Is anyone else fed up with this twice-a-year malarkey? I reckon we should decide to either stay on GMT or BST all year round. I don't really care which, but let's stop changing the clocks twice a year.

I agree TRB
However I do think how far north you are affects things like getting children to school in the dark more, e.g. Nortern Scotland. Mind you just changing school to start a bit later might help, as long as it can finish before dark.
Not sure the idea of BST all year round would go down well with some on here though. :chair:

Anyone against BST is stupid and hasn't got a clue of the consequences of it! :chair:

I seem to think that you have similar views like me for the UK to remain united . one of the prices we pay is this arrangement which allows some parts of the Northern UK to make the most of the 2/3 hours daylight they get in mi winter.

I appreciate that BST in winter wouldn't be great if you were in the Scottish highlands which is why I'd be ok with staying on GMT all year round. Then again, I'm very much a morning person.

I propose a referendum.

I propose a referendum.
Best of three?

I propose a referendum.
It would be a decent subject for a referendum, but after the last one I'm not sure that would be a good idea.

We did have a couple of years when we didn't alter the clocks, 1969 & 70 I think.
That is when the myth of the Scottish schoolchildren being mown down appeared and regularly gets recycled.
-
Swap it half an hour forward or back once and have it done with!
-
Let em have independance then we can do what we like re dark mornings.

And it is a myth. I went to school in Scotland. Walked their and home in the dark (And rain or snow) every day.
I don't really care though and don't know why people do?

It's a political thing.
The SNP desperately want two things:
1) For the Scots to think that they are being victimised by the English.
2) For the English to think they are being held back by the Scots.
1 makes it more likely that the Scots will support separation.
2 makes it more likely that the English will support anti-Scottish policies which will feed 1.
The issue of kids walking to school in the dark is bullshit. If the clocks changed permanently, yes, more Scottish kids would walk TO school in the dark, but fewer would walk back home FROM school in the dark.
If the clocks were put forward permanently, the SNP would make hay with the issue. So we all get disadvantaged as a result.
Because the SNP have one drive and one drive only. Anything that is required to make the Scots more supportive of independence. And STILL some naive folk on the Left think that Labour should have some cuddly agreement with these zealots.

.... and those saying we should respect the Referendum down here should also notice that the Scottish people having voted by a "massive" Majority in a once in a lifetime Referndum to remain part of the Union are already subject to / under pressure from thise wanting Independence - by presumably having another Referendum
Its was Deocracy you lost get over it ! (Yeah right)

Seem to remember we all got issued with reflective arm bands when they didn’t alter the clocks

How many kids walk to school these days? It's parking mayhem at the 2 schools in our village. We even have a traffic cop camera vehicle patrolling morning and evening.
-
Kids are driven to school these days because their parents are worried they might get run over in the school run traffic chaos!
