Can't believe it's TEN years. What a day it was. Still think 1-0 was very kind on Leeds and I know a few Leeds fans who actually think the same
-
Never been so confident that we’d win such a big game. We were a really good side at that time, and we were better than them. Interesting to see the comments from Wellens that our players looked at theirs, and we knew it.

...... and from a half fit Richie too

That volley (Prutton was it?) in the last few minutes still makes my sphincter clench when I think of it. What a day though.
-
I still maintain it would have been a different outcome if Beckford had played.
-
He did play, Matt Mills was “ marking him “

One of the L**ds players said that they know they are better players than Rovers and were confident of victory. There's nowt wrong with having confidence of course, but it does help if it's based on truth! They went into that game with false confidence and it showed throughout the game.
It's great looking back to the occasion and the great team we had, but at the same time it's heartbreaking comparing us now.

Think that's the worst I've ever seen Beckford play, although he never seems to do much against us.
-
To be fair to Leeds they did have a 15 point deduction that season and still got in the playoffs, without that they would have comfortably gone up automatically.
Which makes it even sweeter that we beat them :)

They were better than us over the season. Without the 15 points deduction they would have gone up automatically. Therefore they were better than us over the season.
But we were better when it mattered at Wembley!

I'm never sure about that but I guess its a decent debate either way. They started the season on fire - was that due to the persecution complex Ken Bates developed over the points deduction? Had they started on zero points would they have had the same motivation. Also, ourselves and Carlisle wobbled at the end to allow Forest to go up. Had Leeds been in second would they have done the same and someone else go up automatically?
(Thats what I'd say to Leeds fan anyway ;) )

Get out of it! He wasn’t playing! I never noticed him touch the ball.

That’s because Mills had very deep pockets that he kept him in

Big credit to Sam Hird that day too, he’d not been in the tram long since Lockwood’s injury and kept Freedman nicely in his pocket.
Time plays tricks on the mind but barring that shit towards the end that whistled past the lost it was as comfortable a 1-0 as you could get.

Must've shat it out with some force... hopefully not while in the tram?

Haha, genuinely hadn’t noticed that typo.

If you watch the final again Matt Mills smashes into Beckford early on ,he didn’t fancy it after that

No, being fair to Leeds is starting with the fact that they cheated and then continuing with "they were docked 15 points..."
:)
