I always say the next game is the most important, regardless of the opposition.
However for a whole variety of reasons, many not related to the football, I am looking forward to this fixture..
I’ve been around long enough not to raise expectations and this could be a drab 0-0, but I’m hoping for a great atmosphere and some decent entertainment..!
-
When was the last time we won in front of a bumper crowd at home?
We always seem to freeze or is that my shite memory. :scarf: :scarf:
-
Today’s line up:
Marosi
Mason
Butler
Wright
Andrew
Whiteman
Kane
Blair
Wilks
Marquis
Coppinger
Subs:
Lawlor
Crawford
T Anderson
Taylor
May
J Anderson
Amos
-
Glad to see Kane fit and a return for Wright after Anderson’s horror show at the weekend.
-
I thought that would be the line up, some mind games from McCann there re Kane.
-
Can Copps get Cattermole sent off by running a few rings around him. I would think McCann would want to stifle him and stop them ticking.
Our full backs will have to be on top form tonight mind.
-
Impressed with the Sunderland Chairman being in the middle of the Northstand, seems a very popular bloke.
-
Come on you Reds... :scarf:
-
Shrews beating Barnsley...
-
Luton beating Accrington
-
How's it started?
-
From twitter, and BBC stats it's looking good so far for us. Just need a bit of good fortune. Wish I was there for this.
-
Cattermole getting a yellow so early on is a positive.
-
We are well in this and they are rattled.. two yellow cards already for cynical midfield fouls.
-
Cattermole took 7 minutes to go through one of our lads. Booked on 15 mins for a foul on Wilks. Both central midfielders for them booked. Get at ‘em. Rovers doing very well.
-
Sinclair wearing slippers. Goes down like a cheap tart.
-
This game won’t end with 22 players..
-
if Accrington win they could go 2nd tonight
-
Good afternoon everyone, seems like we are more than holding our own against Sunderland. Yes they are a big club, but in the same league as us, we can beat them.
-
Spicy game. Love it.
-
Wilks receives a yellow card for an off-the-ball incident with Chris Maguire. Ben Whiteman also sees yellow for an earlier foul on Cattermole.
-
Honeyman shown a yellow now. That's 3 for sunderland.
-
I think Wilks was stepped on and gave some back.
-
In case you missed it :ermm:
-
Battle of the managers nouse coming up with the half time break.
-
Wilks pulled back when through on goal. Not obviously but he was impeded. Nothing given.
-
Blairy with a golden chance... just needed to lift it over the advancing keeper. Half time. Rovers better team there without a doubt. Set up perfectly slept a cracking second half. Great game.
-
How the f**k did Blair not score then? Credit to their ‘keeper for coming out so quick to block the one on one.. Wilks should have done better in a similar position a minute earlier, mind you, I thought he was being fouled - but on a yellow he can’t risk going down too easy..
We are well in this.. Sunderland have quality of course and we will need to stay at them..
-
They have n’t out footballed us so have resorted to out kicking us halpe by a set of officials with big club syndrome!
-
I was a bit worried in the first 5 mins.. but then we got into the game and have been great since, apart from not scoring..
Marquis scuffed one too, from a Wright knock down..
-
Wilks pulled back when through on goal. Not obviously but he was impeded. Nothing given.
glad I wasn’t alone thinking that..
-
Some big club syndrome from the ref. Entertaining game which could go either way and could end up with one team down to 10 men but they seem the dirtier.
-
Disappointing crowd tonight.
-
Disappointing crowd tonight.
Eh? Really?
-
Outstanding first half by our lads.
Every player giving his all.
-
Young Wright has been immense..
-
0-1.. stemmed from an unlucky slip by Andrew..
-
b*llocks
-
Kitsons
-
Yeah but... we are still due at least 3 goals tonight :boxing: :boxing: :boxing:
-
Andrew slipped, Gooch nicked the ball and hit a beauty off the inside of the post, the rebound was knocked back across goal and turned in..
Really unlucky..
-
Come on Rovers. We absolutely deserve at least a point from this.
-
Filthy.
-
James booked for taking out Wilks. Marquis is booked for backchat.
-
Blair’s miss looking really costly, but we are still in this..
-
f**king Cattermole.
-
Looked like a foot raised which the ref bottlled booking him for..
-
It was a yellow all day. Ref neshed it.
-
Niall Mason goes into the book for a foul on Maguire
This one not going to finish with 11 a side .
-
Link to goal....... I hope

Niall Mason goes into the book for a foul on Maguire
Mason suspended for the Cov match.
-
Cattermole withdrawn before he’s sent off. We’re totally dominant.
-

Mason suspended for the Cov match.
And a dubious yellow given what’s gone on in this game.
-
It’s a measure of how well we’re playing that 4000 Sunderland fans are absolutely quiet.
-
It’s a measure of how well we’re playing that 4000 Sunderland fans are absolutely quiet.
And who their man of the match will be.
-
Ref bottles another yellow for one of their already booked players..
-
Gooch is a far far better player now then when he was here..
-
A bit worrying that, once again, were dominating the shot count ,( more than double Sunderland's at the moment), but nothing to show for it :(
-
Gooch is a far far better player now then when he was here..
Yup, I agree.
-
Anderson on for Blair
-
Shit 0-2
-
No it isn’t..
-
No. 0-1
-
Posted too quickly...
-
Story of our season so far, get bagloads of chances, but little or no goals to show for it.

What happened?
-
ROVERS SUB | Alfie May comes on for James Coppinger
-
Can I bet on Taylor coming on for Wilks in 3 mins?
-
They put it in the goal form a rebound from
a Marosi save, but it was offside..
-

To be fair their goal had a huge slice of luck about it. Such is the game. Sunderland have defended very well though.
-
Ffs Rovers, f**king useless

Meaning?

Somebody obviously not watching the game.

ROVERS SUB | Paul Taylor will replace Mallik Wilks

Somebody obviously not watching the game.
Me or WheatleyRover? 😀
-
Referee an utter bell end.

Referee still an utter bell end.

Butler also goes into the book for a foul on Sinclair, that means him and Mason will miss Saturday's game against Coventry.
-
Well, you look at some of the fouls that were deemed yellow cards - I.e. of equal severity, and there is no consistency from refs. He let much worse stuff go than he gave yellows for.
-

FCOL!
(For crying out loud!)
-
All over.
-
Of the people criticising the ref, how many have been glad that Rovers have been a bit more streetwise and savvy this season? Don’t think that Sunderland have done anything other than that really.
We’ve never really got going second half, the goal right at the start killed us.
-
Finished 0-1.. didn’t deserve to lose that performance wise just needed to be a bit sharper in front of goal..
We will play much worse than that and win.
-
Two late bookings for Wright and Butler also..... Sounded like a good display though.
-
Disappointing crowd tonight.
Eh? Really?
Loads of empty seats and atmosphere was gash.
-
They put it in the goal form a rebound from
a Marosi save, but it was offside..
And the ball was out of play in the build up, but the star struck officials just ignored it

Nick, there were a few shockers in that game that should have been carded but the player had already been booked and the ref bottled it. At least two of their lads. And then he books our lads for fairly innocuous offences.

Very true, we said as much at the match.
Some of the Sunderland tackles in the first half bordered on being dangerous.
At least two were two footed and off the ground.

man of the match poll now up: https://www.drfc-vsc.co.uk/index.php?topic=267704
