Title: Poor Substitution Again
Post by: Ian Nimmo on February 25, 2018, 07:13:40 pm
RUFC are are big team, with many of their players over six foot, which is why we did well with Tom at the centre of our defence, until his unfortunate injury.
I really hope he OK it did not look good.

Yes we can debate all the time about whether copps should come off or not, however for me bringing Jordan on was the incorrect decision.
He's not been the same player since he came back.

The obvious choice for me would have been Luke, he much stronger than Jordan and more experienced to have dealt with end period of the game

Luke wasn’t on the bench. He must have been injured.

He picked up a knock against Fleetwood and was hoping to be fit for Saturday, but did not make it, according to the Free Press.

Copps signalled he couldn't carry on much longer, so you obviously substitute that player or they wont be as effective and like everyone else has pointed out he can't pull out an injured Luke from nowhere.

The team had to be restructured after the injuries.

I can see that, because a few minutes earlier Alfie May was stripped and ready to come on (presumably for Kiwomya) and then he was told to put his top back on again. So Copps must have told the bench he needed to come off. However the change shouldn't have been made until after the free kick. It's not so much the marking (because players coming on are told who to mark) but because they lose concentration. In this case Marquis (who had been doing a good job at set pieces) lost his man.

With Copps off and no Andy Butler we then go into headless chicken mode.
