OK, seeing as it's my idea I'll start with the obvious, Only Fools and Horses.

-
Morcambe and Wise - the Andre Preview sketch is probably the best ever..
Monty Pythons Flying Circus - Parrot sketch
The Young Ones
Black Adder
The Goodies
-
For me number one is The Office. I could (and do) watch it over and over, still find it funny and still notice something new. Agree with the OP that Fawlty Towers and Only Fools are also brilliant. Rounding out the top 5 is probably go with Peep Show and I’m Alan Partridge/Mid Morning Matters. To me very underrated.
Probably an unpopular/unfashionable choice but I’m also a big fan of Friends & the American version of The Office.
Can’t stand Benidorm, Mrs Browns Boys and The Big Bang Theory but perhaps that’s one for another thread...
-
Phoenix Nights
The Young Ones
Benidorm series 1-3
Only Fools and Horses
Fawlty Towers
-
Only fools

Inside No 9 is a great call. It's utter quality. Can't believe I forgot to include that!
That episode where it started at the end and kept going back 10 minutes was just brilliant.
-
Hancocks Half Hour for those who remember !
-
The Simpsons will always be number one to me. It's shite now but through the 90s and early 00s it was the best ever by a long shot.
-
Bugger, forgot Rising Damp.
-
Hancocks Half Hour
Rising Damp
Bottom
House Of Fools
The Fast Show
Vic Reeve's Big Night Out
Dads Army
-

That episode where it started at the end and kept going back 10 minutes was just brilliant.
Inside Number 9 is great but I’m not sure I’d even call it a comedy.
-
League of Gentlemen
The Thick of It
Bottom
Young Ones
Green Wing
Vic and Bob's Big Night Out
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin
Love Thy Neighbour
I was thinking about lauding "Love Thy Neighbour" Billy, but I thought I might get slaughtered on here because of the blatant racism in it, which of course was acceptable at that time.
-
Most I would choose already mentioned but I would add Teachers and Inbetweeners
-
If we're including comedy sketches, then I'll add Fork 'andles alongside Andre Preview. Absolute belters.
-
Not Going Out.
-
Not Going Out.
That's my favourite current one, and I forgot it!
-
The office is genius, my favourite.
Then I’m Alan Partridge.
Then probably Not Going Out
-
Forgot to mention Alf Garnet too!
-
Not a TV Comedy but my favourite film comedy is the The Producers with Zero Mostel and GeneWilder.
-
Spike Milligan's Q series , and MASH
-
Forgot to mention Alf Garnet too!
Yes Herbert, "Till Death Us Do Part"; pure genius, but again, one that wouldn't be acceptable nowadays because of the racism and misogyny.
-
Fawlty Towers
All Blackadder, but especially series 2 and 4.
Phoenix Nights
Dad's Army
Porridge
-
cannot believe nobody said Steptoe and son must be my age
2 in sickness and in health
3 porridge
4 phoenix nights
5 dads army
6 faulty towers

-
I know it's only recent but Car Share deserves a mention
-
I don't know what the show was called but Peter Cook & Dudley Moore doing the Greta Garbo and One leg too few sketches is bloody hilarious.
-
Red dwarf x5
I don't really do TV comedies!
-
Thin Blue Line.
-
I don't know what the show was called but Peter Cook & Dudley Moore doing the Greta Garbo and One leg too few sketches is bloody hilarious.

So difficult to choose, so I think it best to remember those programmes I really looked forward to and felt I couldn’t miss:
Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads;
Only Fools & Horses;
The Vicar of Dibley;
Steptoe & Son;
The Royle Family
-
Difficult, but
Only Fools and Horses
Monty Python
Vicar of Dibley
Porridge
Rising Damp
Others which grow on you as the characters develop
Gavin and Stacey
The Detectorists
Man Down.
-
I always enjoyed The Detectives, with Jasper Carrott and Robert Powell.
-
Agree about Detectorists. Like Early Doors it was something that worked due to great characterisations.
-
Updated:
Changing Ends.
Brilliant!

‘Cradle to Grave’ is brilliant too - from Danny Baker’s autobiography.
-
House of Fools

It ain’t half hot mum, and Dads Army, both had my uncle in stitches even though he didn’t speak English!
-
Car Share.
-
Just started watching fat friends very funny
-
I always enjoyed The Detectives, with Jasper Carrott and Robert Powell.
I used to love detectives i need to re watch it.
I keep seeing on my reels where if they buy 3 cans of lager they get one free
Also cant say crew alex without being reminded of the football quiz episode
-
Blackadder 2, then 3, then 4, then the first series.
Any other order is just plain wrong.
The first series of Vic Reeves' Big Night Out.
I'm Alan Partridge.
Harry Enfield and Chums.

Maybe then, but Bob Mortimer has matured into a funnier performer since then.

-
Early Doors and Rovers - classic Craig Cash.
Some decent US comedies more recently - Parks & Rec, Community, Brooklyn 99, US Office etc.
Winner for me is a Sean Lock hidden gem - Fifteen Stories High.
-
Usual suspects for me with Blackadder the standout. Lines are often quoted in conversation which is truly the sign of a great comedy. Truly memorable lines that still make you snigger 40 years layer. Same is true for Dads Army, Fawlty Towers, Python Bottom, The Thick of It.
Ive not seen it mentioned on here but I'd recommend Curb Your Enthusiasm to those who haven't seen it. Larry David is a genius.
-
PMQs on Wednesdays. Now that is absolutely hilarious.
-
1. Father Ted - sublime
2. Blackadder - I include series 1 in this, it has some brilliant moments
3. Only Fools - David Jason is brilliant, it's the nations favourite for good reason. Personally I didn't enjoy the last few series so much which drops it a bit for me
4. Porridge - Ronnie Barkers finest
5. The Detectorists - it's just such a well observed British comedy. It's very funny but a joy to behold in the drama. Lovely. And a fantastic soundtrack.
-
Phoenix nights
Max & paddy
Royle family
Only fools….
Auf wiedersein pet anyone?
-
Dinnerladies
-
Only fools
Dad's army
Allo allo
Father ted
Vicar of dibley
Fawlty towers
Benidorm

-
In no particular order: One foot in the grave, Dad's Army, Only Fools, Detectorists, Hi de hi.
-
Hancock was the master of comedy both visual sketches such as the Blood Doner, and recordings such as the Test Pilot, almost impossible not to laugh.
Just as funny was the comedy shows on the radio such as the Navy lark, and Just our Ken which were full of innuendoes and suggestive fun, comedy of a different type and the time but made you laugh.
Also loved many of the shows already mentioned and have always thought that British comedy was just that bit more raw and sophisticated than the American shows Steptoe and Son being a case in point.
-
I used to listen to Round the Horn every Sunday as a young un. Brilliant surreal off the wall stuff.
It’s available on Sounds.
Since I last posted on this thread in 2018 I’ve changed my top 3 to
Early Doors.it’s so good I’ve watched it several times over. Still on iplayer
Detectorists. Perfect gentle comedy with great acting and characters.
Inside No 9. Bizzare and thought provoking. Some of the episodes were absolute classic TV
