Interesting.

Ooooooo all excited obviously we know 2 of them. Wonder who the 3rd one is, perm or loan.
I want to get excited about the grant possibility but surely not..... surely

Third possible signing is a 'dynamic midfield player, gets about the pitch, breaks things up' #drfc
Money's on Grant.
-
Third signing is a dynamic midfielder who breaks up play.
From wiki -
Grant is a central midfielder who specializes in breaking up opposition play, and is also adept at receiving the ball from defenders and supplying the ball to more attack-minded players.[93] He has been described as 'combative', and regularly picks up bookings.[94]
-
Please explain cheers.
-
Sounds good to me. We know that's the type of player we need to have a complete midfield.

We have all mentioned it at some point, just goes to prove they know but don't shout everything from the rafters for obvious reasons.
-
Them 3, a goalscorer who can also play wide but fill in for Marquis and a young defender for the development squad who adds depth for Butler, Wright and Anderson and that'll be it IMO.

Loan window open next so may get your wish for at least one of them who knows

If it is Grant the posh fans seem disappointed he is leaving.

Won’t be Grant.
Would cost too much.

What? He's picked up 94 bookings?

A couple of people on Twitter reckon it's Liverpool U21 midfielder Herbie Kane.
-
Bloody rubbish Rovers, why aren't we in for Harry?

Tezza Bramall out!

I think it's more likely to be Kane more than Grant as the latter will surely cost money and we usually don't pay a fee

The long-awaited return of Simon Gillett?

Mark Wilson

I've heard it's one for the future, Teddy Sheringham.

Just what we need, a 19 year old kid that’s never kicked a ball in anger to come and sit on the bench.
-
If it is Herbie Kane would he have squad number 53?
-
Omg what's taking so long. Baldwins fault.

Liverpool under 21 I would imagine he is decent but it's not confirmed yet
-
If it is Kane it would be a good signing.
He's very highly rated but we still need another striker in my humble opinion.

He's been captain of Liverpool's U21 side which might count for nothing. Houghton proved invaluable when we signed him on loan two years ago, Kane could do the same. We won't know until we see him, if it is him.

Kongolo was captain of Netherlands u20.

Kongolo was captain of Netherlands I20.
Exactly.
-
So did Kongolo, before we get too carried away.

A decent manager will probably get the best out of Kongolo.
-
Well yes, exactly my point. He might turn out to be very good, he might turn out to be shite.
Age and experience over young talents don't always mean better quality. James Harper was very experienced and he was laughable when he came and played here.
-
Not again, mpc, I've had enough of the bickering!
Decent manager or not, the player himself was simply not ready for L1. End of.
I hope it's Grant and then get the young lad on loan after the window shuts.
-
I'd say we've had a mixed bag of loans from "big clubs" so I'd say I'm open minded but not blown away should it turn out to be this lad. The real hot prospects go abroad or even to a lower premiership club. For Sam Johnstone and Matt Mills there's a Reece Brown and Harry Worley!
-
Michael Timlin.
-
Michael Timlin.
Did score against Rotherham though? ;)
Although when I saw your post I thought you were going to chime in with the inspiration for your username but then I was meaning the real top club bracket - the current top 6 as such!
-
Well, Taylor's confirmed. He'll be playing for free though, of course.

Not entirely fair on Harper. He looked quality - until he reached the number of appearances required to trigger a clause in his contract (was it an extension or a bonus, I forget). Then he just switched off completely and became a farce.

Sorry Alan if it came across like that, people mentioned him so I put in what I thought. He must 've half decent with the fee he went for and apparently that makes all the difference.
Just because one player didn't play very well doesn't mean the next one is poop.
Can't wait for Saturday and confirmation of who this 3rd one is.
-
Lost the pen?

This seems to be being dragged out would guess the squad has already set off if not already arrived in Southend.
I would assume the ex Leeds lad may have traveled with the rest of the team but maybe not as he is not signed so won’t be covered by our insurance

I can't remember any good games he had for us, and whether before or after the extension he had a period of truly awful performances. My point was that sometimes younger players prove to be better than experienced ones and this may be one of those times.

Herbie Kane on loan from Liverpool.

why are some knocking this lad before he has kicked a ball for us , its pathetic.

I'd never heard of keiron Brady, Dylan Kerr and Danny Williamson but they were immense back in the day.
And we had an even shitter budget back then.
-
I have to say I knew of kieran Brady before he arrived with us. 90 minutes magazine (remember that?) had done a profile on him a coupla years previous regarding him being the next big thing. I also recall him coming off of the bench for Sunderland in the latter stages of their run to the 1992 FA cup final (not sure what game possibly against Chelsea in 5th or 6th round) and going close to scoring a blinder! I was really excited when we managed to get him on loan
-
Might be wrong but I only count two signings

He was one of the finest players to have pulled on a rovers shirt in my opinion.

Grant has signed for Shrewsbury then, so that puts an end to that one.

Three were planned for today. The other one was Vieira (or however you spell it), looks like it hasn't quite got over the line yet.
-
be announced tomorrow i bet his was probably last in terms of priority to get over the line

My first ever Rovers game was his debut. I only came to see Mike Jeffrey play but Kieron Brady was star of show. Looking back I see that Brady only ever played four games for us - scored three times though including winner away at SKitsons.
-
Both look good signings on paper... hope we can still make 1 more quality addition up front and bring in 1 to provide some cover at the back

don't take things for granted
here's another one good player

Nudga I have to agree. Kerr was a superb player & Williamson & Brady too. Though the latter had such a brief stay with Rovers, sadly.

Rovers legend for that alone imo.

That was the goal from just inside scunny half to the left if memory serves?

So, did the third signing fall through?
-
Was meant to be Viera, now his brother has moved abroad he is considering not staying in England

Of the loans we have had from big clubs very few have become a decent player for Rovers, the only massive exception being Matt Mills. The problem with loanees from big clubs is the demand they must get game time despite their inadequacies, Worley was an embarrassment every time he appeared on the field, but he constantly came on as a sub, whether we wanted him or not. I presume this will be the case with the current crop, it could well break up winning positions, or deny a chance to fight back. We cannot go on taking cast offs who are looking to put themselves in a shop window to go to a "bigger" club. Johnstone was a prime example of this.
I hope that Taylor makes the most of his last chance, but beware, alcoholics have a track record of letting people down, it is a difficult drug to beat, we are taking risks with every signing we have made, not necessarily strengthening a squad.
-
But we loaned Billy Sharp from a massive club... :silly:
-
True, a second exception. We ended up paying a LOT of money to get both permanently though. That will never happen again.
-
Sharp was a big let down the last time he was here though.
