Some advice please guys
My 11 year old wants to ‘have a go’ at golf
I used to play a fair bit but have totally lost touch with the game
There used to be a fair few pitch and putts around, looking now there only seems to be Cantley
Anybody play this, is it any good, recommend anywhere
Thanks in advance

At Owston you can borrow clubs for free. The nine holer is not a pitch and putt but it’s a nice course and not too long. There’s a pitch and putt at Scarborough if you want to make a day of it and one at Filey near the car parks at the top of the town.
Hope that helps 👍🏼

I don't think the Cantley course is open now. Owston is a good course, as stated, and claims to be the cheapest in Doncaster.
If you're lucky you might follow knockers and can take one of his divets home to practice your putting on.

Really?? That's a shame used to love playing that pitch and Putt at Cantley, and it was a ideal little starter for kids wanting to try it out...bloody more cutbacks I guess..
-
... and I still find it sad walking around Sandall Park with the Tees and Greens still visible yet discarded
Used to be one at Balby too was it called Carr View ?
-
I could be wrong about it being shut now, but on the two or three occasions that I've been past it over the last year or so there has been no green flags or any sort of activity going on there. The course does look like it's maintained to some degree though.

Owd up...I walked over Cantley park other day. It looked to me that the greens had recently been cut so maybe it is about to open for the season.
Beat me to it BB...

Was that the Weston road one? If it's the one I'm thinking of it didn't last very long before they built on it.
There also used to be a good little 9-holer at the Dell at Hexthorpe park.

There is a course at Misterton that is pretty good if you're just starting out, it's next to the Haxey Gate pub.

Why not try out at one of the many driving ranges in the area and learn how to swing the club properly before venturing onto a course.
Early lessons for kids are a good way to pick up good habits before any of the bad ones take over.

Thanks guys some good pointers there
Are any driving ranges better than others

Can you hire clubs at driving range ?
-
Doncaster Driving Range at Barnby Dun do kids group lessons I think. They do club hire.

Is the course at High Melton college still open ?

I understand that it closed as a golf course but became a foot golf course.
Don’t know if it is still open though.
-
Nope that closed too.

Think the footgolf has closed now and houses are going to be built on the land?
Kingswood golf course isn't bad to have a knock round. Also got a driving range and a crazy golf course too, and heard the food is meant to be really nice, always seems to be packed on a Sunday..
