It will be interesting to see how Kongolo does if he plays just behind the front two.
I said the other day that he might be quite decent there.

It's more of a free role I remember when he played at Arsenal he looked really good when he was running at Arsenal's back line. Blair and Rowe can tuck in when out of possession 5-3-2 maybe.

Agreed, he has good pace and much skill.
Maybe he will be better without so much defensive responsibility.

Hopefully he won't adopt the 4-4-2 diamond he seems to sometimes play it gives us no width plus we get done in the wide areas all the time.

Just heard DFs prematch interview. He said the team is a fit team, full of running. Mmm. Not quite sure we'd agree with that.

He also said we've not been playing well enough positionally. Glad he's acknowledged that, as Houghtons been way too deep. I hope he gets involved in positive play rather than playing as an extra centre half.

Great, just kicked off and we're on the back foot already. Come on boys!

Soft goal. Cross from the right, their player has had acres of room. Their full back has isolated Blair and outjumped him.

The game up until that point was frantic, with a complete absence of any quality or composure from both teams. Walsal looked the more likely playing it on the floor. Blair and Kongolo seen a lot of the ball on our right but no end quality.

I think you have to start to asking serious questions about our organisation as a team when their full back waltzes into our box to score twice, only one of which was limply challenged.

I know we've been incredibly unlucky with defensive injuries but this is the time in Fergie's tenure you want this end product to rely on. New players coming in should fit into the structure already there but there doesn't look to be one.
Title: Re: Walsall v TLO Donny
Post by: DearneValleyRover on February 13, 2018, 08:22:23 pm
Rowe at left wing back and Kongolo on the pitch isn’t helping, failing to mark players in the box as well doesn’t help. We look disorganised and don’t appear to have a game plan
Title: Re: Walsall v TLO Donny
Post by: RoversAlias on February 13, 2018, 08:22:28 pm
Kongolo has lost the ball everytime he's had it.

That doesn't surprise me at all.

Our defence is a big cause for concern at the moment, we suffered rotten, rotten luck losing Butler, Wright and Baudry within the space of a week. Yes it's good Baudry is nearly back but the other two have been our best players this season and are sorely missed.

OK, fair-dos, he's wearing No.2 and a lot of time deep on the wing which confused me. In any case...

Interesting to hear McCullough not doing well. I'm guessing he's part of a back 3? Those 3 aren't really settled, and anyway I thought McCullough had more found his place in defensive midfield? Still, if his passing IS that bad...

What do you mean by that?

Just because some fans aren't calling for the manager's head, doesn't mean we're not disappointed with a poor performance?

I'm usually optimistic and it isn't impossible to get back into the game, but I don't think we will..

Radio commentator has said that McCullough is playing well.

Having said that, Luke played well when he came on on Saturday, in front of the defence.

So, a good enough reason to change where he is playing.

I've got this funny feeling:
I seem to recall that we played Cambridge Utd away on a Tuesday night during the season following promotion from the Conference. We went 3-0 down, fought back to 3-3, before what's-his-name missed a penalty in the last minute. Like I said, I've got this feeling!

McCullough’s defending moderately well (although he was soft as shite for the second goal) but his distribution is f**king awful. He’s hammering balls 50 yards up the field but he’s struggling to aim a pass into the same post code as any Rovers attacker.

I look at the other scores during every game and that's whether we're doing well, mediocre or shite. I tend to look every half an hour or so usually when I'm at the game but tonight I forgot (if I'm not there I usually have Sky on so don't need to).

I'm concerned about our current poor performances, I'd be totally blinkered not to be, but I keep the faith and stick to my belief that we'll finish in mid-table - I.E. between 10th and 16th.

Fleetwood next, they're terrible. We need to get a win and it has to be in this next match!

I agree that we need a win.
Fleetwood might be terrible but so have we in the last couple of games, in fact we have been in at times in some of the games we sneaked draws from.
However we have slipped another place to 16th and one point closer to the bottom three.

The worst thing about us scoring two late goals is that it kind of takes some embarrassment away from the scoreline and makes it more respectable.
Make no mistakes. They should be very embbarrssed after that,Fergie included.
