovers after extending his loan from Manchester City until the end of the season.
-
I suppose this counts as good news ?
-
Bit surprising, that one. Hope he proves me wrong but I really don't rate him.
-
He has fits and starts..if he improves he could come very good.
-
Maybe play him in bens position, could allow him to be more creative?
-
With Ben leaving this was now very important. Dave knows the team and systems. Fitting two completely new loans or signings into the midfield would have been an issue
-
Hopefully we will see him in an attacking role which suits him best.
-
I bet this lad will pleasantly surprise us all . Another confidence boost for him and DF will help his continued development .
-
Come on! Let's face it: up to now he hasn't been very good at all. In fact, I reckon he's been very poor. Not a good piece of business in my humble opinion.
Prove me wrong now please
-
I think Ben leaving could be the making of Rodney.

Dah ?

Wrong Player Wrong Division

The extension of Rodney’s loan may not be every ones cup of tea. We would all like a more experienced player and better consistently. But we don’t know how much we are paying for him to be with us. In our overall budget his cost could be helping us.

It doesn't matter if we're getting him for free, if he's not good enough, he's not good enough. And up to now quite frankly, err he hasn't been good enough
-
He hasn't been good enough in every game but neither has Rowe, coppinger, whiteman, but he's played well in games. Especially when coming off the bench.
He made a big difference v scunny and also on Monday
-
I take it you mean against Scunny in the cup? Ok, I didn't go to that one and I didn't go to Peterborough either, so if he played well in those games fair enough.
I shall re-phrase my comment to 'every time I've seen him play he hasn't been good enough'.
-
We know he's limited defensively and has struggled with the rigours of men's football, but we've also seen enough to know there is a footballer in there.
A little faith in him may go a long way and I hope he gets his head down and show what he can really do. It takes time for a player to find his feet, playing under instruction, being cautious and disciplined not wanting to let anyone down. He may have been caught between a rock and a hard place.
-
I hope he come good too Barry, but I've not seen anything yet to suggest he will. As daft as it sounds he'd probably look better playing at a higher lever because he would have a lot more time on the ball than he does now. The lower leagues are tough for the kind of player he is

I have seen him maybe 4 or 5 times, and he has looked a threat going forward and at other times he looks lost. But the only way to learn not to be "lost" on the pitch and to get so me consistency is to play - but ideally play to his strengths.
Going on the latest game - at Peterborough - he didn't look lost on the pitch and he was a threat going forward.

Having his brother down the road at Huddersfield might help his development.

He is 19 yrs old ... do the knockers think they were the finished product at that age ? I certainly was not, neither physically nor mentally ; I still had a lot to improve upon ' (and still have ).

No-one is knocking him, what we're saying is at the present time he's not what we need

Your opinion - clearly Fergie disagrees..

Again DF said the signing of Houghton permantly would mean signing any more other players would have to leave first. Ok that might have changed now, but keeping Kongolo is ok especially if we can’t sign better. We would all like that but it may not happen.

Dear me
-
A Dutch under 21 international not got enough for the Rovers. By God when did we get so big?.
-
22 professional appearances (many as sub) is hardly enough time to judge a player.
-
Completely agree cim

I do wonder how Kongolo's career will progress over the next 18 months. He will be 20 come the end of the season and hasn't yet shown anything to suggest he has much of a future as a first-team player at Manchester City.
That's not to say that he won't make it as a player in the top-flight somewhere down the line as he has shown talent in bursts, however the consensus is that he must improve significantly if he is to achieve this. I'm unsure of his contract situation at Man City, however may he be available at some point in the future?
