Title: Hans Rosling
Post by: BillyStubbsTears on April 11, 2018, 06:38:00 pm
Only found out a few days ago that one of my heroes died last year.

In a world and an era when everyone seems to take it as read that the world is going to pieces, Hans Rosling was a beacon of intelligent optimism. And he was optimistic because his job was to collect and present statistics on world wealth and health. And what he found was that the world has been on a path of almost constant, and quite phenomenal improvement for a hundred years. And he was a fantastic presenter.

Have a look at him in action.

The guy’s a genius. Sorry. WAS.

There’s a video where he shows how badly the public in Sweden appreciate the massive improvements in health that have happened over the years. He shows the data then he says: “ So I saw this and I said, ‘Who the hell is responsible for informing the public about these things? Then I realised: it’s ME!”

On average, Swedish people have slightly less than two legs.  Was another stat I learnt from Hans.
