Is that the lad from Kent who played for the development team as a trialist and scored.

He's from Kent, having a quick Google, not sure if he played for the development squad but it is likely it's the same lad.

Right, that's that one done with. Now, let the rumours commence.

Good luck, Max.

He was on trial earlier in the season.

Yes having read more he was here in January played and scored in a development game. DF been keeping in touch, had an ankle injury he appears to be ok now. At 18/19 the right age for the development team and if he shows he as the attitude and ability may get his chance in the first team.

Hopefully goes the way of Beestin over Donaldson.

Can't believe there's people moaning about this on Facebook. Saying it shows no ambition for next season. The transfer window hasn't even been open a week yet.

Surely it shows the opposite, shows ambition for the next 3 or 4 seasons instead of 1! Also the budget cant be as terrible as first rumored if we are signing young 18 year old's for the development side and not seasoned pro's that can impact the team in the short term, pleased with the first 2 signings, a few more now will be top!

'One for the future' is always a funny phrase isn't it.

Given that, when you sign a player, all their games are in the future, you'd hope they're all one for the future.

Max Watters sounds like a small firm of electricians.

Anyway, he doesn't even have a dedicated highlight reel on Youtube, but he does have 3 entries in Ashford United's December 2017 goal of the month competition. Obviously we are all now qualified to say whether he is bloody rubbish or a world beater, speculate away!

God I've read some idiotic comments this morning especially on Facebook...We've signed a promising young lad on a no doubt small wage to go into the development squad and see if we've found a diamond and people are moaning about ambition????

You can't get your breath at the stupidity of them...it's just a bonus signing and no reflection on the 1st team budget at all for next season...People moan that we don't get young talent coming through and then moan when we do....I can excuse the young kids comments but some of them are grown men...It's rare I say this, as everyones entitled to a opinion but they are clueless....

I'm afraid the Facebook contingent is full, brimming in fact, with idiocy.

Good luck to Max, let's hope he grows into a good player for us.

This signing if anything makes it look like we have a decent budget. If it was small you'd focus on first teamers, not waste any of the small amount we have on players that won't be near the team this year, even if they're on pittance.

I think it’s a positive signing, looking at how beestins come on which is similar, and given he’s a wide player come forward I’d be annoyed if we signed senior pros in that position given we don’t play anyone there!

Certainly more important positions to get experience in imo

Ok, first of all, welcome to the club Max, and the very best of luck for your future with us; now comes a serious question, and it's not a moan, just a genuine question; are we still looking for an experienced quality striker to help out Marquis? if not, I have serious concerns about our ability to score enough goals to make us genuine play-off contenders.

Steve, you need to be asking the CEO that question, as no-one on here can answer that!
My take is, we still need 3 more 1st team players signing before we kick off the new season. On top of that, a couple of good loans would be more than useful.

Ferguson said we are a few week ago, saying he wants to take some burden off Marquis, so yeah.

Steve - Can I answer your question with another question - why would signing a forward for the development squad with well over two months to go until the start of the new season mean we won’t be looking for at least one forward to replace the outgoing Williams and possibly Mandeville?
Title: Re: Max Watters signed
Post by: steve@dcfd on May 22, 2018, 05:13:32 pm
The CEO has been given the list of players that DF would like to sign on that list I assume are first, second, third choice for a physical striker let’s see what we get. We have until the end of August.

Sorry guys, I should have worded it better, and began with "does anyone think?". I suppose I'm asking about permanent signings; I did suggest in an earlier post that we may have to enter the loan market to get the kind of quality we need in a support striker for Marquis, because good strikers are so rare, at any level. I know that we have parted company with Williams and Mandeville, but we still have Marquis, May, Kiwomya, Beestin, and Copps who can play in an attacking role. My query is whether or not our budget will stretch to a permanent signing of a striker, or one on a season's loan.

Just imagine having nine goals in a month to pick from.  :chair:

And during the Q & A session, Watters was asked how many goals he had scored during one season. The teen replied: “I think it was 79 when I was 12.”

so we'll expect 80 +

 :chair: x79 !

and for a nickname it'll have to be high tide or even spring tide ( a bit too clever for redj)

you never know what you might pick up from non league remember this bloke scoring loads of goals for poole town ON CHECKING WIKIPEDIA IT WAS BUCKETSFULL OF GOALS

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Austin

amazed how nobody took a chance much earlier

we can but dream he'll do that well but time will tell  .. he probably scored more goals than Rooney as a 12 year old 79 is a lot

None of the four you mention there mate are going to score enough goals to be classed as likely to score enough goals to back up Marquis.
I am with you Steve, In that it is paramount to our top six aspirations than we sign another proven goal scorer.
As I said earlier, goals are a precious commodity.

"A bit too clever" or not amusing in any way and something nobody other than you would ever suggest?

Not really sure it was necessary to have a random swipe at me there, was it?

You've got to look at signings as a whole, not after a couple have been brought in. Let's see where we are on the eve of the season. Most of the experienced ones will probably arrive at the end, rather than the beginning of the window.

Slight correction required, there, we haven't parted company with Mandeville.....yet! Not as far as I know, anyway.

And, I also think DF said he wanted to take some of the physical burden off Marquis. So, any new striker doesn't necessarily need to be a prolific scorer of goals and, let's face it, if he was, we would not be able to afford him. My feeling is it will need to be someone who is mobile/energetic/strong to take that physical punishment. The thought of having 2 guys up top with those qualities will give opposition defences quite a bit to be thinking about! The lad from Wimbledon would do, for me.

There's a double-edged sword here, in that it's not just the JM problem we've had (someone else scoring) but also the lack of creativity has been a worry. And that's having Copps and Rowe in the team. Of course, look what happened when neither of those 2 were available towards the end of the season!

We simply have to have something else in our armoury for next season and seeing us being interested in the likes of the Irish lad (named in the rumours section) gives me hope for an interesting summer recruitment drive.

"Max is a quick player capable of getting in behind defences, with which the majority of goals have come from, with the teenager also a confident in a dead ball situation." Could we get someone who has a vague recollection of the English language to write about new players on the official site? I can grasp what is meant, but to allow that sort of English makes Rovers look like complete numpties.

So we set trainees on that can’t string sentences together?

Understandable to get them trained, but as a teacher I wouldn't allow that to go public without checking content and telling them where they went wrong. It shows a real lack of responsibility by the staff there.

What chance have football clubs got when many journalists in national newspapers can't get punctuation and grammar correct.
