Santa was dressed in brown when I was a kid. It only became red after a Coca Cola promotion.

That's a myth. He was depicted as wearing red as far back as the mid 1800's. Although Coca cola did depict him as the fat jolly man with a white beard we know today

Partly true. Although red had been used before, the Coca Cola campaign helped reinforce that image, and now its very rare to see him dressed in anything else.

I'm a good bit older than you Martin and he was always in red when I was a kid.

Did you know the wars of the roses wasn't between Yorkshire and Lancashire ?

I remember quite distinctly doing some work at Junior school around a Christmas theme. We were set the task of decorating the classroom etc and the colours we used for 'Santa' were all a dark brown. That image has stayed with me ever since.
I had to smile with the 'good bit older' remark though! Are you sure? :-)

Either that or you never had a paper round ;0)

The real St Nicholas of Marmaris is always depicted in Orthodox Icons as wearing red.
